Book Description
The most comprehensive directory of the craft brewing industry available today.
Book Description
The tenth edition contains 165 quantitative questions collected from actual job interviews in investment banking, investment management, and options trading. The interviewers use the same questions year-after-year and here they are---with solutions! These questions come from all types of interviews (corporate finance, sales and trading, quant research, etc), but they are especially likely in quantitative capital markets job interviews. The questions come from all levels of interviews (undergrad, MBA, PhD), but they are especially likely if you have, or almost have, an MS or MBA. The latest edition includes over 120 non-quantitative actual interview questions, and a new section on interview technique---based partly on Dr. Crack's experiences interviewing candidates for the world's largest institutional asset manager. Dr. Crack has a PhD from MIT. He has won many teaching awards and has publications in the top academic, practitioner, and teaching journals in finance. He has degrees in Mathematics/Statistics, Finance, and Financial Economics and a diploma in Accounting/Finance. Dr. Crack taught at the university level for 20 years including four years as a front line teaching assistant for MBA students at MIT. He recently headed a quantitative active equity research team at the world's largest institutional money manager.

Customer Reviews:
very helpful.......2007-10-02
I think this book is very useful even just from the perspective of finding something interesting to do when you get bored. Not mention it indeed provides a lot of relevant information about how to answer the interview quesionts.
Decent.......2007-07-08
This is a decent book. I only looked at a couple of chapters on analytical and statistics problems. Some of the problems marked "hard" were quite interesting and challenging. Quite a few of the problems were trivial and repetitive though. The solutions are generally well written, though sometimes a bit too verbose (for my taste).
Overall, not a bad investment if you are preparing for job interviews which may expect you to crack a few puzzles.
Great interview prep. book.......2007-04-23
This is a great book preparing for an interview, with lots of logic puzzles, stat. and derivatives questions, solid interview advice and some funny stories. The logic questions range from fairly straightforward and simple to more advanced, and I think most people will at least find a couple of them challenging.
Great fun!
Nice book.......2007-02-27
I used this book to prepare for some Wall Street interviews, and I found the questions on Black-Scholes pretty useful to orient my study of Mathematical Finance (my background is in Theoretical Physics, so I used this book to get an idea of the kind of things I would have to learn to work as a Quant). The puzzles and brain teasers in the book were quite straightforward, but I guess one cannot ask too difficult a question in an interview, so they may be in keeping with the kind of questions one typically gets asked.
Interesting book.......2007-01-18
Some of the problems I solved in high school in Russia, some are new and interesting. Some are deep finance oriented and require significant background.
Would be 5 if had a hard cover

Book Description
A top TPM consultant in Japan, Kunio Shirose describes the problems that TPM group leaders are likely to experience and the improvements in quality and vast cost savings you should expect to achieve. In this non-technical overview of TPM, he incorporates cartoons and graphics to convey the hands-on leadership issues of TPM implementation. Case studies and realistic examples reinforce Shirose's ideas on training and managing equipment operators in the care of their equipment.
Customer Reviews:
Accessible, simple and thorough.......2000-01-18
This book is an everyday desktop reader for all of us involved in TPM implementation. It helps a very simplified understanding of the process and focuses on the most important aspect: Training! Empowerment through education is the goal often missed. This book really helps in this process.

Customer Reviews:
Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
A very useful guide to Scotch. It goes into detail of the various areas that the fine liquid comes from, and the differences between them.
You get tasting information, and it also serves as a nice long list of things to try and get a taste of. A tasting session and scoring is detailed at the end.
Nice format--needs work.......2007-06-08
One of the strengths if this book is a very pleasing format that uses the subjects themselves as decorative illustrations. A picture here is worth more than a thousand words. The introductory matter is informative and well presented. Unfortunately a glaring error present in a former edition is perpetuated in the current volume. Laphroaig is labeled as a northern highland scotch, when it is clearly labeled and well known as coming from a distillery on the southern coast of Islay. The fact that this mistake appears in another edition makes one wonder whether poor editing or poor research is at root. In all, a nice little volume. However, if you can only get one refernece book on the topic, get Michael Jackson's.
An ideal reference and guide.......2007-03-05
Knowledgeably compiled and expertly organized by Daniel Lerner, "Single Malt And Scotch Whisky" is an informed and informative 199-page reference guide to more than two hundred brands and varieties of scotch whisky. This superbly illustrated, newly revised and expanded addition covers the varieties, strength, aroma, flavor, and distinguishing characteristics of each cited brand. Comprehensive, 'reader friendly', and easily portable, readers will begin with an informative introductory chapter on 'How to Use this Book', and then move on to learn about the distilling process, what constitutes Scotch Whiskey, labels, and more. Enhanced with the inclusion of a glossary, a resource guide, and a comprehensive index, "Single Malt And Scotch Whiskey" is clearly an ideal reference and guide which is very highly recommended for novice whiskey drinkers, restauranteurs, barkeeps, and collectors.
A good book for novices; little interest for aficionados.......1998-11-11
Daniel Lerner's primer on Scotch whisky (no "e" allowed!) is a useful book primarily for those with no knowledge of the subject- as Mr. Lerner admits he himself was when he embarked on this project. As a single-malt enthusiast but by no means an expert, I bought this book for its promised survey of and tasting notes on more than 100 whiskies. I regret to say that I was disappointed.
The greatest liability of the book is in the tasting notes, which are often vague, frequently simplistic, and rarely informative. Part of this is doubtless due to the rather scattershot tasting methods employed, described in an appendix by the author; however, if you're looking for detailed information on which whiskies match your personal tastes, this is not the book to buy.
For the beginner, perhaps, this manual, with its glossy color photography and useful general overview of the process of whisky production, is a decent buy; next time, however, I'll spend more money to get a more detailed book.
Great book for naming your Scottish Terrier puppy................1998-08-24
Excellent information and background on the scotch whiskey. They all sounded delicious. However, I could not find any description of the Glenfidicch.

