Customer Reviews:
Spiritualism.......2007-10-22
This is a pocketbook guide--about the size of a 4" x 6" photo with 96 pages, so it's a quick read. You could slip it in your pocket (guys) or purse (ladies) and take it with you on the bus, to the office lunchroom, or wherever and you will probably want to re-read it many times. Introductory comments claim that "within its pages are the secrets to making all your dreams come true. It is based on natural laws that govern all of creation. . . " They also claim that "these are the same principles that nature uses to create everything in material existence".
The natural laws/The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success are listed as:
1) The Law of Pure Potentiality--our essential state is pure consciousness with all possibilities and infinite creativity and is not separate from our spiritual essence. Mr. Chopra explains what the Law means in several pages and then summarizes with how you can experience the Law [the correct way]. In this instance, you can experience this Law by 1) connecting with your spirit daily, as in meditation, 2) practicing being nonjudgmental and 3) communing with nature.
2) The Law of Giving and Receiving--giving and receiving is about the flow and exchange of energies. Give love if you expect to receive love, and so on. Give freely with an open heart. Giving does not have to monetary.
3) The Law of Karma or Cause and Effect--action and the consequence(s) of that action--conscious choice-making. Make choices that will bring happiness.
4) The Law of Least Effort--our actions should be motivated by love, not by power and control. Accept people as they are.
5) The Law of Intention and Desire--within every desire are the mechanics for its fulfillment
6) The Law of Detachment--give up our attachment to the outcome of our desires. Attachment is based on insecurity and fear
7) The Law of Dharma or Purpose in Life--we are spiritual beings who have taken on physical form to fulfill a purpose and to serve others with that purpose
Of course, there is far more in this booklet than my quickie review of it. As explained in number 1, above, Mr. Chopra gives a detailed explanation of each Law, then explains the proper way to experience the Law. I believe this to be an excellent little book with really good information. You will find many of today's respected spiritual authors talking about the same concepts, because, as I believe, these concepts are right on target. Living these concepts and working with your spirituality can help provide you a great deal of joy and peace.

Aj.......2007-10-13
This book just blows off the definition of what I assumed on success.
It gives a new way to look at life and for what purpose we are here for.
This is a must text for all just when they start in their adult life.
Not all are as lucky as Deepak Chopra to have parents to have instilled
those values as this parents did
A solid read for those embarking on the spiritual path.......2007-10-10
This book is a solid read for any person embarking on the path of self-discovery. It summarizes a group of spiritual laws that Chopra identifies as being key aspects in one's ability to fulfill their dreams. It essentially provides a foundation for further study as opposed to being a comprehensive self-help/development manual. One caution for anyone who is new to this "path," is that some of the content might be a bit farther out on the metaphysical curve than you've experienced previously, and particularly so if you're coming from a rather traditional religious perspective.
Feel Good.......2007-10-09
This a great, easy read. This is the type of book you can read over and over and you get something different from it every time. It's a great read for relieving stress and becoming inspired. I think everyone should read this book at least once.
An Idea That Did Not Need to Happen.......2007-10-05
When I purchased this book, I thought it was simply a new edition of the original book of the same title. After all, why would it be necessary to "ABRIDGE" a 111-page book? Anyway, I ordered 12 copies of it as I was using it for a class. Only too late did I discover it was a shortened version of the original masterpiece (and Amazon would not exchange it for what I wanted). I suppose the book was reissued in this format as part of a new marketing effort associated with the DVD movie of the same name.
Whatever the reason, there is no need to buy this instead of the original title --which is a jewel for anyone's library!

It works.......2005-09-24
I needed this book for a class, so I'm not sure of how it compares with similar books. It provides a good overview of the considerations one would need to make when starting a business. I'll keep this book on the shelves, even after I finish the class.
Got to be better books on the subject........2004-10-20
This book was very dry. If you already have a business in mind and are ready to start it;this book may give you some ideas. It is a good book, but if you are still in the concept stage contact SBAonline.org or look for another.

If you're new to the entrepreneurial world, but hope to have a hand in one of the 7 million or so small businesses that will be launched in the coming year, the fourth edition of Steps to Small Business Start-Up will prove helpful. Longtime collaborators Linda Pinson and Jerry Jinnett have updated their systematic planning and implementation guide with appropriate advice on key issues that span the process, from "Examining Your Personal Objectives" and "Generating a Viable Idea" to "Choosing a Business Location" and "Selecting Your Insurance." A few sections dealing with the most technical aspects of running a business successfully (such as "Keeping Your Books") provide little more than an introduction to the various particulars involved, but most provide more than enough specifics to get your enterprise up and humming. Their suggestions for "Choosing a Business Name," for instance, spell out nine initial points to consider, including "Choose a name that has meaning for your target market. Identify three to five personality traits or benefits that make your company special [then] focus on the qualities your target customers appreciate." --Howard Rothman

"A visual feast."—Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot.
Ann Benson, one of America’s foremost bead artisans, offers an array of eye-catching projects for beaded jewelry and accessories, all created from the surprisingly simple technique of beadweaving and showcased in gorgeous full-page photographs. The patterns and instructions for 50 of her most spectacular pieces use two basic methods: needleweaving, a style similar to crocheting, and bead card stitching, in which beads are sewn directly onto a patterned card. Ranging in style from Southwestern to Far Eastern, and Art Deco to Victorian, the projects include shimmering topaz earrings, a richly patterned Oriental carpet purse, a delicate ribbon pin, an exquisite purple floral belt, and much more. Every project highlights the beads’ exciting colors, shapes, sizes, and textures.

