Fantastic Book..........2007-07-26

I bought this book in preparation for the SAT. The book contains 400 great vocab words. It groups words with similar definitions, and contains several helpful activities after you review the words.

The first review activity is sentence completion. This is exactly like you would find on the actual SAT, and it helps to provide a greater level of understanding of the words.

The second review activity is a paragraph, and you must fill in the words using only the context clues of the paragraph. This is very helpful because on the SAT, you can use these skills to help find the correct answer, and eliminate false answers.

The last review activity is a matching section. This is good for just reinforcing your understanding of the definitions of each vocab word.

Overall, this is a great book for reviewing essential SAT vocab words. It even provides some SAT level practice problems with these vocab words. Great book.

If you're taking a course that uses this book and program, drop it now and look for one that doesn't. It is a DOS based program and the book is basically a dry manual that supports it.

The simulation appears to be available only in a DOS version. This makes it very cumbersome to install and use.

A top selling business strategy simulation for academia.......1999-09-28

This is one of the best selling simulations for use in senior level business strategy and global strategy courses. The book that is listed is the STUDENT MANUAL for the course. The instructor will have the software for the simulation. This is not a stand-alone product but must be administered by the insturctor in the course. This book would be the same book as purchased in the college bookstore.

Student book without necessary simulation software........1999-05-20

Although it's not obvious from the book's contents, "Corporation, A Global Business Simulation" is a course consisting of simulation software, an instructor's manual, and the student book -- what is sold here is just the student book. Contrary to what is claimed, you can do the exercises but have no idea what outcome results from the values you choose. The course sounds like it would be very interesting, but there is no information anywhere in the student book on how to obtain the remaining materials. Don't buy this book unless you either have access to the other course materials or are planning on taking the course somewhere.

There are also the mouths of hell, Satan and the damned, and a hirsute "wild woman" rescuing a child from a curiously lamb-like dragon. All in all, it's a mesmerizing trip through five chapters: Biblical Scenes; Saints, Rites, and Rituals; Royalty, Pastimes, and Professions; Flora and Fauna; and The Supernatural, with a short essay to introduce each one. This is a great book to give as a gift or use as a visitor's guide to the Morgan Library, as the editors have provided thorough captions, an index to the illustrations, and a short but carefully chosen bibliography (which includes Roger S. Wieck's Painted Prayers: The Book of Hours in Medieval and Renaissance Art, a larger look, so to speak, at one particularly beautiful type of illuminated work in the Morgan Library's collection). Be warned that some readers may need to take a magnifier to these minuscule, detailed pages, which teem with brilliant colors, vividly drawn decorations, and scenes that range from the bizarrely imaginative to the pastoral and serene. --Peggy Moorman

Excellent Little Find!.......2006-08-03

I was so pleased when this arrived. I had no idea that so much could be packed into so little space. Excellent quality photos, great detail, and the information on the original size of each manuscript is priceless! I'm in a historical recreation society and I can tell you this will go with me to every scribal and illumination event I go to.

A wealth of good stuff in a small package.......2001-10-17

This is one of my favorite illumination books. Being a practicing illuminator, I need photos much more than I need lengthy discussions, historical analyses, elaborate provenance notes, etc. They have to be color photos and they have to be large enough, and at a high enough resolution, that I can learn something from them--and maybe even copy an initial, a diapering pattern, a bit of the border, or more.

This book satisfies all these criteria. In fact, the only thing I dislike about this book is the fact that it's so small, it's really hard to keep open while I paint from it. REALLY hard, because if you get large and heavy enough items to hold both sides down, inevitably the items obscure parts of the page you are painting from!

Its size can be an advantage, though. I purchased this at the National Gallery in Washington, on a midday jaunt during a conference, then went back for the next conference presentation. When the speaker turned out to be droningly boring, I brought out this tiny book and paged through it inconspicuously under the table. Could I have done that with Janet Backhouse's monumental work? I think not...;)

The selections are wonderful, and they're usefully broken down into sections based on content--excellent when you need to find a quick animal or floral image for a border, a rendering of a king or queen, or a picture of a dragon or other supernatural being. Not so excellent when you need to find an example of, say, a late 1400's eastern French book of hours (there are many, just not in any kind of chronological or geographical order). But then, there are other resources that do that. This book is interesting for its variety, its excellent reproductions, and its well-selected and unusual miniatures.