Right on the mark.......2002-05-08
Iain Ellwood hits the mark with this book. A large amount of information is succintly and clearly organized, showing his obvious expertise in all aspects of branding. The case studies he presents are well thought out and show not only the scope of his experience, but the spectrum of aspects the subject of branding covers.
I have read or perused many books on branding over the years and this one is DEFINITELY a must-have for anyone in the industry.
Book of the Week, Marketing magazine.......2001-06-04
Iain Ellwood is a renowned speaker on branding issues and I was interested in finding out what his new book (Kogan Page £22,50) had to say on branding. From the beginning I found myself agreeing with Iain. Yes, the terms `brand' and `branding' have become overused, and as a consequence devalued.
Iain re-assesses all the essential components of branding management, describing them with clarity. He uses numerous business models and `over 100 techniques' (so it says on the front cover), to demonstrate how to develop brand value in four main areas: communication, equity, definition and strategy.
I particularly liked the structure of the book. It turns out to be not only and enthralling read but an effective reference book as well. The contents are divided under the headings and then subdivided into chapters, providing a step-by-step analysis of the branding process.
The diversity of case studies he uses makes the book relevant to anyone involved in branding. From straightforward theory to a re-evaluation of management concepts, the book offers enough information to interest even the most experienced brand manager, while being comprehensive enough to teach students with no previous branding experience. The Essential Brand Book is exactly what it says - essential!
Rob Gray is managing director at Mercier Gray
An absolute must.......2000-11-22
Having read many excellent books on 'branding' over the years, this book is a 'must'.
Iain Ellwood provides the reader with over 100 business models and techniques for building brand value in four key areas: brand communication; brand definition; brand equity and brand strategy.
The book is comprehensive in content and well structured for ease of use - each chapter includes an introduction, the author's objectives for the chapter, content and a summary. In addition, the author has masterfully brought the content to life through the use of visual illustrations and lively case studies.
Essential for anyone who is interested or involved in the management and communication of brands.

STOP Slip and Fall Accidents!
ASIN: 1566706599 |
Book Description
The average cost of a worker fall is $12,470, increasing to over $26,000 when lost production and other costs are factored in. At a profit margin of 10%, more than $250,000 of revenue needs to be generated to cover a single slip/fall loss. Costs are higher for falls sustained by the public. Slip and Fall Prevention: A Practical Handbook responds by providing safety engineers and claims professionals with a one-stop guide to preventing and responding to slip and falls. This overview provides specific guidelines for facility design, effective management control programs, and test methods for pedestrian safety and slip resistance. In addition to exposure analysis of high-risk businesses, situations, and locations, the handbook also describes procedures for reporting, investigating, and mitigating incidents. Equipped with the information in this reference, businesses will be prepared to identify and manage factors contributing to slip and falls, reducing exposure to these frequent and costly losses
Customer Reviews:
Great resource .......2006-10-28
This text is a valuable resource for those interested in the science of flooring and tribometry. The scope of topics is comprehensive and I especially appreciated the discussion of flooring types, cleaning methods, and maintenance in Chapter Six.
Remarkably clear and comprehensive.......2006-09-20
Mr. DiPilla's book is delightfully clear, concise and comprehensive. It educates the reader from the scope of slips and falls issues, to common procedures for recognizing and mitigating walkway hazards, to management control methods and accident investigation/claims mitigation. The text and illustrations read in a simple, common-sense way, showing the truth of Voltaire's comment that "common sense isn't so common."
Another noteworthy feature of this book are the remarkably comprehensive, annotated references to slip resistance principles, flooring, footwear and slip-resistance measurement techniques, both within the U. S. and internationally. The annotated listings of U. S. and international standards and guidelines in themselves provide the best collection of references I've seen on this complex subject. Remarkable.
David C. Underwood, Ph. D.
The Best Slip and Fall Handbook.......2006-02-08
One might expect that evaluating the slip resistance of a walking surface is a straightforward procedure. Surely building codes contain specifications for slip resistant walkway surfaces and indicate procedures to evaluate available surfaces. You will not find these specifications or procedures in building codes and you will be frustrated and confused as you seek guidance. Slip and fall Prevention by Steven Dipilla is the best summary of up to date industry standards and test methods needed to perform meaningful evaluations. If you need guidance this should be the reference you purchase.
Excellent reference for the safety professional.......2005-10-04
This book is a comprehensive reference on slips and falls and "must have" for every safety professional reference library. Very useful hazard recognition and prevention guidelines is offered for indoor and outdoor slips and falls from floors, stairs and ramps. In addition, this is one of the best references I've seen on slip-resistance measurement guidelines and tribology standards.
Review by Larry.......2005-06-21
Slip and Fall Prevention by Steven Di Pilla, though probably written primarily for professionals in the field of safety and risk management, can be invaluable to anyone who owns or manages physical assets.
It seems to me that Mr. Di Pilla has dealt with every possible manifestation of the subject. I was particularly impressed with his advice regarding claim mitigation. This handbook belongs on practically everyone's bookshelf.

