The Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal introduce the 2001 Index of Economic Freedom.

Now in its seventh edition, the Index measures how well 155 countries score on a list of 50 independent variables divided into 10 broad factors of economic freedom.

The higher the score on a factor, the greater the level of government interference and the less economic freedom a country enjoys. The 50 variables are grouped into the following categories: banking and finance, capital flows and foreign investment, monetary policy, fiscal burden of government, trade policy, wages and prices, government intervention in the economy, property rights, regulation, and black-market activity.

New to the 2001 edition includes a foreward by Robert Bartley, editor of The Wall Street Journal, who offers an overview of this year's economic events and a reflection on the importance of Nobel Prize economist Robert Mundell's work in creating "the current trend toward freer economies around the world." This year's edition also contains a chapter by Mary O'Grady of The Wall Street Journal on how free trade flows improve every participating country's economic well being. In another new chapter, John Hulsman, Gerald P. O'Driscoll, Jr., and Denise H. Froning of The Heritage Foundation explain the central role that a new Free Trade Association can play in achieving free trade and open borders.

Economic freedom may or may not be the way to spiritual or political happiness, but it certainly seems that it's one of the keys to economic development. Although it's difficult to prove once and for all precisely what economic environments are best for countries, this series attempts to get at the keys. I also believe that if they were to change their opinions on a measure or two, they would have no hesitancy to revise or amend their criteria. Whatever flaw their analyses have, it is a monumental effort they put together each year, and at the very least it's a benchmark for people to debate about. There's information and opinion in here that you can't get easily from anywhere else at this price...

For those that prefer alternative ways of thinking about the world, or have competing models to try, this can set up a good basis for comparison. I use the country scores in this volume to influence my own personal investing strategy.

    I've been using so many resources to study for the NMTA (New Mexico Teacher Assessment) Teacher Competency. A teacher at my school lent me her book. Thank GOODness! This book goes into detail about pretty much everything that the study guide suggests to study for the NMTA. It puts the other resources I've been using to shame. It is SUCH a relief to find this book since I'm taking the test next week. I've been taking practice tests and this book has filled in the blanks of what I need to know. It has details and case studies so is completely relevant to the essay questions on the NMTA. It also offers online support. I highly recommend this book~!

    I feel that I need to give this book a review because no one has as of yet. The reviews that are here are on the service of amazon and not on the text itself.

    This book is very well written and organized. Yes it is expensive, but well worth the money. I don't usually keep text books, but this is definately a keeper. The text outlines as explains the major theories that are used in eduacation today and there historys. Each theory by each theorists make sense in how they were developed when you look at how each of them were raised. After giving you a strong foundation in the theories, the book leads you through various classroom management ideas as well as ways on how to construct more effective lessons.

    A must by for anyone seeking to become a better teacher!

    I waited almost 3 weeks for this text book. Then, instead of shipping it to me, they refunded my money. Do not buy from here if you want your book in a reasonable amount of time.

    I never recieved this book or the money back for it I was told that the book was a fifth additon not a sixth so I chose not to recieve the book, however I was never issued a return.

        This book is a quality textbook. However, if it is not used directly in your program then it will serve as an excellent reference book for the field of school psychology. The book is presented in three parts. Part one covers the student, Part two covers the learning process and part three covers classroom processes.

        For this reader the most interesting section of the book is the one on learning. Some of the topics covered in the learning section are:
        1. Behaviorist views of learning
        2. Cognitive learning theory
        3. Social cognitive theory
        4. Cognitive views of learning
        5. Information processing

        Eggen & Kauchak do an excellent work in presenting the latest research information, internet technology (CD included) bibliography, in learning and teachning. I'm glad to have used it as a textbook for a doctoral work, because the leads were easily attainable. No one should discuss the dynamics of education without reading this book.

                  A great book. It uses clear exmples to help you understand the different faces of conflict in the workplace. Kritek then gives ideas, insight, and pathways of moving beyond the conflict toward a productive workplace. It helped me greatly.

                  This book is the single most helpful resource for assisting nurses to deal with interpersonal conflict that is inherent in their places of work today. It provides practical exercises interwoven with real nursing stories and occurrences that allow individuals to personalize their approaches to addressing conflict with others. It provides the reader with the opportunity to reframe conflict and conflict management in a way that allows for resolution. A great read!

                  Usually I read a book because I'm interested in the subject matter. Unfortunately the author seems to think that I'm reading the book because I'm interested in HER. Big difference.

