Excellent Reference for Everyone.......2007-05-17

This book is complete, detailed, structured & full of good information that is easy to follow. It is the best book that I have bought on the subject of maintenance management to date, and is now one of the few constant companion books that travel with me. I would recommend Asset Maintenance Management to anyone in any field of maintenance management. At least one of the articles has a definite electrical diagnostic slant for our electrical bretheren.

My only criticisms would be that the spell checker wasn't functioning particularly efficiently at the time of editing, and I've noted that at least two of the graphics have been partially cut off at the base. Finally, this book is based entirely around fixed processing plant, and as yet have no seen no applications of the information to mobile plant.

In closing, maintenance principles, philosophies, strategies & tactics are roundly universal and this book is a "must-buy" for anyone of any maintenance persuasion seeking to continue down the road of Continuous Improvement.

I would like to say that Cogito's Electronic Companion to Business Statistics is an outstanding learning tool and I highly recommend it.

On the recommendation of a friend, I began using the software to refresh my skills in the subject before beginning my MBA. Statistics had always been a difficult subject for me and I was concerned I would really struggle when I needed to use it at the graduate level. After running through this CD just one time, I understand stats like I never have before. And the fact that this Electronic Companion focuses on Business Statistics has given me an excellent foundation of understanding for "real world" statistical examples.

The thing that sets this product apart is that it brings the subject to life in a way no textbook can. The video, graphics, animations and audio are a lot more effective than simply the one-dimensional picture and text in a book.

After my experience, I recommended it to three of my classmates and all three have told me that they are thrilled with it as well.

A definite thumbs up!

I collect dress forms so this book definitely caught my eye! Since I can't sew, a friend offered to make the quilt for me and it's turning out terrific. I can't wait to see the finished product. She said that the directions are wonderful and easy to understand.

Pretty quilt projects using fusible machine applique.......2006-08-18

There are a lot of quilt books out there, so I was pleased to come across this one with a wonderful variety of designs. As someone who has many different types of projects going at once, and needs a refresher on the basics when I pick one up, I found the instruction and format provided excellent! Being a seamstress, I admit I was drawn to the dress design on the cover, but I found some other fun designs inside as well.

The book is very nicely laid out with beautiful and helpful photos. Basic Instruction is provided at the front, with the detailed quilt projects following. Like many quilting books, the focus is on piecing and putting the quilt together, so, while tool basics and some illustrations are included, the reader is directed to other sources if more information is needed on quilting techniques. Not being an experienced quilter, I was hoping for a little more information on this aspect of the quilt, but (at least for the dress quilt I focused on) the authors chose to leave the quilting choice up to the reader. The photos helped, though!

This book is one that inspired me to do more appliqué and to try the machine technique. The authors' introduction about their family sewing experiences was enjoyable reading.

She liked her subject.......2005-02-13

A fair bit of the text in this book went towards explaining why Sarah Churchill has been undervalued or unfairly treated in previous biographies. In certain sections this is helpful, in others it is very distracting. In some ways, I wish this biographer could have been a bit more objective about her subject; she made it seem as though Sarah's missteps in politics were completely out of her control, when in fact a healthy dose of tact and respect for other people's feelings (without betraying her own convictions, just with respect for others) might have won her more success in her endeavors. That said, for Sarah Jennings to rise from impoverished gentility to a wealthy and powerful duchess (not to mention founding a well-known and lasting dynasty) is not merely remarkable, but almost incredible.

Overall, the biography was very good, although I wish it would have had a family tree showing how the Marlborough family grew, who all the granchildren were and when they were born (not to mention which of Sarah's daughters were their mothers) and even possibly a chronology, as the scope of Sarah's life and the breadth of her story made it sometimes difficult to put certain events into context.

An objective portrait of a remarkable woman.......2004-03-24

Sarah Churchill, 1st Duchess of Marlborough gained notoriety through three things:

1. She was a lady-in-waiting/best friend to Queen Anne of England. She took this position of power for granted, treating the Queen much like a dumb child. She felt it was her right to instruct the Queen on appropriate political decisions and appointments at court. When Sarah became too pushy and arrogant, the Queen severed the friendship, leading to a very public fall from favour.

2. She was married to the military man John Churchill, who defeated Louis XIV's French army in the early 1700s (A big thing at the time - remember England and France were arch enemies). This victory led Queen Anne to give John and Sarah titles (Duke and Duchess of Marlborough) and a huge government grant to build a massive palace with - Blenheim, which still stands today outside of Oxford UK.

3. Her direct descendents include Winston Churchill and Diana, Princess of Wales.

Ophelia Field has written a biography which covers all these events, and also tells us objectively about the woman herself. She does not attempt to paint a rosy picture of Sarah, who could be stubborn and domineering. At the same time, she explains WHY Sarah did certain things (based on letters she wrote to family and friends - many excerpts included), and why her political views were as they were. Crucially, she discusses how Sarah's support of the Whig party, her deep rooted belief in their righteousness, developed into a fanatacism which led to her fall from the Queen's favour and high society. Queen Anne is also brought to life as a woman all her own, though her reign was short.

This biography was informative, educational (about the political and aristocratic climate of the time 1680s-1720s), and fascinating. It portrayed a modern woman ahead of her time. I feel if I had met Sarah Churchill, I may not have liked her (she polarised people - you either loved or hated her), but I certainly would have respected and admired her.

An excellent book of Business Law.......2000-08-31

I bought this book a week ago. I am a foreign-educated lawyer and I have decided to compare Business Law of my country with Business Law in USA (learned at the US colleges and universities). I was pleasently suprised and also very satisfied with this buy. I appreciate very much the complete coverage of business law topics - especially integration of ethics, social responsibility, economics, historic issues into the presentation of business law topics as well as international topics. The book is written using clear language without problems of understanding as well as for non-native English readers. It was a perfect idea to include TOTALAW CD-ROM which provides access to 30 updated acts and statutes. I appreciate it. I would say the book worth its price and I highly recommend it to everybody who is in any connection with business law. I thank the author for unbelievable excellent work on this third edition of Contemporary business law book.

I am an author and a poet and during a leisure trip to Las Vegas, Nevada with my family, we were able to obtain a front row seat at the Gladys Knight Show. It was awesome. What a display of great talent! Reading her book is fascinating. The historical perspective of her story is amazing. She states how she believes diabetes eventually crept upon her, and why. However, she has it under control. The ways in which she blends her songs into her treatment plan is humbling. For example, she uses the heading in one section of the book, "Neither One Of Us Wants to Say Goodbye to the Cheeseburger," where she discusses fatty foods and how to avoid fast foods. The pictures of her family are wonderful. Her philosophy of dealing with positive people, exercising daily, and burning calories is a formula for success. The final section of the book deals with a variety of mouth-watering dishes and recipes. They are all healthy with her special blend of spices, herbs, and juices, with a low fat touch. This is an easy and relaxing book to read. It's a great treat to and for lowering one's blood sugar and staying healthy. I highly recommend it!!!

At Home With Gladys Knight is a wonderful, inspiring book. I bought this book for my parents who both have diabetes. After years of trying to get them to follow doctor recommended diets it is a relief to have a book that inspires my parents to not only care about their diet, but their physical fitness as well.
Mrs. Knight has created a quick and easy read that is full of motivation. This book gets 5 stars in the Murphy household.

Dave Fury's similar treatment, (1989) will be re-issued in 2002. Ed's filmography is the definitive narrative, useful key to popular 'cult' classic 50's film starring Burt..."Sweet Smell of Success" for which Ann Hornaday, ex-film critic Baltimore Sun, has a book in development.
