Customer Reviews:
I should have listened ... the book is a waste of money.......2001-10-17
When I read the reviews of other readers, I thought some of the comments could not be true. But after buying it myself, I totally agree with everyone's rating. The book is a waste of money. Especially when the authors keep emphasizing that this book is the only one of its kind on the market. The AACSB is supposed to be an informative and reliable source. If I were the AACSB, I would withdraw as soon as possible because this guide is not worth even a $1.
Advertising Supplement.......2001-09-28
If you are interested in the university programs that paid to have themselves profiled in this book, then it might have some value to you. Otherwise, there was very little information on the majority of doctoral programs currently being offered in the United States. A big disappointment coming from an agency that would have complete information.
Too Few Programs Included.......2001-03-21
After paying over twenty dollars for a copy, I wish I could find more information on more AACSB-accredited doctoral programs in this book. Towards the end of the book, there is a list of all such programs. However, detailed information is only available for a small subset. I do not think my money was well spent.
What a disappointment!.......2000-07-14
I ordered this guide for the "40 in-depth profiles" of the most important schools, but found this guide completely missing the mark. There's no ranking whatsoever of the "top" schools. Also, if you look at the faculty lists for the schools that they *do* profile, you'll find that the top schools hire faculty from a very select 10-14 schools; a large portion of these schools are omitted from the "40 in-depth interviews" that this book promises. Nothing on Harvard, MIT, Northwestern, Carnegie-Mellon, Yale, Columbia, Berkeley, London School of Economics...these are the key schools where the faculty of the leading institutions are hired from. Yet there are plenty of write-ups on second- and third-tier schools...no offense, but if you want to discuss Doctoral programs, leaving out the top schools gives your "guide" virtually no credibility, despite your nod to the masses who aren't necessarily targeting the elitist institutions. One last point, some professional layout for the guide is in order. It looks like it was desktop published by someone on their home computer. Not to mention written by someone who is not familiar with the subject matter. The last point to add is that this claims to be "the only comprehensive guide to US doctoral business and management programs in print." Frankly, if the standards remain this low, it won't be the only guide for long.

At Last!!!.......2001-09-29
For too many years I have searched for a practical, user friendly approach to business management that incorporates a variety of useful, yet appropriate and functional templates which we could utilize to maximize our operations systems. This edition does just that by coherently illustrating it's points in an understandable way. Moreover, this efficient approach maximizes the readers time, which as we all know is of the utmost importance in the business world. In short, the book gives you what you want and does so clearly, quickly and with as as little nonsense as possible. Maybe a first in the world of business management journals.
I'm really impressed!.......2001-06-12
My CEO asked me to investigate BPR, and I knew absolutely nothing about it! Thankfully I found BPR Wizdom. I was worried that I would be in over my head, but the authors took what could be potentially dry information, and presented it in a very accessible way. I'm now very confident that our company can start our own BPR project. With the economy in an "iffy" situation, I think that conducting a BPR project and streamlining our business is exactly what we need to do!
A Must-Read for Top Execs.......2000-06-07
An excellent book which has been wonderfully written with the top executive in mind. It provided us with the insight and guidance to reengineer our manufacturing organization from the top down. Our organization adopted the BPR Wizdom Three-ringed philosophy, and change has never been more easy to deal with. We encourage our suppliers and customers to read this book as well. We envision a supply chain that will consistently keep our bleeding edge products and services at the throats of our competition. Thank you much BPR Wizdom.
Helpfull but......................2000-04-05
While the text did have good overall information, the format and quality left much to be desired. I found the presentation somewhat disjointed and the text was full of grammatical and spelling errors. There are two versions of the book. The one sold here comes with a CD that has two viewer applets and a PowerPoint promotional slideshow. If you want the copy that contains a CD that actually has the Methodology framework on it, you must buy the other version. The CD included with this version is useless.
Easy to read and entertaining.......2000-01-14
This book takes what can be dry reading and makes it entertaining and easy to relate to. This is a very practical guide to BPR. It assisted me and my managers to examine and achieve our organizational goals. I am using this book to guide me from start to finish.