Organization Modeling: Innovative Architectures for the 21st Century.......2007-01-18
Hola soy estudiante de la Maestria en Administracion de TI, y este libro me parecio excelente ya que abarca diferentes aspectos organizacioneles con un punto de vista tecnolgico
Creative and innovative advanced book.......2003-12-26
An excellent framework for learning about how to balance (organizational) mission, vision, business, strategy, organizational learning, processes, and culture. Truly visionary book that elucidates concepts concerning processes, learning, knowledge, human, and strategies. I found the book to be an excellent framework for understanding the world of organizations.
I think that almost all MBA and graduate business students will deepen their knowledge and skills by thouroughly exploring this book. Even, Mintzburg has applied some of these authors concepts!
Looking foward to using this book.......2003-12-26
I am a graduate MIS student who hadc to buy this book for my course in Organizational Design. I started reading this book and found it to be very rich and innovative in terms of what an organization is and how to design the organization using an organization modeling (OM) framework. I could not believe what
vision and insight the authors had into the world of organizations. Some of the fascinating and useful ideas that they have invented are about the organizational knowledgeworld, how to balance vision, mission, business, strategy, tools, organiational molecules which can be used ot represent the formal and creative aspects of organizational domains, (early and late) knowledge binding (when, where and by whom is knowledge applied to a process, etc. This book is concept rich, deep, purposeful, and relative to my future as an oganizatinal strategist. Numerous good tables, diagrams, and illustrations of their ideas and practical applications.
Truly a pioneering book. Good job Stevens profs.
not really helpful.......2003-12-22
I thought I had hit a goldmine but not so.
It's too abstract, too boring, I miss examples.
Models should be helpful, not a goal into itself. Maybe this has some illusionary appeal to managerial types.
I gladly refer to Dilbert's comics, if you want something helpful.
Review of text/reference-- Organization Modeling: Innovative Architectures for the 21st Century.......2003-12-13
Our book is about organizational architecture and design. The intended audience includes managers and IT professionals, and graduate students of management and MIS. In addition, this book may serve as a reference for research topics - it has become popular as a resource for Master's and Ph.D. students. One hundred years ago Frederick Winslow Taylor engineered work with engineering disciplines and thus created the 20th century design discipline of Scientific Management. In this book we architect work with modeling concepts and thus create the 21st century design practice of Organization Modeling. The analytical disciplines we choose to employ are those associated with the software engineering field: contracts and object-orientation. Our central innovation is the concept of an organization molecule. An organization molecule is the building block of design. It is a managed collection of well known management concepts or domains, such as business process, information, culture, knowledge, structure, strategy, etc. - one molecule for each type of organizational domain or management concept. We may use a molecule to design a domain and create an architecture-in-the-small. Similarly, we may align several molecules into organizational patterns, creating an architecture-in-the-large. Such patterns are at the heart of an organization's competitive distinctiveness. Organization Modeling may be seen as an MIS as well as an organizational design discipline. The industrial era is giving way to the knowledge era. The industrial era organization is characterized by information processing and therefore emphasizes data creators, routine work and a machine culture. In contrast, the knowledge organization is characterized by learning, and therefore emphasizes knowledge creators, nonroutine work, and innovative cultures. The knowledge organization requires an architecture where the three domains of data, information and knowledge are clearly distinguished - designing knowledge work requires a careful intermingling of all three. Hence, we devote a great deal of attention to the architectural models underlying all three domains and how they are interrelated. This brings forth fresh design constructs such as a knowledge contract, and a whole new approach to the meaning of a business system. Finally, we advance a core organizational architecture for a successful 21st century organization, one that emphasizes culture, business processes, data, information, knowledge, people, and learning. The authors are members of the faculty at Stevens Institute of Technology. They teach in the executive information management programs at such firms as AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Solomon Smith Barney, PaineWebber, Prudential, and Pearson Education, among others.
