      The book opens with two foundation chapters. The first examines the concept of student competence and reviews the historical and political contexts in which assessment takes place. The second reviews best practices in carrying out assessment, including the important roles of faculty development and assessment leadership.

      Case studies then describe how faculty in eight professionally oriented disciplines have developed and practiced assessment on their campuses and the lessons these faculty offer to colleagues in their own and other disciplines. The book concludes with chapters on the use of authentic assessment within several disciplines on a single university campus; on the British quality assurance movement; and with a review of the lessons, issues, and challenges that are common across disciplines.

      The stories and examples presented in this book covering issues as diverse as faculty and student involvement, the role of outside stakeholders, and balancing external guidance and institutional autonomy–will provide immediate practical guidance for faculty and administrators active in assessment regardless of their discipline.

              I am a stitch directory addict and I own quite a few. I purchased this on a whim without much research. This directory was disappointing in that it is primarily a motif directory with very few stitches. This book is small and the charts are difficult to read. The motifs were not exciting nor presented in a consistent manner. I think the author tried to cover too many things in such a small book and thus it is skimpy on fair isle and some of the motif categories.

              The how to knit section is pretty good but I don't need that information and other books that present the same information have better illustrations/pictures.

              I plan to donate the copy I purchased to our local library - perhaps it will be useful to someone else.

                Learning from Professor Mark Perlman was one of the best things happened to me when I was still a student. Since Professor Perlman had stopped lecturing on this topic ( in fact I was among those who attended his last series of lectures ), this book, along with an earlier publication in 1998, serves as an alternative to his interesting and thought provoking lectures filled with first-hand information about economics and economists. The course was an eye-opener for me and I highly recommend this book which covers the materials Professor Perlman put together for us.

                Anyone who took Dr. Mark Perlman's courses on the history of economic thoughts will admires why he knows so much about the development of economics. His lecture notes are just like pieces of maps that lead his students into the Treasure Island of Knowledge. I am very happy to know that Mark and Dr. McCann have published their books. I would like to share my experiences with everyone who read the books.

Most International Marketing books have a separate chapter for each of the environments (legal and regulatory, political, Business Customs, etc) and then they launch into a discussion of marketing management for global markets. However, Johansson only has a separate chapter on culture and then he integrates the rest of the environment discussions throughout the text and where appropriate. This too is a distinct feature of the text.

                                German E-commerce is well-off; an average growth in revenue of 17% in the first half of 2005 implies much better market conditions than the traditional retail business has experienced. Nevertheless numerous online shops are struggling with increasing competition and shop shutdowns appear as frequent as openings. Consequently it is the objective of most online shops to motivate consumers to purchase. Due to the fact that many online shops fail to accomplish this objective, this study intends to investigate which characteristics online shops have to provide in order be chosen by consumers. To investigate this issue the author has conducted a survey with two research questions: - What characteristics of online shops are potential choice criteria from the consumer's perspective? - Which choice criteria are the most fundamental success factors? The author first provides a detailed overview about the internet economy, its particpants and its different business models. After that the different parts of the survey are explained, the results are analyzed and a conclusion is drawn on the basis of the analysis in order to answer the research questions. This book is adressed to operators of online shops, web-designers, programmers, consultants, decision makers of E-commerce businesses and anybody who wants to generate sales with a website.

                                                    The numerous advances in mathematical programming have opened up new insights about sensitivity analysis. The paradigm `What if...?' question is no longer the only question of interest. Often, we want to know `Why...?' and `Why not...?' Such questions were not analyzed in the early years of mathematical programming to the same extent that they are now, and we have not only expanded our thinking about `post-optimal analysis', but also about `solution analysis', even if the solution obtained is not optimal.
                                                    Therefore, it is now time to examine all the recent advances on sensitivity analysis and parametric programming. This book combines the origins of sensitivity analysis with the state of the art. It covers much of the traditional approaches with a modern perspective, and shows recent results using the optimal partition approach, stemming from interior methods, for both linear and quadratic programming. It examines the special case of network models. It presents a neglected topic, qualitative sensitivity analysis, as well as elements of mixed integer programming and gives a modern perspective of nonlinear programming. It provides recent advances in multi-criteria mathematical programming and also describes the state-of-the-art in stochastic programming. It covers recent advances in understanding redundancy in quadratic programs, considers an approach to diagnosing infeasibility in linear and nonlinear programs, and gives an overview of sensitivity analysis for fuzzy mathematical programming.
