Customer Reviews:
Highly Impressive Seller!.......2007-09-21
This seller is highly impressive! WoW! very fast delivery and I mean, the book was as advertised! Absolutely Amazing! I highly recommend buying from this seller! Whoo!
The best Physics problem set for the MCAT ......PERIOD!.......2007-06-17
This book is one of the two books I focused on for my MCAT. I used this book and the 1001 Chemistry questions to "freshen up" on my weak areas.
Examkrackers 1001 Questions in MCAT Chemistry (Examkrackers)
These books are NOT designed to be worked all the way beginning to end, but either randomly or specific sections. It even mentions that in the books. These are not to be confused with the Examkrackers textbooks or testbooks, and these should not be purchased instead of on those. These are only a supplement to the examkrackers program for the MCAT.
When I took my practic tests (AMCAS is the best because they make the MCAT) I found out my weak areas. I then when back in the Examkrackers textbooks and reviewed that passage, then I did all of the problems for that section in the problem book which was only about 15 per topic (e.g. linear acceleration). The alternate method would be doing every 4th or 5th question till you find something you aren't skilled in.
The problems are ordered in increasing difficulty, with explanations in the back of the book and best way to attempt the problem. Best of all, if you use it with the textbooks it explains how to do the problems in your head efficiently. By the time I was ready for the MCAT, I learned more physics from these books than a whole year in college. In college I just memorized formulas, with these problem books you learn the concepts and how it relates. This one beats out Kaplan, and Princeton by long shot (I used both). I never memorized one single formula for the MCAT, and my score was very competitive.
At first it seemed promising........2007-06-10
At first I thought that this book was good. It seems like a good idea to practice 1001 questions. However, the questions are confusing and not reflective of real MCAT questions. I've had my physics instructor, who used to teach MCAT prep courses, look at the book and he also thought that many questions were not worded well. They say that they are trying to make it more challenging so that you will know what to expect on the MCAT. I don't like that approach and wish I hadn't spent my money on this. BTW I'm getting 10's and 11's, usually only missing two or three physics questions, on my practice sections, so I don't feel like it's because I don't understand physics.
Review of Examkrackers 1001 Questions in MCAT Physics by Jonathan Orsay.......2007-01-13
The book contains over 1001 practice questions for MCAT. The shear amount of practice from this book is guaranteed to help you prepare for MCAT one way or another.
How similar the questions are to actual MCAT physics questions is a whole another matter. And in truth not too similar. Firstly, actual MCAT physics questions are often based on a passage, all the physics questions from Examkrackers are standalone questions. Actual MCAT questions vary in topic from one question to the next, in this book questions are grouped together by topic. So if you're trying to simulate MCAT testing conditions while doing the exercises in this practice book it wouldn't be a realistic simulation. Secondly because all questions are standalone, it's hard to set time limits for a number of questions. Of course you're always trying to do the questions as fast as you can, being as careful as you can. But taking the MCAT requires a good sense of timing that you probably won't get from this book. Thirdly, the content of the questions in this book rely on what is extra to the MCAT. So there may be questions that require a bit of memorization and knowledge from other sciences. In itself this is not a bad thing, but it should dictate the way you use the book.
If you have time, I would recommend doing all the questions in there. And then moving on to more realistic practice from other books.
I hope this was a helpful review.
Delivery time.......2005-09-10
It took a long time from Amazon to deliver the item to me and I did not feel good about since my exam was getting closer to the date of delivering the book.
In the begining I ask for free delivary and you said it will take 5 days but the 5 days came and gone and no delivary.
I tried another type of delivary but no way the book did not come. Then I cancle the whole thing and starts again with the v. expensive delivary then the book came, but it was v.late.
Book Description
This book reviews all the physics tested by the MCAT. It includes eight 30 minute exams in the MCAT format, and 120 additional stand alone questions. All 304 questions are in MCAT form and fully annotated. This book is expensive because it is the best MCAT physics review available.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book.......2007-05-09
The book is great. It covers everything you need for the MCAT without giving to much detail. I'd recommend the whole ExamKrackers series. How much better are the new updated edtions? I'm not sure.
OK for physics review.......2006-11-04
not the best mcat physics review book, IMO. the list of formulas is nice but other than that, just an OK book.
