This book is WORTHLESS! Not only is it written in a nauseatingly bad style but the book doesn't tell you anything you can't find by doing a little Internet research. That's what I was looking for and this book failed to provide it. Save your money and search the web instead.

A Great Way To Prepare For The ASVAB........2001-06-08

It is nice to have a book that not only gives you an advantage on the written test, but gives you one on the computerized test also. Not all MEPS give the test in written form anymore and it is nice to be able to practice on the test in computer form so it is not a surprise to you when you get there. The CD Rom was simple to install and easy to use. The only negative response about this book/CD that I can think of is that on the CD Rom, it repeats the same questions over and over again, just in a different order. A greater diversity in questions would be much more beneficial when striving for that high composite ASVAB score. After all, the higher the composite score, the better chance of getting what you want out of the military.

Beyond Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling, too........2003-09-03

Most management texts do an adequate job of describing the latest innovations, but with rare exceptions they do so in a framework first suggested in 1916 by Henri Fayol. Very few managers nowadays allocate specific effort to planning, organizing, leading and controlling, but that's the way most management texts are still divided up.

This book is a refreshing exception. The authors organize their ideas around three managerial roles:

Assuring continuous improvement
Organizing to improve cross-functional systems
Enhancing customer value.

There are sections on employee involvement and organizational learning, with lots of examples throughout citing firms such as Saturn, Xerox and Federal Express. The style is skeptical and readable.

One shortcoming: Having a high-quality hiring process is your most important success factor. For that, ignore the advice in this book and look at Lou Adler's "Hire with Your Head."

In all other respects, it's a great book.

Too much paper for incomplete concepts.......1998-08-12

The essays in this volume explore the phenomenon of foreign industrial recruitment in terms of the experience of six mid-American states--Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee--in attracting Japanese automobile assembly facilities. This experience and the choice of plant sites by Mazda, Honda, Fuji-Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Toyota, and Nissan was invariably determined by multi-state negotiations and escalating state government incentive packages. To understand this phenomenon and its consequences, the essays in this volume sketch its comparative historical, economic, and legal dimensions; examine the dynamics of Japanese automobile investment in terms of the six site-specific studies; and then place these industrial recruitment experiences within a wider framework of federal-state relations and the prospects for a national industrial policy. Part I illuminates the background to and the comparative setting for the mid-American competition for Japanese automobile plants in the era of international corporate flight. Part II carefully probes the dynamics of development in terms of six site-specific studies. Great book - but a bit outdated.......2007-10-22

This book introduces us into the IBM view on data warehousing. It gives the reader an architectural overview on data warehousing. Moreover, it gives ample insight into project management of a data warehouse project. Amongst the subjects, one gets an idea on the roles within a project and how long a data warehouse project might take. Fortunately, this book is NOT a sales leaflet; instead it gives a balanced overview. Often real life situations are sketched to stress a certain point. The authors clearly know how data warehousing is undertaken in real life. The authors also show the IBM toolset. As this set is recently renewed (after the writing of the book) this part is somewhat outdated.

As the care taker and primary business user of the world's largest customer data warehouse I was astounded at the naivete of the author. This document is more of sales manual for IBM product rather than a fair revue of current technology, practices and successful data mining and data warehouse implementation. There is little to no discussion on the need of having skilled persons to manipulate the data direct in the warehouse as opposed to having to export data to some black box product like intelligent miner. The author fails to disclose that with most very large applications (one terabyte plus) that traditional tools won't work due to the need to export large volumes of data out of the warehouse environment. This book is wrong on many fronts.

This book has value information about Business Intelligence architecture, it has comprehensive overview about Data Warehouse arquitecture and business analytics such as OLAP, Data Mining, Spatial analysis. And then explain deeply IBM technology and products for BI. The author uses a good and clear languaje, providing an outstanding look at business intelligence. If you are a Business Intelligence professional i recommend this book and also if you are using IBM products.