                  Everything in this book seems to be about the author: her opinions; her stories; her realizations; her points of view. In some way, all books are a bit like this, but usually authors learn how to put themselves and their egos in the background, and write about the SUBJECT from their personal point of view. This author doesn't do that... it's about HER, and her struggles with the subject materials.

                  It's similar to sitting at the very back of a theatre. The folk up front are watching the show, but you are watching the audience watching the show. The back of the theatre, unfortunately, is where Ms. Kritek places us.

                  I had a strong sense of the author using the book as a venue for complaint, rather than an exploration of the intricate dynamics of negotiation.

                      John's book is a wonderful guide for anyone in business. Not only does it present a different way of doing business, but it also provides suggestions about living life on a higher plane. His book combines the wisdom of A Course in Miracles, The Artist's Way, 12 Steps, Wayne Dyer, The Four Agreements, and other spiritual guides, with his own experiences in the business world. The result is a blueprint for starting and running a values-based business. When I read it I felt inspired spiritually as well as grounded in strength and reality. I have recently left the "security" of teaching in public schools to start my own business. I am making new choices in my life based on this book. John's book is truly an inspiration and a book I will read more than once. Thank you, John!

                      Loved MIRACLES AT WORK by John A. Adams, a self-taught entrepreneur who built
                      a $3.5 million cleaning company after being fired as an
                      air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration.

                      He then sold this business in 1996 to follow his real passion
                      of helping others by writing this book and beginning Life Without
                      Limits, a Connecticut-based business development company . . . he
                      now travels throughout the country sharing his message that you
                      should "Remember . . . always expect miracles because . . .
                      something wonderful is about to happen!"

                      My only complaint with the book is its subtitle: BUILDING YOUR
                      BUSINESS FROM THE SOUL UP . . . it implies that this is
                      primarily to be read by those looking to begin a business, and
                      methinks that it is so much more than that . . . I see it is a self-help
                      book that will inspire anybody seeking to fulfill his or her potential.

                      While there are many useful business examples, I found there were
                      even more valuable tidbits taken from Adams' life . . . I was inspired
                      by how he was able to get past his bad times and not let them get
                      him down . . . also, I liked how he learned from virtually every
                      experience he has encountered.

                      Among the many insights that I gained from reading MIRACLES AT
                      WORK were the following:

                      * Ask yourself whether your "Crazymaker" [a term coined by Julia
                      Cameron in THE ARTIST'S WAY] have not helped you, in some way,
                      to become a better individual. Mine have. Think about those in your
                      life against whom you hold a grudge. Then release yourself from the
                      burden of resentment and anger you carry by forgiving them. Then
                      begin a process of self-forgiveness and start to enjoy a feeling of
                      liberation. "Not so easy?" Okay, don't forgive them--bless them,
                      as Pope John Paul did, as he faced his would-be assassin in his
                      prison cell. The Pontiff knows that the power of forgiveness lies in
                      releasing your heart to God by seeing the goodness in every human being.

                      * When Admiral Hyman Rickover was asked about his climb from
                      obscurity to Chief Naval Officer in charge of nuclear operations, he
                      simply pointed to those in great need, the imprisoned, the homeless,
                      the poor, and said, "There, but for the grace of God, go I." We are
                      blessed to be in a place where we are building our own business. That
                      is Grace. Grace also comes into our lives by helping others.

                      * Love is the most powerful energy in the universe--much greater than
                      all the destructive force our egos could hope to muster. All these
                      Principles and Practices depend upon love. It is the starting point,
                      the meaning and purpose for being and the solution to our most
                      pressing problems.

                      Am amazing thing occurs when you give love. Because it follows
                      the spiritual laws of the universe rather than the dictates of this
                      finite world, it increases. The more you give away, the more you
                      have to give.

                      John Adams has not only written an important book -- he has written something inspiring which is also a lot of fun to read. As a magazine editor, I'm deluged with books and getting "important, inspiring and fun" in one volume is no easy undertaking.

                            As you may be able to infer from the arrangement of the chapters, this is quite a ragtag piecemeal work that fails to give you any total solution or professional perspective to your CRM problems. The information and layout within individual chapters are okay, and a reader can learn a lot of jargons like ACD automatic all distribution and IVR interactive voice response. However, unique insights and copyable frameworks are rare. If you are satisfied of turning yourself from an outsider reader to a psuedo practitioner in the field, it's fine. For those aspire to become CRM professionals, I am obliged to tell you that there are far better alternatives on Amazon.