Use in Combination with Another Review Book.......2006-10-04
I find that this review book does the best job of directly telling what will and what will not be on the MCAT (I'm basing my comparison to Kaplan's and Princeton Review's Physics materials). Be forewarned, you must have a good background knowledge of introductory Physics to get the maximum benefit from this book. If you are in need of deep, thorough review of Physics (i.e. your Physics is weak), I wouldn't start here. I am using this book as a complement to Kaplan's review book that I received when I enrolled in Kaplan's MCAT course.
The book is broken down into 8 chapters, or lectures, each with a new Physics topic. There are discrete problems within each lecture, as well as a 30 minute "mini-MCAT" to take after you've completed the reading for each lecture. Though I am very pleased by the abundance of MCAT-like questions (and satisfied with the explanations), I find the questions emphasize a conceptual understanding of the material, and don't require a lot of calcuation. That's great for aiding in your conceptual understanding, but I'd also recommend doing additional practice with MCAT problems from another source to get used to doing relatively complex compuatations quickly and without a calculator.
Overall, however, I'm please with this book; it's the best Physics review book I've come across so far.
Ecellent Review Material.......2006-08-31
The ExamKrackers Books Break everything you need to know for The MCAT down their simplest forms.
Don't Study with this book........2006-06-18
I do not recommend this book. Not only it is poorly written, it will not give you the understanding you will need to do well on MCAT physics. This book is clearly not written by someone who REALLY understands physics. The questions at the end of each topic are way harder than the material covered and the explanation are poor and incomplete. STAY AWAY! I wish someone had told me this and had saved me time.

Customer Reviews:
Mehh, its OK - dont believe the hype.......2007-08-23
I admit that Examkrackers is all right - they are the best condensed review for the MCAT on the market. Of course this doesn't mean jack considering that the rest of the review materials (kaplan, etc.) are pretty much garbage. Does it make you the best if you're king of the garbage pile? I'm not saying that Examkrackers sucks - its just OK. Its the best MCAT review on the market, but it has a ton of problems - many concepts are explained vaguely (thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and optics to name a few), the answers for the review questions are vague, and THEY ARE ACTUALLY NOW CHARGING FOR MEMBERSHIP ON THEIR WEBSITE TO SEE THE ERRATA TO THEIR BOOKS. So if you buy this set, be prepared to shell out more cash to join their forums to get a clearer explanation to certain topics only vaguely referred to in their books. Let me also say to look elsewhere for a condensed review on electromagnetism (they left A TON of stuff out). Its pros are that they give great condensed reviews on Biology and Organic chem.
I don't know how they've got a ton of 5 star reviews - I think THE ExamKrackers COMPANY IS ACTUALLY filling out at least 75% of the 5 star reviews on amazon (shame shame) - its 4 stars AT BEST... Not that that means its a totally crappy product...
this book is all you'll need for MCAT.......2007-08-15
This package is geared toward to new computer-based MCAT. The entire package consists of five books (bio, organic chem, chem, physics, verbal and a practice exam). The materials covered in the book is succint and colorful that makes studying fun and efficient. Highly recommended to everyone who is going to take MCAT.
Examkrackers Mcat Complete Study Package (Examkrackers).......2007-08-13
This is a great package with all you need to know about the material that's on the MCAT's. This package includes a review book on each subject. Each book sums up the material, which i normally find difficult to understand, and makes it easy to remember with a little bit of humor. This package was perfect for what i needed to prepare. Don't waste your money on the exam classes. teach yourself with these books and you'll remember more.
Examkrackers for MCAT.......2007-08-09
This product is definately the way to go. I have gone through the Kaplan book as well as this series, and there is really no comparison. Examkrackers is a superior product.
MCAT Preperation.......2007-07-27
Outstanding product! I prepared for the MCAT last year with a different company and spent almost $1700 for an online class (completed all the material too). My first MCAT scores were less than adequate to say the least. I have spent 4 weeks now using this material (Plus Audio Osmosis- and a few other ExamKrackers material-Examkrackers MCAT Audio Osmosis with Jordan and Jon (Examkrackers)Examkrackers 16 Mini Mcat's (Examkrackers MCAT Manuals)) and feel SO much more prepared than I did last year. I could have saved over $1200 if I used ExamKrackers last year.
