This work is excellent for anyone seeking to deal with contract
matters between yourself and an employer or purchaser of your
services. The work lists negotiation strategies, trends, your
value, fear of turnover, the benefits component, salary history
and components of salary, why a job opens, performance
measurement, characteristics of successful applicants,
career pathing and a whole host of important employment-related
areas. The section on non-competing agreements details why
you should ask for more salary or severance pay.
This book would be very helpful in focussing your attention
on key areas of inquiry with a perspective employer or
contractor.

This book is extremely long on what, but strangely short on how. So if your aim is to learn about ISO 9001:2000, by all means, this is the book for you. But if you're interested in implementation, keep looking.

Wonderful intro & unique approach to documentation.......2002-03-26

I like this book for two reasons: (1) it steps you through what it takes to implement a quality system based on ISO 9001:2000, and (2) it shows how to develop your quality manual and documentation using Information Mapping techniques.

First, the approach to ISO 9001:2000. The author clearly explains what ISO 9001 is and what to expect in the certification process. If you're new to ISO 9001 (or 9002 or 9003) then the comparison in Chapter 2 between the 1994 and 2000 versions can be safely skipped, but if your organization is already certified, or wish to move from 9002 or 9003 to 9001, then the explanation of the differences is extremely helpful. Chapters 3 through 8 are standard fare that you would expect to find in any book about ISO 9000-series. What sets this book apart is the clear writing and ease of finding information. If you've read other books on the subject you know how dry they can be. This book is as lively as the subject matter permits (believe me, *any* book on the subject is going to be ponderous reading).

Chapter 9, Transition Planning, stands out as among the most valuable in the book (or any book about ISO 9000 in my opinion) because it covers the make-of-break issues for achieving certification. As an Information Mapping practitioner I especially liked the discussion of documentation considerations. I've long been convinced that Information Mapping and quality documentation should be integrated. With respect to ISO 9001 there has been much reluctance on the part of companies pursuing registration to stray from the rather ugly standard format of quality documentation. I hope this book changes that because the approach that the author proposes will add value to the quality manual by making it easy to read by all levels in your company, while keeping it 'assessor friendly' for certification and re-certification purposes.

I really liked the author's "Napoleon's Glance" book so I picked this up too. In my opinion this book is quietly revolutionary about how change in society happens and it is providing new insight into the concept of "expert intuition". It is important new reading for anyone interested in business, especially consultants like myself in business strategy. I used to work in nonprofits too and it is very important for people in that world as well. It is totally different style of thinking that Michael Porter's stuff on strategy, and much more useful!!

This book is great for the small business owner; offering practical, easy to implement advertising ideas in a clear and concise manner.

Andrew's style makes for a particular personal style, that gives the reader confidence in his knowledge gained from years of experience in small business.

In my opinion every business can benefit from some or all the ideas presented in this book. In addition many of the suggestions are non-expensive and straight forward to take on board.

The question to ask yourself before buying this book is "do you want to buy a book that is almost completely referenced by reports dated prior to its first printing..1993" It appears that when the book was reprinted in 2000, very little information was revised.

In recent years the People's Republic of China has experienced rapid economic growth, brought about in large measure by dramatic increases in foreign trade and investment. China's adoption of an `open door' policy in the late 1970s also opened up its banking market to foreigners. As a result, there has been a sharp rise in the number of disputes between Chinese sovereign borrowers and foreign banks, making the availability of appropriate dispute resolution mechanisms for foreign banks a critical factor in the expansion of international finance in China. This book recognizes the need for a unique international dispute forum that addresses intricate political and diplomatic considerations and issues of state sovereignty, issues that typically arise from disputes regarding state contracts between national governments and private foreign parties. The work addresses several problematic private and public international law issues in sovereign debt litigation, including the state immunity theory, the act of state doctrine, forum non conveniens, and the difficulty in enforcing foreign judgments. It offers a comprehensive survey of the many choices open to a foreign bank operator in planning a dispute resolution strategy in China, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of each process, and examining a series of case studies by way of illustration. The author argues that the autonomy of each party in international arbitration circumvents potential cultural and conceptual difficulties and offers a flexible, mutually acceptable means of conflict resolution which in some circumstances can prove more effective than litigation. There are a number of books on project management on the market; but if only one comprehensive text were to be selected, it should be Paul C. Dinsmore and Jeannette Cabanis-Brewin's AMA HANDBOOK OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT - it's been a recommended pick before and its expanded second edition updates with new material for both experienced and new project managers. This edition offers new material on the growing profession of project management, portfolio management, and team work, showing managers how to set and achieve goals, design flexible, effective teams, move from project concept to finished product, and much more. this is one of the best books on log cabin quilts i've seen--no, it doesn't have basic quilting instruction, but the subtitle says it all "the ultimate creative guide to the most popular and versatile pattern.'

every variation of the log cabin structure is explored (at least i can't think of any other shapes). from the familiar square and pineapple forms to hexagon and triangle and more, there are enough examples to inspire any quilter for years.

the photographed quilts are both authentic antiques and contemporary quilts. many of the 19th and early 20th century quilts look utterly modern.

there's a short but thorough section on the history of the log cabin quilt. then there are sections devoted to the various block shapes.
each of these sections has line drawings of the blocks, some tinted to show pattern. the final section has page on page of graphed alternate settings for the blocks. these are in shades of black and grey. any of these could be photocopied and colored.

i skipped the section dealing with sewing a block. i'm happy with paper piecing, and i don't mind dealing with a large quilt on my domestic machine (well, not enough to send it out to be quilted, anyway!), so i wasn't interested in the authors' suggestions. this book was originally published in great britain, and using fabric as a foundation for piecing is still popular there. the authors also included instructions for quilting as you go.

the reasons for four and not five stars: 1) no paper piecing templates. i know i can draw my own, but i'd rather spend the time and energy sewing. for the basic log cabin and pineapple variations, i can always search my other books or my magazines; for the trapazuid and pentagon and others, i'm on my own. and 2) not much attention is given to uneven log cabin/pineapple.

aside from those two minor drawbacks, this is a wonderful book, with years' worth of potential quilts.

we can hear a few dialogues,. there is one with rfk and on the 14 tracks we can hear young caroline.

Pleasant but not outstanding.......2001-06-04

As a twenty-something, I really don't know much about John or Robert Kennedy other than the vague "Camelot" fantasies tossed around. I acquired this book as part of my recent appetite for understanding JFK/RFK.

I found it to be a light-weight overview of the major periods of JFK's life, along with some information on RFK and Jackie. While it revealed a few new things I hadn't heard before, this book is really of interest primarily as a coffee table book for ocassional perusal, and not for study. It's a great combination of stories you will have heard and pictures you have already seen.

The accompanying CD, however, is particularly interesting in what it reveals about JFK the man and his way of being. Overall, I enjoyed it.