An Exemplar for the keen-eyed!.......2001-09-28

Excellent reproduction of a number of styles, with reasonable commentary. Very valuable for me as a newbie, to provide a sense of medieval style and composition. The size is at once very handy and very frustrating.

Ok! So You Like Illuminated Manuscripts........2001-02-12

This book is good, not great. Its to small and many of the illistrations are too small,and hard to see. But for the money its worth it. They have many other books that are a bit better than this one. Here is one that is very good 'Masterpieces of the J.Paul Getty Museum Illuminated Manuscripts'. This book is awesome with easy to read text and wonderful pictures. Happy Reading.

Best of small books w/lots of pictures.......1998-11-24

Best book I've seen that is this small and this well loaded. If you do this style of art and you want a good book to fit in the nooks & crannies of your art box, this works really well. Many different styles. The only downside is that the large original image is shrunk to fit on the page. Thus if you use it as a source, you must be familiar with the style and not use it as a reference to learning that style.

I read this book a number of years ago and I keep coming back to it because of its terrific message.
The book is layed out on a day-to-day format with short chapters that helped me to overcome difficulties and strengthen what I need to work on. Perfect for reading first thing in the morning.
After the first time I read this book, many of my friends asked me what I had done with myself because I had changed so much. Very positive and very empowering.
Look for the 6-tape audio cassette program too. It's fantastic. Great for the car.

6 years ago I bought this book and up to now it never loses its flavor. It is filled with down to earth sage advice coming from an author who have been there in the assembly line factory. It focuses on the salaried workers and at the same for those aiming at the corporate ladder. Compared to other self-help books, I think this is one of the best I have bought. It is always on my bag everyday going to work to remind me when work becomes a joyless compulsion. Dennis Waitley & Reni Witt are among the few I regard as favorite self-help writers. They are warm and are able to emphatize on your work situation. You will sense it as you go through the book. They are really concerned to help you improve. I will share this to my child when he is ready.

Asian noodles demystified.......2004-07-27

At last, a cookbook that takes the mystery out of Asian noodles. Not only does it provide an explanation of the various types of noodles, but also what types of dishes these noodles are typically found in.

But better still are the sauces you prepare for the noodles. The depth of flavor that you create in your own kitchen is amazing. You'll never want to order out again. Heck, in the time it would take for you to call your local Asian delivery place and then wait for delivery, you can prepare dishes that exceed the flavor and freshness of delivery. REALLY! But the best part about the sauces is that they are not heavy nor syrupy sweet. You will experience reipces from light, subtle flavors to those bold and an undertone of heat. If I can prepare these dishes, then so can you. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Just stock up on a few basic sauce ingredients such as mirin, sake, hot chili sauce, rice wine vinegar, and you are set. Great tasting Asian noodle dishes are easily within your reach.

The one area you will spend some time is in the prep work. But that is limited to just slicing/dicing the various ingredients of the particular recipe. Once you begin putting stuff in your wok/skillet, your meal is just minutes away.

Awesome but I still have one complaint.......2001-07-20

This is a great cookbook and organized extremley well with awesome recipes. I was just disappointed because there are absolutely NO pictures of any of the recipes. For me, it is important to have pictures of completed dishes at least so I can visually prepare myself for making the dish.

If pictures aren't important to you, then this is the *best* Asian noodle book around (I have looked thru many others and this one covers it all!)

This paper considers whether the first-best level of firm-specific human capital investment is attained by the use of stock option plans for workers and stock offers in acquisitions even though workers are threatened with the possibility of a divestiture and acquisition. We show that the first-best level of investment is achieved by a stock option plan with a positive exercise price for workers conditional on the event of a divestiture. We also suggest that, under certain conditions, a stock offer in acquisition can resolve a collusion problem between the target firm (TF) and its workers.