This product sums up a tremendous amount of information. Even better, it is full of short cuts and memory aids that are essential for the timed MCAT test. My scores have improved DRAMATICALLY!

Cute Projects!.......2007-01-04
The beaded flower projects are just the right size to have almost instant creative gratification. They are also the right size to fit almost anywhere in your home and/or office decor and in the decor of your friends and family.
The instructions are clear and the background information is very interesting. This is a delightful book just to pick up and enjoy looking through, too.
Not enough images.......2006-06-17
The images of the actual flowers were too small to actually see any detail.
Although the directions of each step are shown in the front of the book, I find that I have to keep turning the pages back when making each flower. I am a beginner but I thought there were too many written and hard to understand directions.
It is also a very small book for $19.95.
Good, but not worth the cost.......2004-12-26
This was the first book I was able to find on the craft of beaded flowers, hence the only reason I shelled out $20 for the thinnest manual I've ever seen. These days if you do a search many how-to books pop up; most of which I'd recommend before buying this one. I've read about a dozen of them now, and while this particular pamphlet has a lot of good information and a few patterns--any of the other books offer just the same (if not better) instructions and patterns. When I look at it in comparison with the other resources available, I'm disappointed I spent so much on so little.
Great French beaded flowers starter!.......2001-10-05
While some folks have said they had a bit of trouble with the directions here, I found them very easy to understand and use. Her diagrams on the basic techniques are clear and helpful, and the several patterns I've done so far have worked up beautifully. I also liked that her patterns are for full (albeit small) arrangements -- some beaded flower patterns out there are for single flowers, and it's fun to create a whole mini-arrangement instead! (They make GREAT gifts, too!)
The title of the book suggests she plans to release others -- and I can't wait for them!
If you've been dying to try French beaded flowers, and can't find (or bear to pay $$$ for!) any of the old 1970's out of print "bibles" of this craft, this is a great way to get started!
It's ok . . ........2000-05-12
This is an ok book, but the directions are fairly confusing. Other than that, it's an good book.

Book Description
Bargain Books are non-returnable.
What does it mean to be a man? Is it the size of your quadraphonic hi-fi equipment or the fit of your flares? The Male Mystique presents a swinging vision of the ideal male-dominated lifestyle -- at least, as seen through the looking-glass of men's magazine ads of the 1960s and '70s. This is Total Male Living as it was meant to be: a world of musk, whiskey, polyester slacks, "male comfort spray," and, of course, babes. With 150 swaggering print advertisements presenting an astonishing array of swarthy delights, crass copy, and surprise celebrity sightings, The Male Mystique is tribute to the time when testosterone was in vogue and Stay-Prest stayed pants at the ready. Ladies, please don't crush the velour.
Customer Reviews:
The Macho Man Revisted.......2005-11-24
The Male Mystique offers an illuminating study of the "real man" archetype on which so many of us guys were raised: a hostile, arrogant, emotionally crippled ninny, slowly destroying himself with booze and cigarettes while being fawned over by non-threatening, sexually compliant child-women who somehow manage to be even dumber than he is. Not a pretty picture. However, the most disturbing element of the book lies in the author's attitude: Boyreau seems to regard Madison Avenue's monstrosity as admirable and romantic, an ideal to be cherished. His pretentious text is mercifully brief.
Book Description
Presented by The Drucker Foundation
"Austin has uncovered the common elements and key strategies that make for effective collaborations.... In The Collaboration Challenge, he illuminates these key lessons for all leaders, and makes it possible for each of us to meet the collaboration challenge."
--Frances Hesselbein, chairman of the board of governors, The Drucker Foundation, and John C. Whitehead, founder, The John C. Whitehead Fund for Not-for-Profit Management, Harvard Business School
"Austin has performed a valuable service for nonprofit organizations and their corporate partners by illuminating the dynamics of successful relationships. His useful book deserves to be widely read by leaders in both sectors concerned about increasing the effectiveness of their social action agenda."
--Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Harvard Business School, author of World Class and Rosabeth Moss Kanter on the Frontiers of Management
"The entire nonprofit sector has been searching for the expertise and tools this book provides. Nothing else like it exists."
