The original edition, published in August 1995, challenges current teacher evaluation and school practice. The book discusses stages of teacher choice, teacher responsibilities for evaluation, and suggests ways for teachers to become more involved and in control of their own evaluation. Combining information and techniques from his academic studies and evaluation experiences, Peterson presents a coherent, field-tested set of new practices for teacher evaluation. The revised edition adds new chapters on the role of the principal in changed teacher evaluation, how districts can transition from current practice to improved practices, the use of national standards, developments in using pupil achievement data, and puts a new emphasis on developing sociologically. The Internet as a resource for local development is encouraged (67 web sites are recommended as starting points). New resources for local development have been added from extensive field-testing and analysis; forms have been improved and district-level principles have been assembled. Substantial material has been added on the topic of responding to deficient teacher practice. Finally, the research literature has been augmented.

This book does a nice job of motivating you toward your leadership aspirations, but many times I felt like I was back in Jr. High school and was listening to my teacher tell me stories of when he was growing up. With all the author's experience and interaction with such high-profile icons of this generation (and a few past), I would think he could have transferred his leadership skills in a more adult and interesting way. Overall, the book was OK.

The Business Playbook: Leadership Lessons from the World of Sports by Brandon Steiner does a tremendous job of explaining why it is important for one to set goals, as well as telling you what steps you can take to help you in achieving your goals. The book is well written, with a good amount of actual sports stories featuring some of the biggest names in sports. One downside is that many of the athletes discussed in the book play or played on teams based in New York. I would assume that is because the Steiner's business is located in New York and therefore these are the athletes he has the most contact with. The stories that he does tell about the athletes, however, are closely related to the lessons he is trying to teach in his book. Seeing the success that these athletes have had is a great motivator for the reader to try to accomplish much the same success in business instead of on a playing field.

The book is broken down into chapters, and each chapter essentially highlights a different principle that one can use on the road to success. Within each chapter every principle is broken down even further into various sub-topics. Although some of the sub-topics may not flow together as well as they could have, this style made the book very easy to read as well as understand. None of the information in the book is too complicated for the average reader to comprehend, and all of the information is explained very well.

By associating success in business with success in sports Steiner does a tremendous job in offering a book that is fun to read as well as a book that offers real lessons in business and leadership. Everyone who is at least in part a fan of sports and works in a business field should take the time to read this motivational book. By reading this book you will be able to tie aspects of sports into your business career in ways you may have never even felt were possible.

I was lucky enough to read this book after the CEO of my company asked me to purchase it and write him up a quick synopis. It was a quick but powerful read and by the end of that same weekend my senses were ablaze with newly kindled hope and inspiration!

Brandon Steiner has a great sense of motivational ability, and unlike some who give advice with an heir of condescension, he has an amazing ability to strike a chord with the reader through highly assimilable, digestible prose and imagery. He presents a theme and then illustrates it anecdotally. In his line of business one can only imagine the stories you'd have after working so closely with such colorful clientele. At the end of each chapter there is a summary and a closing paragraph or two which ties all the subject matter together.

The book is divided into key principles: "Start with a road map; Find your niche; Wake up nervous!; Know your purpose; Go the extra mile; You never know; Get focused!; Nothing changes if nothing changes; It's not what happens, it's what you do with what happens; and finally, See success as a habit." I saw so many points therein which had immediate relevance to my life and my future goals.

I am very glad to have read "The Business Playbook" and strongly advocate to anyone who reads this to pick yourself up a copy. You'll be glad you did.

The Business Playbook is hands down the best motivational book I have ever read! Anyone who reads this book will take at least one valuable lesson that they could use in both their business and personal life! I thought this book was very intuitive. It really made think about my future goals, and how I should approach them. It is a good reading for anybody who wants to be successful in what ever they want to do. Being that I am a big sports fan I really appreciated the sport figures and events that brandon used as analogies. It should be required reading for buisness students and for anybody who wants to move forward in life. Great book!

This was my first purchase through Amazon and I am very pleased with the promptness of the service. The condition of the Mariner's Compass book by Judy Mathieson is excellent and I am very happy to actually own it. I have taken it from our quilters library but always had to return it before I could do much with it. Now that I own it I can take my time, study it, and finally decide on which project to do. Thank you to the family in California for their help in getting this into the mail so quickly.

AMAZING.......2004-12-16

I have developed an affinity for Mariner's Compass quilts, due in part to the quilts shown in this book. I kept renewing it in the library, and finally bought it.

I also purchased WedgeworksII - Mariner's Compass in conjunction with this book, but will be returning this small patternbook which exclusively uses piecing from enclosed templates(not as accurate or beautiful as the quilts in Mathieson's book). Actually, Mathieson does offer template piecing as an option, and she even reviews a freezer paper method. I look forward also to drafting my own mariner's compasses with help of chapter 2. I only wish there were more quilts for inspiration - even though there are plenty, I can't get enough!

Excellent Primer and MUST have book.......2002-04-19

Here the author stretches to show you repeatedly how to break down what appears to be a difficult project into a very approachable project. This book is both a technique book as well as a project book. You CAN complete this project from all that is provided in this book.

Take the time to study the examples and question why those choices were made. This book has volumes to teach you as well as aid your growth as an accomplished quilter. There is such joy in mastering points and excelling in this art of quilting and this book is a marvelous practical gift to yourself.