Employing seed and bugle beads in two different basic techniques--needleweaving and card stitching--Beadweaving presents 50 beautiful projects, each with full step-by-step instructions and patterns. The needleweaving method is worked in counted rows from a gridded pattern, resulting in interesting geometric-based designs. In card stitching, the beads are sewn directly onto a lightweight cardboard or manila folder; because a geometric grid is not necessary, the designs can be more freeform and curvilinear. Ranging from contemporary to traditional, the attractive projects include necklaces, pins, earrings, belts, barrettes, and small purses, all accompanied by color photos of the finished pieces.

Beadweaving:New Needle Techniques & Original Designs.......2007-01-26
I like this book for the varied concepts and color combinations chosen for the numerous projects. I do not like some of the techniques described as they do not always seem to be the best for the form achieved. I find that there are better ways to bead the cylindrical items than the one used in this book. Otherwise most projects are tasteful. Most designs will satisfy the traditional minded.
I didnt liked it anymore.......2002-08-06
This book give you a nice idea of how to make beedweaving, but the designs its made there is not useful and i was thinking after i make it what did i do with it, I give itto my friend and I dont like the things maded in this book, I think you could find another book with more creative things.
nice cover, but.......2002-08-03
I have been beading for more years than I care to admit, and I also teach beading. Of my extensive bead book collection, I rate this one at the bottom! The cover is very nice, which drew me in, in addition to the fact that there are few good books on bead embroidery. I hoped this book would fill the gap, but the content is seriously lacking. Not only is it not innovative,as advertised, but the instructions leave large holes. I'd say, go back to the drawing board. An illustration of a process really does require clear words to go with it. The problem begins in chapter one and does not get much better as the author continues on.
Feast for the Eyes.......2002-01-19
This is an incredible book with fabulous pictures and inspiration. Highly recommend for any beader.
Somewhat disappointing.......2000-02-16
This is basically a project book, with only brief explanations of the author's beadwork techniques. Since the book reviews emphasized the innovative aspects of her work, I was somewhat disappointed to see how little creative exploration was actually presented.
Unfortunately, the projects themselves aren't to my taste. But that's not a criticism -- just an observation of personal preferences.
Book Description
The Age of Diminished Expectations is a remarkable achievement, a quick read that tells you much of what there is to know about the great economic issues of the day. -- Peter Passell, New York Times Book Review
Paul Krugmans popular guide to the economic landscape of the 1990s has been revised and updated to take into account economic developments of the past three years. New material in the third edition includes: A new chapter--complete with colorful examples from Lloyds of London and Sumitomo Metals--on how risky behavior can lead to disaster in private markets.
An evaluation of the Federal Reserves role in reining in economic growth to prevent inflation, and the debate over whether its growth targets are too low.
A look at the collapse of the Mexican peso and the burst of Japans bubble economy.
A revised discussion of the federal budget deficit, including the growing concern that Social Security and Medicare payments to retiring baby boomers will threaten the solvency of the government. Finally, in the updated concluding section, the author provides three possible scenarios for the American economy over the next decade. He warns that we live in an age of diminished expectations, in which the voting public is willing to settle for policy drift--but with the first of the baby boomers turning 65 in 2011, the U.S. economy will not be able to drift indefinitely.
Customer Reviews:
He gets it wrong every time.......2007-07-09
It is amazing what a poor predictor Krugman is. You can, with about 80% probability of being right, take what he says to be wrong. This is not because he is dumb but rather because his perspective is wrong. He can analyze parts of the economy and be correct and then, right at the last moment, come to the wrong conclusion because his socialist belief system kicks in. Being an advocate for socialism and a truthful economic thinker are contradictions. He should give up one or the other. In any case, don't read this waste of time unless you are a true believer.
A little outdated, but educational.......2006-06-07
Thanks to Paul Krugman, I learned things related to economics from his book "The Age of Diminished Expectations" I did not at university. The book discusses possibilities for the American economy from the period 1995 to 2005 (roughly). We are already in 2006 and Paul Krugman's most likely scenario -- that the standard of living and economy would remain more or less the same -- proved correct. It is complacency by Americans regarding their living standards and their limited expectations of what politicians can do for them that makes the description "age of diminished expectations" appropriate for Professor Krugman. In earlier times, Americans were very optimistic on the future, looking forward to ever greater increases in national prosperity.
The book discusses the importance of productivity on the standard of living, and how they tend to correlate. From 2000 to 2004, American productivity growth jumped to 3%, which has helped America move ahead of other industrialized nations with sluggish economies. This achievement likely would have come as a surprise to Professor Krugman when he first wrote the book.
Ominously, Professor Krugman points out the seriousness of the budget deficit and national debt, which will only worsen as Medicare and other costs associated with America's aging population skyrocket, while these same productive workers leave the workforce to retire without being replaced adequately in sufficient numbers by younger workers.
How is America going to pay off its debt, which will only worsen if changes are not made? Eventually there must be major cutbacks on social benefits and services, or an increase in taxes, or both. Letting the problem grow will only lead America to a state of eventual insolvency.
Useful and Annoying.......2003-06-18
Krugman obviously knows his economics and this book serves as a concise overview of U.S. Economic policy for those already familiar with basic economics.
That said, Krugman is a whiner who cannot seem to leave his opinions at the door. I was annoyed by his excessivly negative analysis of U.S. Economic policy and I can only wonder about the source of his bitterness. His valid points are drowed in a sea of negativity that hide the the good news. Yes there is good AND bad news.
I would NOT recommend this to someone that is easily impressionable or new to Economics. This book is more "fair" than his more recent writing in the New York Times but if you are familiar with Economics you would be better off reading his published papers.
Excellent analysis. Poor forecast........2003-05-30
Paul Krugman is a world class economist. He foresees and understands economic trends better than most. His explanation of fiscal policies, international trade, and macroeconomic concepts are entertaining and clear.
Unfortunately, nothing he foresees comes true. In this book, he makes a case that because of recurring budget deficits causing a decline in our national savings rate, our investment rate will drop. This will cause a decline in productivity, and a resulting decline in the growth of our economy (GDP) and our living standard (GDP per capita). Thus, this will result in "The Age of Diminished Expectations."
The rest is history as they say. The nineties did not turn out the way Paul Krugman envisioned them. The economy increased rapidly, and so did living standards. He did not foresee the huge net foreign investments that bridged the gap between our low domestic savings rate and our high investment rate.
Well, nobody is perfect. Economic forecasting is challenging at best. Overall, it is still a very interesting and informative book. Everything he said in it will eventually be true, it is just a matter of when. But, it certainly was not true during the nineties which was his timeframe target at the time he wrote the book.
We must strive for more.......2002-08-10
Krugman's argument in this book is that the US economy, while not doing badly, isn't doing that well. Surely we can do better if only we expect more from our country. He goes on to provide an amazing economics lesson for the lay reader that discusses major economic topics, recent economic issues that are highly political, large problems with our current system, and what the future might hold. The chapters on international finance are particularly well written.
It's not the most recent of books, but it explains quite a lot of stuff, and most importantly, as with many of Krugman's books, you get to have a feel for the way an economist thinks. Economics is a state of mind in the sense that the more you study it, the more difficult it becomes to connect with other people. They just won't understand how your mind is thinking about things. What Krugman does is to make economics quite understandable without dumbing it down to the point where most academics would discard it as popular junk. He has strong political leanings that you are aware of if you read his column in the Times, but he is smart, and the "Age of Diminished Expectations" is definitely a good read.

