                      This book provides an excellent overview of the fundamentals of media planning. It examines the five basic components of a media plan: (1)background review, (2)statement of objectives, (3target market defintion, (4)media mix, and (5)overall scheduling considerations. For example, it will show how the product life cycle, marketing or promotion plans would affect the media plan, or how reach and frequency would affect the media objectives etc. This book is straightforward but packed with practical advice. It also ends with 3 case studies which demonstrate how the theories of a media plan are actually put into action. Overall, it is a highly readable, useful, and pragmatic guide to media planning.

Because we're not talking about little blips on a profit and loss statement in a poxy sector of some niche industry.

                              Business has far more an impact on our daily lives than government or politics. About half of the world's biggest economies are now corporations. From Enron's attempt to bring back the eighties with their excessive greed to Vodafone's loosing millions (that didn't actually exist in the first place) - Gibbons rips into the antics of these once trusted companies. So is it all doom and gloom? Are we destined for failure because of the frolicking these companies get up to - at our expense!? Are there any lessons or optimistic quick turn-around plans of action that Gibbons can share with us? Not really. But Warning: May Contain Nuts makes for some highly entertaining reading. And for the clever among us the lessons are implied. Just don't be daft.

                              A set of 48 essays loosely concerned with the rights and wrongs of big business. It is sometimes hilarious, deliberately vulgar and occasionally tedious. There are overtones of Bill Bryson and even of Douglas Adams, but Gibbons can not sustain their standard. The valid points that the author makes are, for my taste, rather heavy-handed. It is a reasonable example of business humor with an edge, by a former CEO of a large corporation.