I have taken a Mariner's Compass class from Judy, and I have both her MC books. They are great! I highly recommend them.

This books covers the lotwith regard to designing a Mariner's Compass quilt. The author uses examples of her own work as well as others. There are excellent instructions on how to create your own quilt using a variety of piecing techniques. The examples given cover a range of colour themes. One of my favourite books.

This is one of them books that reminds you that anyone can be a writer. I like the way Hardaway put this book together... but don't pay full price.

A comic masterpiece!.......1999-06-11

The reader from Knoxville, TN is an idiot. Sorry to ruin your hoop dreams, but Stacy Wall is a man. You can tell this by his picture in the back inside flap (where it says he has webbed feet). So your "sorry ladies" line was pretty dumb, Chucko. And that garbage scene you wrote was about as funny as a case of head lice.

That aside, this book was a riot. Do not overlook a word on any page. If there are any copies of The Case of the Purloined Pancakes still in publication, I want to find them! I need more LP!

Funny, but as Penny would say, "You missed a free throw".......1999-04-28

Stacey did a nice job of writing about the funniness of Little Penny and some funny things about puppets in general, but clearly she doesn't know "squat" about basketball. (No offense, ladies, but time on the hardcourt is necessary to understand the "mind" of the player).

While this book is hilarious, it needs some scenes like this:

Penny: Lil' Penny, I am exhausted.

Lil Penny: Why?

Penny: I was driving the lane for the full 48 last night, then Bigs hit the J to put us in OT!

Lil Penny: No way!

Penny: 12 more minutes of PT, then I was off to the l-room to ice it. But check out my stats: 12, 12 and 8 trays. Butter!

Overall, good book, but get some REAL stuff in it, then it would be great. Start by hanging around the court and take it from there.

Hilarious!.......1999-04-17

I'm not even a huge basketball fan, but you don't have to be to enjoy this book! I am most impressed with the photography, but the text is pretty funny, too. The whole concept just cracked me up. I mean, who ever heard of a book starting on the inside flap? It's a quick read and I recommend it for a good laugh.

Multiple Criteria Decision Making and its Applications to Economic Problems ties Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM)/Multiple Objective Optimization (MO) and economics together. It describes how MCDM methods (goal programming) can be used in economics.
The volume consists of two parts. Part One of the book introduces the MCDM approaches. This first part, comprising Chapters 1-5, is basically an overview of MCDM methods that can most likely be used to address a wide range of economic problems. Readers looking for an in-depth discussion of multi-criteria analysis can grasp and become acquainted with the initial MCDM tools, language and definitions.
Part Two, which comprises Chapters 6-8, focuses on the theoretical core of the book. Thus in Chapter 6 an economic meaning is given to several key concepts on MCDM, such as ideal point, distance function, etc. It illustrates how Compromise Programming (CP) can support the standard premise of utility optimisation in economics as well as how it is capable of approximating the standard utility optimum when the decision-makers' preferences are incompletely specified. Chapter 7 deals entirely with production analysis. The main characteristic throughout the Chapter refers to a standard joint production scenario, analysed from the point of view of MCDM schemes. Chapter 8 focuses on the utility specification problem in the n-arguments space within a risk aversion context. A link between Arrows' risk aversion coefficient and CP utility permits this task.
The book is intended for postgraduate students and researchers in economics with an OR/MS orientation or in OR/MS with an economic orientation. In short, it attempts to fruitfully link economics and MCDM.

In this paper, a new fuzzy multiple attribute decision-making (FMADM) method, which is suitable for multiple attributive group decision making (GDM) problems in fuzzy environment, is proposed to deal with the problem of ranking and selection of alternatives. Since the subjectivity, imprecision and vagueness in the estimates of a performance rating enter into multiple attribute decision-making (MADM) problems, fuzzy set theory provides a mathematical framework for modelling vagueness and imprecision. In the proposed approach, an attribute based aggregation technique for heterogeneous group of experts is employed and used for dealing with fuzzy opinion aggregation for the subjective attributes of the decision problem. The propulsion/manoeuvring system selection as a real case study is used to demonstrate the versatility and potential of the proposed method for solving fuzzy multiple attributive group decision-making problems. The proposed method is a generalised model, which can be applied to great variety of practical problems encountered in the naval architecture from propulsion/manoeuvring system selection to warship requirements definition.

The majority of Americans receive their health insurance for themselves and their families through their job. The employee pays a portion of the premium but the employer chooses the type and amount of coverage offered as well as administers the plan. This book addresses the question: Who really pays for employer-arranged health insurance? Are premiums paid from company profits or do employees bear the cost through lower wages? Pauly suggests that this confusion has complicated the debate on public policy and needs to be alleviated.

This work first shows how views taken by business and political leaders during the Clinton health reform proposal debate were affected by this confusion and did not follow the economic view. It then provides a novel, intuitive, but comprehensive outline of the economic theory that bears on this question. Empirical evidence consistent with the economic view is summarized, and the implications of the view for some important issues in health policy and in practical health benefits management are discussed in detail.

Health Benefits at Work explores the political economy of health policy when the stakeholders have an uncertain and possibly incorrect understanding of their actual interests. For the benefits specialist, it provides an accessible treatment of the complex and often counterintuitive economics of health benefits.
