Bit expensive for 2 CDs, but very useful.......2005-09-19

The package contained 2 Audio CDs. They are very well made. They are in the format of questions and answers by each of the knoweledge areas of PMP exam. I would suggest using these after going through PMBOK and possibly another book for the exam. I used these towards the last couple of weeks. For the price charged, the CDs seem somewhwat expensive. But there is no other similar product.

I purchased the CD to listen in my car while commuting, but the CD doesn't work in my car. I have an older CD player and my car doesn't read a CD-R format. Sadly, this defeats my purpose. For the price, they should be delivering a higher quality product

Sorry, I read just too many biz books to give this 5 stars. It does have one theme which is profound, as described by others above. So I will just say that, besides that, it seems to be a jumbled mess of miscellaneous content from elsewhere woven through and through with the same "just do it, win, win, win" and "go for it, win, don't lose". The content is not original and hardly gives the reader one lick of ideas for executing anything. The football and beer commercial references get old fast and after several chapters I began to wonder if these guys ever built a business from the ground up, or did they just go rah rah rah for someone else. Lots of hindsight ... so what.

"It is not the size of the dog in the fight that counts," the coach said. "What matters is the size of the fight in the dog."

The principles in The Underdog Advantage build winning attitudes and character. According to authors David Morey and Scott Miller, these principles can drive your business, marketing and communications strategy. Today the incumbent, the authors say, has fewer advantages. Business books can be a rather repetitive banter of "do this - get that" strategies, often very forgetable. This book was completely out of the average mold. Miller and Morey cut to the chase, keep up the beat and open the door to a different way of thinking. Whether using the overall strategies, or honing the instinctual skills, this is a must read for anyone trying to move forward in their business, their relationships, or their lives.

I think you will find this an awesome book, as long as you know what to expect. Reiss focuses on external horn machines, and includes only a couple of pictures of the internal horn machines. If you are looking for a book with lots of details about Victrola models, this is not it.

That's not a problem if you are looking for repair information, since most wind-up machines share the same basic construction. Reiss is a great technical writer, giving you step-by-step instructions in nice readable English. He covers both mechanical repairs (such as rebuilding the reproducer or fixing a broken spring) and cosmetic repairs. I really liked his tips for cleaning the finish and repairing blemishes and dings.

In summary, if you own a talking machine and want to fix it or spruce it up, this book is a critical resource. If you are shopping for a Victrola, this is not the book for you. I take that back. I would have shopped much more intelligently for my first Victrola if I had read this book first. Just changed the rating from 4 to 5!

The Compleat Talking Machine is not only a great resource for people interested in restoring old phonographs, it's also a good read -- Eric comes across as a real person with a sense of humor. He keeps his repair information and instructions general for the most part -- you may need to interpolate his instructions depending on the model of phono you have. Read carefully!

An excellent reference with great bibliography -but one warning - it focuses strongly on "table" model phonographs - has few pictures of upright floor cabinets. However it led me to buy a number of additional references to identify British machines.

I am a great fan of technical how-to books, and this is one of the most informative, well written books on the subject of phonograph restoration that there is. It covers disc phonographs, as well as cylinder phonographs. It covers too many topics to relate here. You will be impressed.

Although I am a technical consultant who spends most of my time in billable consulting roles, one of my collateral duties is mentoring our multi-national company's US sales force and providing supporting materials. Until I read this book I was burning the candle at both ends - by day consulting, and by night developing cold calling scripts and dispensing advice on how to get into accounts. Thanks to this book I now have my nights free because this book is a ready reference for our sales force (all of whom were technical consultants who found themselves in the uncharted and uncertain territory of sales).

What makes this book so special is that it covers all key elements of sales, from cold calling to closing and follow-up. In particular, the scripted approach to making calls, and the process and procedures that encompass how to overcome objections, probe and listen, reenergize stalls and close and follow-up are critical success factors to any sales cycle. I especially liked the script outlines, which helped our sales team overcome major sources of anxiety, as well as provide a straightforward approach to making the first contact and further penetrating target accounts.

If you are in sales, regardless of your experience, you'll find something of value in this outstanding book. If you're new to sales this book can serve as your compass and skill building resource. If you're a sales manager, this book will get your new sales professionals quickly up-to-speed with proven techniques.

For those who are sell professional services, I also recommend "Building Professional Services" by Thomas E. Lah, Steve O'Connor and Mitchel Peterson. That book provides strategy and process that dovetails nicely with this book's skills and techniques.

Professor Ullman has discovered one of those universal truths that few notice, but when you read about, you say, "Of course!" This is it: It's not the steps taken in any process, but the decision to take the steps, that determines the outcome.

So it makes sense to get comfortable with the stuff of decisions--especially since we always seem to have to make them with information that is incomplete, uncertain, often inconsistent--and certainly evolving. Ullman explains how to do this, in a style that is easy to understand and put to work.

Bad New: the book is missing the answer key to the Creative Intelligence Profile, which is the heart and value of the book rendering the profile useless. Too bad interesting tool. Doug Eikermann's completely original novel is the likes of which we rarely see in this day and age. He writes in the tradition of Edgar Allen Poe -- although this tale has its share of humor -- and leads the reader into realms we have rarely explored before. I really liked the originality of this book, as well as Mr. Eikermann's bold language choices. When is his next novel coming out? I can't wait.

I was fascinated by not only the unusal subject of this book but by the descriptive words and fabulous imagination that described Bernard's limited life. This book made me wonder what I would think about if I was in a similar restrictive situation. I'm sure God and prayer and past deeds would enter my mind but never in such a wonderfully detailed and creatively visualized manner as Mr. Eikermann's book expresses.

I have just finished Doug's first novel and found it to be a book that makes you think about subjects we seem to avoid, consciously or otherwise. I am sure we have all had fears of being paralyzed for life and the torment and helplessness that it would subject us to. Doug makes us rethink about God, about prayer, and about how we lead our lives and the consequences we face in the next life. I have never read a book written from this point of view and on this topic. It is refreshing to be surprised in life. I say, "Well done, Doug. Write another one while the ink is hot!"
