good for beginners.......2007-01-26

First 53 pages are a workbook of instructions for the beginning knitter. All the yarns are from Cascade. Patterns are well done with schematics for each. My favorite is the aran pullover. The tied sweater or kimono is also nice. Several baby blankets are also included and a few toys. Print and binding are fine and babies are very cute. If you're an advanced knitter, you probably can find better patterns elsewhere but I give it 4 stars because it accomplishes what it set out to do and it's my mistake that I bought it.

I Kept My Knitting Needles!.......2006-09-26

I ordered Elanor Lynn's delightful knitting book as a gift for a friend who is a new Grandma. While wrapping it I read the whole book cover to cover during a summer I was busy downsizing my home and moving into a small apartment. The delicious photos of healthy, happy infants and toddlers, the inviting styles combined with the instructions in the friend to friend voice of Elanor reminded me of the fun I used to have knitting. I moved my needles from the "give-away" pile and started a swing coat and hat for a baby a neighbor is expecting. I am so grateful to Elanor for writing this book so that I and others can benefit from her knowledge and creativity. Knitting is such a peaceful activity I tuck in my bag and take with me during the many unexpected moments of waiting. She says knitting can change the world, it certainly change my perception of it!

Adorable projects, easy directions, great book.......2006-03-23

I've already made 3 projects from this book and have to say that it's fantastic. The directions are very clear (and are written so you can knit by measuring and NOT counting every row), which is incredibly convenient. The projects are adorable, without being cheesy or ridiculous as some baby projects can be. There's an extensive section in the beginning for beginners which is still a valuable resource for the intermediate knitter.

A Foggy and Romanticized Rendition.......2001-12-06

This book reminded of me a child telling a story about the excitement and fun of a carnival, and while I might appreciate the child's viewpoint and comprehension of the carnival, I had the adult's perception of knowing better and wanting more. This is a very incomplete and undocumented tale, like a child's leftover cotton candy -- a bad-tasting remnant from a trip to the carnival and a reminder of the flashing lights, the excitement, and a ride on the ferris wheel. And like a child, the author told her story without a mature understanding of what a carnival really is -- a lot of flashing bright lights, games and rides, crowds, noise, dirt, and smoke and mirrors. This book is at best, a foggy and romanticized rendition of historically important events. I truly believe that posterity will demand a clearer picture and better documentation of the claims made by the author.

I purchased "Texas in the Morning" directly from Madeleine Brown at her home in Dallas. She was kind enough to invite myself and the Senior Class of 2000 from Roberts High School in Roberts, Montana to her home for lunch. Madeleine was a very gracious host, seemly honest and forthright. I read her book thoroughly on the airplane on the return trip home. It was intriguing and very interesting. I question her having so much patience, but not her commitment to both this relationship and her book. An excellent book for a person with an open mind!

Worth the price for the information contained inside........1999-10-07

The author is no word beater when it comes to writing skills, but she obviously knew President Lyndon Johnson very well. No one reading this book could not take her seriously. Madeleine Duncan Brown was part of history. She was indeed a secret lover of LBJ. In fact, she bore and raised his only son. The most interesting passage in the book takes place on Thursday night in Dallas, Texas, November 21, 1963, at the home of Clint Murchison. Read the book for the details of that night as Johnson whispers in the author's ear, "After tomorrow those goddamn Kennedys will never emparrass me again--that's no threat--that's a promise." A must read for JFK assassination researchers.

This new addition to project management literature is a unique and valuable contribution to the field.
The Forward, by a systems control engineer and CEO, sets the stage for what one can expect in the text. The author's Preface further enhances interest by way of a vivid descriptive overview of projects throughout history that illustrate how crucial planning and management is to any venture's success - or failure. Of particular interest is the caveat that project management has to be viewed in a global context as technological advances will have an ever increasing impact on a corporation's ability to maintain a competitive edge. What makes this book a stand-out in a field which appears to have an over-abundance of contributors? Primarily, it is due to the author's creative formulation of a well constructed philosophy of "bottom-line success(PBLS)." This philosophy sets forth principles by which the project achieves a bottom-line impact, i.e., a net profit. Note that the "P" can interchangeably mean philosophy, principles or project. To alliterate further: PROFIT!
In essence, bottom-line success encompasses all of these.

PBLS stresses the importance of detailed attention to the beginning stages of a project accompanied by a keen eye to the long term aspects such as potential problems and risks, contingencies and corrective action components, all of which can impact costs. This construct rests on basic fundamentals, or precepts, namely, clearly defined objectives, recognition of risks, teamwork, pre-project planning and a detailed definition of scope. Obviously this is a dessert cookbook, however, I found most of the reciepes to be too time consuming for my needs. During the holidays, few people want to spend an hour or two slaving away on Pavlovas or even hot cocoa. Though I haven't made any of these myself (because I just don't want to make the time) I'm sure that they taste really good. Too much work, not enough reward.

I'm still giving it 3 stars for it's photography and it's ability to tie the food in with the Nutcracker ballet, which was the point of the book after all.