--Bill Shore, executive director of Share-Our-Strength and author of The Cathedral Within and Revolution of the Heart
In these complex times, when no organization can succeed alone, nonprofits and businesses are embracing collaboration for mutual benefits. Nonprofits are partnering with businesses to further their missions, develop resources, strengthen programs, and thrive in the competitive world. Companies are also discovering that alliances with nonprofits generate significant rewards: increased customer preference, improved employee morale, greater brand identity, stronger corporate culture, and higher innovation.
In this timely and insightful book, James E. Austin provides a practical framework for understanding how traditional philanthropic relationships can be transformed into powerful strategic alliances. He offers advice and lessons drawn from the experiences of numerous collaborations, including Timberland and City Year; Starbucks and CARE; Georgia-Pacific and The Nature Conservancy; MCI WorldCom and The National Geographic Society; Reebok and Amnesty International; and Hewlett-Packard and the National Science Resource Center. Readers will learn how to:
* Find and connect with high-potential partners
* Ensure strategic fit with the partner's mission and values
* Generate greater value for each partner and society
* Manage the partnering relationship effectively

Customer Reviews:
Good to start your mind thikning, lots of reading, but not ground breaking.......2007-04-18
Issue of non profit organizations and business partnership is discussed from perspective of what strategies and knowledge is necessary to achieve effective collaboration. Author leads through stages of developing this collaborative partnership and provides tools to measure both success and its potential.
I wish author would include more material on collaboration for companies from similar industry. In order to get a broader understanding of other type of partnerships, one chapter about that would have been a good idea to include in the next book revisions.
Great Review in Foundation News & Commentary.......2001-11-15
Foundation News and Commentary
July/August 2001
Vol. 42, No. 4
Review by Beth Brown
We all want to partner. We all speak of collaborative spirit. But when the rubber meets the road, what does collaboration really entail, and what's the difference between a deal and an alliance?
James Austin breaks down the notion of collaboration into a must-read users guide for any organizational leader embarking on a collaboration. And although the book is geared toward corporations and their nonprofit partners, many of the lessons are universal and can be applied to any individual or organization considering a joint venture, be it a marriage or cross-sector alliance.
Austin notes the role serendipity and personal relationships plays in introducing partnerships-a conversation in a coffee shop or during a long plane ride-often sparking the "ah-ha" moment leading to the realization that a corporation and a nonprofit have what Austin calls mission mesh. The organizations' leaders can see how their visions' core competencies can make a whole greater than the sum of its parts. Through in-depth and candid examples from partnerships, including those between Starbucks and CARE, Timberland and City Year, and American Eagle Outfitters and Jumpstart, Austin chronicles the necessary, and often awkward, stages businesses and nonprofits pass through in order to become strategic partners.
Austin has a healthy skepticism for the ease of collaboration. He often likens it to dating, and as with a courting pair from different countries, he sees the cultural and values barriers between the sectors as the greatest obstacle to collaboration. The corporate leaders he interviews are open about the fact that their bottom line is to make a profit and a partnership can often assist their public relations efforts.
For the nonprofits, there is greater accountability held when working with corporations, and sometimes the social value nonprofits generate is not easily quantifiable. In addition, each can be associated with the mistakes of the other. However, the payoff is that one can also be associated with the success of the other and be exposed to new audiences-potential customers for the business, future partners for the nonprofit.
One interesting observation Austin makes is the inherent noncollaborative nature of a philanthropic relationship (it is the lowest on the collaborative totem poll). Although he does not single out foundations, he characterizes the giving of money by one organization to another as an exchange of resources for warm fuzzy feelings. Among philanthropic relationships, the venture philanthropy approach seems to offer a model of partnership similar in the level of engagement to the examples mentioned in Austin's book.
The details from the examples and extensive quotes of philanthropic and business leaders, such as Aaron Lieberman of Jumpstart and Jeff Swartz of Timberland, give the reader an insider's view of what went into the partnership. At the same time, the book is filled with simple big-picture truths such as "serious relationships, organizational and interpersonal, should not be rushed." That's a helpful notion to remember with everyone so eager to jump on the partnership bandwagon. Austin reminds us that having and keeping a partnership is not the end all-adding value is the goal and sustainability does not necessarily equal effectiveness.