Customer Reviews:
Useful.......2002-08-12
I found this book to be useful when I started my own business. It gave me several tips on what to do and how to do it so that I didn't overspend and found the correct avenues of publicity.
This book was second in effectiveness only to Guerilla PR Wired: Waging a Successful Publicity Campaign Online, Offline, and Everywhere in Between by Michael Levine.
Do it Yourself and Save.......2000-10-03
Best-selling books are made not born; they have to be promoted. Most independent book publicists charge $2-5,000 a month and it usually takes six months or more just to lay the groundwork for an effective publicity campaign. You can do it yourself.
This book covers the basics of promotion: media campaigns, media events, media kits, your contact file, how to pitch the media, using gimmicks to get attention, the art of the follow-up, interviews and a lot of inside advice.
Raleigh Pinskey is a successful author, publisher, speaker and promoter with years of experience.
As the author of 113 books (including revisions and foreign-language editions) and over 500 magazine articles, I highly recommend this book to authors and publishers.
Don't bother.......1999-09-07
This is one of the few books out of several dozen I have ordered from amazon that have been disappointing. The reason is now obvious to me: most or all of the other reviews have been written by Ms. Pinskey's friends and contacts. The book itself is uninteresting, generally fairly obvious, and heavily biased towards the US market. I would have given it two stars, but I am sufficiently angry at the misuse of the review system to want to introduce some balance. I just wish she'd put her energy into writing a better book instead of churning out this dull waste of paper and then pushing her associates into promoting it.
VERY EDUCATIONAL, VERY COMPLETE.......1999-08-07
I just returned from a trip to Greece & Turkey. I have been engrossed in your materials for the past nine days. You are a true expert in the marketing & PR field! You Can Hype Anything is outstanding! Very complete, very educational!
CAN'T PUT THE IDEAS INTO PRACTICE FAST ENOUGH!.......1999-02-12
I am loving your book! I can't read it fast enough or put the ideas into practice fast enough! Thank You! Barbara Lovejoy , author, Value You, Become An Unforgettable Woman.
