    This book has a lot of good little tidbits from a successful and experienced teacher. Some of it might seem like no brainers, but there is no way I could have known all of this stuff before going into the classroom.

    This book was wonderful. It is short, I finished it in one afternoon, but the way the information was presented was excellent. Each tip is concise but thoughtful. If you are looking for help in one particular area, open the chapter, read through it in 10-30 minutes, and you'll be inspired.

    This is the best book I've seen for all levels of teachers. Most of the new teacher books are geared for elementary teachers, yet this is full of great ideas and helpful hints for secondary teachers too. It's been very helpful in my first year as a high school teacher. It is full of ideas to help one prepare for all areas of planning and preparation for that first year. I would recommend it to all new teachers.

    This is without a doubt the most useful book a teacher, both new and experienced, can have! It is filled with wisdom from a woman who clearly has a passion for teaching and boy is it contagious!Every tip is told in a style I can relate to, with humor and years of experience behind it. I may not have survived my first year of teaching without my "bible" by my side. And now, after several years in the "force" I still re-read it for inspiration and a quick pick-me-up. Thank you Renee Rosenblum-Lowden for creating such a user-friendly, practical, supportive and direct guide/book to help so many teachers like me! And thank you for making a difference in my life!

    This a really good read. The authors begin from the premise that organizations are now more than ever forced to operate in a climate of change. Their capacity for transformation is therefore increasingly essential for their survival. The authors outline seven strategies for achieving such a transformation: coercion, persuasive communication, participation, structural rearrangement, role modelling, extrinsic rewards and expectancy.

    The different chapters are presented and organised in a readily accessible style, and their argument has a powerful intuitive appeal because of the way it resonates with many of our commonplace, day-to-day experiences of organisational culture and change.

    If the book has a weakness it is one common to this genre - namely that it deals much more effectively with what should be done than how it should be done. I find their seven strategies much more useful as a diagnostic or descriptive tool - helping to understand change efforts as merely one of several possible approaches - rather than as a prescriptive blueprint for how change can be implemented.

    I cannot agree with the two previous reviewers. Being a PhD student in design, I have troubles understanding the content and I am confused as to what disciplines or viewpoints are the authors taking (design management, product design, design philosophy, engineering design, self-help ???) when writing the book.

    There are lots of instances where the authors are just dropping words without context (complexity, emergence, teleology, etc.) For example, in the second chapter, the authors define what is "true, real and ideal" without discussing the philosophical implications these terms introduced. The book appears to have a lots of unjustifiable claims. The references do not seem to be complete and many important design thinking/philosophy readings are missing. Another issue is that the book contains lots of models and diagrams (70+ figs) which cannot be justified (maybe just for visualization).

    I don't think it is an introduction to the design way. It can serve as a general non-fiction reading but certainly fail to describe or explain the design way.

    This is an important book. The authors build upon a concept of design I learned from C.West Churchman. The show how the complex processes unfold. Mostly, they tell us there is a new way to think, when trying to make change.

    I recommentd this book to decision makers, business and governement, local, national and international studetns and others concerned with change.

    It is a book of our times.

                              I have two issues with this book: First, the information is far too basic to be of use to anyone with even minimal restaurant and/or marketing experience. For instance, the authors use highlight boxes to define ultra-basic terms like "discount pricing" (even the definitions are obvious: "pricing ... to generate more customer traffic.")
                              The second problem I have is that the authors and publisher misrepresent what this book is about. If you look at the chapter titles, this book is nothing more than a simplistic how-to-open-a-restaurant book - yet they are selling it as a marketing guide for owners and managers.
                              Here's some examples of chapter titles - Does this sound like an oversimplified start-up guide?
                              Chapter 1: What am I getting in to?
                              Chapter 2: Location: Where am I going to put his place?
                              Chapter 4: Who are my customers?
                              Chapter 5: Menu Development
                              Chapter 6: How much do I charge for this stuff?
                              Unless you have zero business know-how and absolutely no restaurant experience this is DEFINITELY a book not to waste your money on.