Austin's greatest contributions to fostering collaboration are the tools the book includes: questions, checklists, continuums-cheat sheets for collaboration-that would be an asset to any leader considering partnership. In addressing the questions he poses, Austin leads potential collaborators through the development of a partnership purpose.
The final chapter of the book contains a complete conceptual framework for collaboration that seems universally applicable to any partnership. These "Seven C's of Collaboration" include Connection with Purpose and People, Clarity of Purpose, Congruency of Mission, Creation of Value, Communication Between Partners, Continual Learning, and Commitment to the Partnership.
So let's all take a cross-sector breath before claiming our next partner and take the messages of James Austin's book to heart and practice.

Well written and practical........2001-01-10
This is timely management book should be read by all those interested in leading, or advocating, a strategic alliance between a business and a non-profit, or by those who are already involved in such an alliance.
The issues covered by the book are very topical. Strategic alliances have become increasingly important to organizational survival. In addition, some organizations, including businesses, recognize that, for the long haul, they need to be in closer harmony with deeper aspirations of their customers, employees and shareholders. Others oppose such approaches as a dangerous temptation to fuzzy thinking and conflicted agendas. Yet others view the non-economic motives of their constituents as only relevant to marketing campaigns or high-minded mission statements.
This practical book addresses these opportunities and challenges systematically and with insight. It doesn't push quick fixes or high-risk strategies, but rather presents processes and analytical frameworks that support sequential acts of collaboration.
The author is a good teacher and effectively uses case studies to support his recommendations. His approach is practical and recognizes the reality that every relationship involves an exchange of value. His emphasis is on having clear agendas and then searching together for common outcomes built around relative strengths.

Sound advice on innovtion.......2003-10-05
The core themes of this book are:
* that change is constant and continuous innovation the only viable response
* that successful innovation requires 'an holistic approach that aligns strategy and vision, process, leadership style and culture to the innovation ambition'
* that there are many ways to start on the journey, but the journey never ends. Innovation is ultimately a way of life.
The text is made up of sound advice, well arranged, and interspersed with short essays by experts in the field (such as Gary Hamel and Costas Markides). Each chapter ends with a summary list of 'anchor points'.
There is a good last chapter of suggested further reading.
A Must Read for anyone creating an innovative organisation!.......2003-06-09
This book takes great guru speak by interesting people like Gary Hamel and Costas Markides and adds to it insightful commentary by the author. Bettina von Stamm is not just an editor of all this wisdom; she is obviously expert in her own right, drawing on deep experience to navigate the reader through the "endless sea of innovation challenges". As entertaining as it is helpful.
Very rich book on how to make your company more innovative.......2003-05-04
I'm an innovation and strategy manager in The Netherlands and I've read many books and articles on the subject. This book stands out, because it offers a huge amount of information, best practices, thoughts, dilemma's and paradoxes on the subject. The author is responsible for running the Innovation Exchange Initiative at London Business School at wich Innovative companies exchange information. This position garantuees she can tap into the latest insights on innovation.
The book also has contributions from great thinkers on Innovation, like Gary Hamel, Costas Martides and so on.
I'm preparing my MBA dissertation on the subject of Innovation and this book offered the best insights so far.
Mind you: this book is NOT an easy to follow 5-step guide to innovation walhalla. You really have to think for yourself!
My overall opinion: highly recommended.

Book Description
This book examines historical evidence for the success and failure of strategic decisions over the last thirty years, and considers why there are so many strategic moves which are subsequently reversed, and indeed why the failure rate of many strategic moves is high. Possible causes are explored, and a close examination is made of issues of misperceptions of the business environment, poor analysis and lack of creative thinking. The variety of papers cover wide-ranging perspectives on the subject, from ways of improving strategic decisions, to the numerous analytical techniques that can be used in strategic decision making.

Description:
Sustaining the research and innovation process in the 21st century is a complex task. With research budgets under scrutiny, a huge increase in the volume of research publications, mounting patent applications and increased litigation, a successful participant-whether an individual researcher, institution, company or government-needs to be equipped with the right tools and information to make good strategic decisions. Sustainable research is illustrated here as a ''cycle'' leading from pure research to applied innovations onto patenting through to commercial wealth creation, which can then be returned as further research and development. Using case studies and examples from the fields of biotechnology and nanotechnology, critical stages of this cycle are identified and illustrated with data, tools and analysis.
