The world is changing and so are international trades in goods and services, their financing as well as their traditional forms of ensuring and guaranteeing. The second edition of this dictionary takes account of this ongoing development.
Twenty years ago, export credit insurance was, nearly exclusively, a matter of state support to the exporting industry: preferential financing facilities offered through state banks and public export credit insurance through governmental or state-near export credit agencies (ECAs). The terminology was dependent on the national legal and commercial systems of these institutions. Ten years ago, it became obvious that export credit insurance was no longer an exclusive matter of ECAs when all major private credit insurers began to offer cover for commercial risks. Today, we are at the edge of covering even political risks on the account of private credit insurance companies and their reinsurers.
These economic developments left their traces in the terminology of export financing and credit insurance and will continue to do so in the future. This dictionary may be useful to practitioners, exporters, bankers and credit insurance companies in particular, as well as to specialised translators, scholars and scientists.

This book examines the legal duties of directors of public companies in the light of the stakeholder approach to the firm. It considers the theory that directors are not simply agents of corporate shareholders, but have a duty to take into consideration and, where appropriate, to balance the interests of several constituencies, each of which has a legitimate `stake' in the company, its activities and development. Examples of suggested stakeholders in corporate activity have included employees, customers, suppliers and creditors, as well as the local community and the environment. If this broad view of public company board responsibility is warranted, the role of the law in securing a `stakeholder' style of management needs to be examined, and this study attempts that task.
To this end empirical research was conducted via interviews with public company directors and secretaries from a range of public companies of different sizes operating in many business sectors to investigate: a)
The extent to which at present they view their role as requiring assessment and inclusion of the interests of stakeholders b)
The manner in which such assessment and inclusion is actually carried out c)
The impact which a statutory formulation of duties to incorporate stakeholder interests would or might have on decision making in practice d)
The effect of board structure on corporate decision making e)
The effects of `stakeholder orientation' of company directors on the economic performance and social impact of UK public companies will be assessed.
The DTI's Company Law Review Steering Group has referred to the distinction between `Enlightened Shareholder Value' which views the `ultimate objective of companies' as being `to generate maximum value for shareholders' and the `pluralist' approach (essentially stakeholding arguments by another name) which sets shareholders as one constituency among many others. This book further reviews the arguments and seeks to set them in commercial context.
This book is essentially the first to relate the `stakeholding' arguments and `Third Way' politics as popularised by commentators such as Will Hutton and Anthony Giddens to the prospects for reform of company law in an authoritative but accessible format. It is ideal text for company law, business and politics students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, and will also provide companies (especially Plc's) increasingly concerned with important issues of accountability and regulation, with a straightforward and welcome guide to this often complex area.

Built-In, North American Style........2004-03-28
This book does have enough pictures of built in cabinets/furniture from every room in the house to give you an idea of what can be done, but I found that other books I have read, such as Kitchen Design books, have way more information on certain topics than this book is able to cover. There is also some instructions on how to make some of the cabinets yourself. The style is all North American which is ok, but you should also read some books on how the Japanese design built in furniture, such as, Small Spaces: Stylish Ideas for Making More of Less in the Home, by Azby Brown.

Apparently the hardcover edition reviewer bought a bad copy - this is an excellent book with crisp, bright photos and excellent ideas for expanding any room. But don't stop here...let this serve as a base and let your imagination really take off. I've used ideas from this book to make projects that turned out much better!

Built-In Furniture is a great book for everyone who's ever dreamed of having a secret door to a hidden room or just wants to utilize seamingly wasted space. This book of ideas has been a great launching pad for my own new home design. It's NOT a project book with plans and instructions but if you're in the "looking for ideas" phase this is a good picture book.

Byrne's election in 1979 as the city's first woman mayor and Harold Washington's 1983 triumph as Chicago's first African American mayor. He writes of Kenny Washington's importance in breaking professional football's color barrier and Steve Prefontaine's courage in taking on the little gray men of the sports establishment. Neal chronicles Paul Robeson's struggles: "His name became a great whisper. . . . The injustices against Paul Robeson have not been righted."
Nobel laureate Saul Bellow tells Neal that comedy is the bright hope of American fiction because it is too difficult for writers in this country to grasp the worst of the human condition. Neal tells why Frank Sinatra called Chicago his kind of town and also shows how the city inspires the poetry of Gwendolyn Brooks.
Neal, a former White House correspondent, shares his perspective as one of the few reporters to have interviewed Ronald Reagan in four different decades. He recalls spending an evening with Richard M. Nixon, defends Harry Truman's most controversial decision, and writes from Ireland of John F. Kennedy's enduring legacy in the nation of his ancestors. Neal portrays William Jefferson Clinton as the "world's oldest teenager."
With vivid imagery, Neal makes his subjects come alive. Mayor Richard M. Daley is likened to Forrest Gump, and the legendary boxing announcer Ben Bentley is hailed as the last of the Damon Runyon characters.

This volume, the first collection of Steve Neal's columns, is a virtual feast for all those interested in the major players in American politics and government from l950 to the present. Steve Neal is a competent historian as well as a perceptive columnist, so his writing reflects both scholarly research as well as realistic insights. His columns catch the essence of his subjects and reading them is pure delight. Of course his point of view may conflict with yours; he doesn't hide his feelings; but that too is half the fun. In a hundred years this will be one of the volumes consulted to find out what our politicians were really like. Fortunately, we don't need to wait. Just order this book now.