Outstanding! No real trader should be without this book........1999-09-06

Krieger has managed to pack into this book (he calls it a "guidebook" and I see why) everything from incredibly accurate day trading reversal techniques (using heretofore unexamined uses of WD Gann's genius), to detailed analysis of the amazing Keltner Channel, in which the price bars predictably move day after week after month (a true leading indicator). And this is just a tiny portion of the very practical and profitable technical analysis techniques thoroughly discussed throughout the book. It also goes into the most fascinating discussion of the natural forces which underlie the markets and how you can use them. It also details excellent money management and risk management methods, and has the most comprehensive overview of the entire business I have read. And it really does show how to trade as a business and not a gamble, which is of critical importance to our consistent success as traders. An entire chapter details how to best deal with news and government reports. The list goes on and on. It is, in a word, Practical. Although I think you have to be an actual trader to really appreciate just how good and useful this book is, it does start from a beginner's perspective. This book gets my highest recommendation. A brilliant work!

This book only covers the very basic information needed. And all of the info he gives you in this book is free on the internet. He hypes excellent results from his system but that is another purchase, a very expensive software purchase. This book is a glorified sales pitch for Mr. Kriegers analysis tools. It falls way short of being a how to guide. While his writing is good and the information is helpful, it stops at the most critical point...How To! The book should be priced at $19.95 based on the infomation provided and that they hope to make money on the other end as well. The information can be found elsewhere and you won't feel fleeced when your done.

The best, most practical, profitable guide I have ever read........1999-01-06

Why do I recommend this book so highly? My ever-growing trading account has something to do with it! This is no joke folks. The detailed knowledge presented in the pages of Scott's book has ultimately translated into significant trading profits for me, often on a daily basis. And I have definitely "paid my dues" as a trader so I know what I am talking about. I had been trying to trade successfully (both daytrading and position trading) for almost three years, and during that time I acquired a library of about 45 trading books. I learned a bit here and there, but ultimately they didn't help make me any money at all (and often to the contrary, I lost a great deal trying to follow their poor directions in the rough, no nonsense, real world of trading). It got to a point where I thought I could never succeed at the "dream" of being an independent trader at home.

Well, I can happily tell you that UNLIKE any of those other books, Scott's is overflowing with the real, practical "How To's" of trading (from A to Z, just like it says), and it actually shows you how to make serious money at this. It turned my trading around 180 degrees to the plus side! Finally! To be a successful trader you really do need knowledge (just like Scott says) and this book has it in spades. It is also extremely easy reading, even when it gets very technical. It's amazing how it actually turns you into a successful chart analyst without your even realizing it.

Bottom line is it works! But don't just take my word for it. Check out all the other trader and professional reviews of the book at Amazon and at the book's own web site, and then just get it! Sorry this review was so long people, but I am very excited about all this, and if I can help you to shortcut all the useless time, frustration and loss of money that I went through then it is all worth it, right? The reign of Emperor Yongle, or "Perpetual Happiness"--which began with civil war and a bloody coup, and saw the construction of the Forbidden City, completion of the Grand Canal, and consolidation of the imperial bureaucracy --was one of the most dramatic and significant in Chinese history. In 1368 Yongle's father, the Buddhist monk Zhu Yuanzhang, led the rebels who reclaimed China from the Mongol-ruled Yuan dynasty and reigned for 30 years as Emperor Hongwu, establishing the Ming dynasty. But Yongle (Zhu Di, 1360-1424) did not directly succeed his father; the throne first passed briefly to Yongle's nephew, Emperor Jianwen, whom Yongle drove from the palace (and possibly murdered) in 1402.

The strong, centralized, autocratic government set up by his father and developed by Yongle--which concentrated power in the emperor, his eunuch assistants, and the scholar-advisors of the Grand Secretariat--lasted for more than two centuries. Yongle moved China's capital from Nanjing to Beijing in 1421, where he constructed the magnificent Forbidden City, in which twenty-three successive emperors would reside. He rebuilt the Grand Canal, directly linking the new capital to the fertile Yangzi Delta and facilitating grain shipments for Beijing's burgeoning population. He relentlessly pursued expansion of China's territory into Mongolia, Manchuria, and Vietnam, and sent the admiral Zheng He on six voyages--each employing more than sixty vessels--to Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean, establishing contact with places as distant as Hormuz in the Persian Gulf and Somalia in Africa. I am a historian specializing Chinese history. I am very disappointed by the author's work. Comparing to Jonathan Spence's books and Ray Huang's book on Ming history, this book is very boring and lack of deepness. The author has made a great effort to gather a lot of details but they are so fragmental. The author fails to contextualize Yongle and his time, making Yongle so isolated in the Ming history. Those long citations easily put readers into sleep. As an academic book, it lacks a special perspective and has no argument. As a text book, it's hard to attract students because there is no story.

Highly Readable Look at Emperor Yongle.......2002-04-04

Shih Shan Henry Tsai has done something that Jonathan Spence has not been able to do: write a book that people can read and understand. No offense to Spence, I know he is considered the man for Chinese history, but maybe he is a better speaker than writer, because I can't get through any of his books and I have a strong background in Chinese History.

Professor Tsai has taken primary and secondary sources about the second Ming Emperor or third depending on how you look at it and turned it into a interesting, well written, little book. The book is only about 200 pages and it is a quick read, but at the same time highly informative.

I did not know much about the Ming Dynasty or Emperor Yongle before reading this book, but now I do. To me a good history book is one where you learn things you did not know before, and this book did that.

I recommend this book highly to anyone who enjoys Chinese history. And if you want to read a more modern history of China look at Mandate of Heaven by Orville Schell.