Book Description
E-commerce is the hot topic of the day! But few companies are actually doing it--and even fewer are doing it profitably. Why is there so much talk and so little action? According to Peter Cohan, celebrated author of Net Profit and The Technology Leaders, there are two reasons: 1. Fear of change 2. Lack of knowledge about the technology.
E-PROFIT is a definitive, up-to-the-millisecond guide to all the cultural and technical challenges that stand in the way of making high profits through e-commerce. In specific detail, this example-packed book presents:
* The highest-payoff e-commerce applications (and the 10 principles that characterize the best) * How companies are using e-commerce today to dramatically improve their competitive position * The most significant organizational challenges, and how to overcome them * How to define the role of senior management in designing e-commerce architecture, selecting vendors, negotiating savvy contracts, and monitoring the implementation * How winning companies manage their e-commerce strategy to quickly enjoy its benefits--while simultaneously adapting their systems to the new demands of technology and customers.
Sales through e-commerce are expected to grow to 1.2 trillion by 2002. Companies that don't catch on quickly may never be able to catch up. E-PROFIT provides "how-to" and "why-to" guidance for managers who want to stop talking about e-commerce and start profiting from it!
Customer Reviews:
A worthwhile read.......2006-01-26
The business world is rife with wild forecasting about the possibilities of utilizing Internet technology. But how do you identify ways to use the internet in your business? How can you use e-commerce to create real competitive advantage for your organization? Peter S. Cohan provides a seven-step evaluation plan to map out costs and benefits of an e-project for your company, as well as tips for involving the CEO and management. Additionally, he has guidelines for designing an architecture and evaluating E-Commerce suppliers.
Seven steps for your E-Commerce evaluation:
1. Diagram you current business process.
2. Measure the time and cost of your current process.
3. Map out the e-engineered process.
4. Estimate the time and cost of the e-engineered process.
5. Develop a plan for the e-engineering project.
6. Calculate the cost of implementing the e-engineering project including time and infrastructure investments.
7. Prepare an integrated cash-flow analysis of the e-engineering project.
Highly Recommended!.......2001-05-24
David Cohan's book is too useful to read in linear progression. Each chapter is a self-contained unit composed of an e-commerce problem, a case study analyzing how one company attempted to solve the problem, and a series of principles for effective problem solving. The book presents all aspects of e-commerce in useful detail, from motivating the reluctant CEO to managing the implementation of an e-commerce project. This book is for senior executives and change leaders, but it is useful to anyone who wants to learn more about the process of designing, developing, and implementing an e-commerce project. Project managers and consultants also will find the book useful because it presents the e-commerce buyer's perspective in straightforward detail. We[...] recommend this book to senior executives, change agents, business managers and students.
this is the real thing.......2000-11-29
i m currently in the midst of implementing a click and mortar set-up and have been scouring the book shelves for a book that gives u a strategic and at the same time realistic roadmap. i hv come across quite a number of books on this - metacapitalism by G Means & David Schneider; Executive's Guide to EBusiness by Deise, E-loyalty, loyalty.com, etc, etc.
I found that most books were either 1) too theoretical and ivory-towerish or 2) too process-oriented (almost a DIY guide). THe first is good for brainstorming and stress-testing your ideas but they are ultimately still at the idea stage. The second type is like having a map for you to explore the amazon jungle (pardon the pun). Sure it's all written in clear type there but what do you want really if u r about to dive in to the jungle? you want to know why you are going in (strategy), you need to have a good roadmap (process/skill-sets) but mostly you want an experienced guy to warn you of the dangers ahead - the pitfalls ... afterall do not forget when amazon, yahoo, ebay, priceline, boo.com debuted, they were the toasts of the theorists. You can never find fault with a theorist, but how much value is there unless you hv been thru it and live to tell. The devil is in the details. Cohan has succeeded in painting an informative wealth of these trenchant realities within the limitations of his well-written book, trenchant because he incorporates the need and analysis for financial returns vis-a-vis strategy and model. His training is in finance (wharton) and comp science/E Eng (MIT/Swarthmore)plus some years of his own consulting so i hv bet my dollars on his book and it has been a well placed bet and read.
OK Synthesis & Structure of e-commerce Reports.......2000-11-25
`e-Profit' is aimed at executives/consultants, to clarify the e-business landscape, learn from others, and embark upon e-business projects.
The lightly referenced, confusingly typeset and verbose chapters span:
++ Part I- Winning The Economic Case for E-Commerce (evidence, financials, and competitive advantage).
++ Part II- Managing the Transition to E-Commerce (senior management, applications evaluation, and leading & sustaining change).
++ Part III- Building E-Commerce Infrastructure (architecture, suppliers, deals, and implementation).
Strengths include: the wide range of secondary source anecdotes and case studies; and the confident style & structuring of materials.
Weaknesses include: 40% redundant words for content; relative lack of useful illustrations/tables; irritating use of fonts/sizes; and superficiality of analysis.
Other alternatives texts in this area include: Deise et al's deep KPMG `E-Business' (ISBN 0471376396); May's technical focus `The Business of E-Commerce' (ISBN 052177698); Hoque's opinionated `E-Enterprise' (ISBN: 052177487X); Siegel's glossy brainstorms in `Futurize Your Enterprize'(0471357634); and Bloor's marketplace spin in `electronic B@zaar' (ISBN185788258X).
Overall, `e-Profit' felt a bit like a draft literature review in need of editing, after which would be a useful look-up resource.
A clear path for company to jump to E-commerce.......2000-11-07
Everybody talks about the potential of E-commerce. E-profit shows how big the impact of this new business model. Many companies that want to jump to e-commerce world often lack of support from the top management. The author clearly shows how many experimental effort from the brave employee can transform almost the part of the company. So at every level implementation of the company that want to shift to e-commerce, this book give a clear model that easily be followed by every company. It also suggest the contingency model of top management support to launch e-commerce business. In short, this book is must have for every company that want to jump to e-commerce but unsure with path to follow...

Christopher Columbus and the Afrikan Holocaust.......2007-02-14
Professor John H. Clark has done a amazing analysis with providing the reader with a clear understanding on how the slave trade and genocides was instituted and systematized into what is now identified as capitalism on a gobal scale. This is a must read for anyone exploring the history of the African American history.
Is an "Afrikan" anything like an African?.......2006-03-03
Just another academic making money with half-truths that suit his prejudiced worldview. The deliberate spelling of "African" as "Afrikan" tells you all you need to know: it's the same as oh-so-worldly college sophomores who spell "America" as "Amerika" to prove they're politically aware after taking that popular "African-American/gay/La Raza/womyn's studies" course on how America is evil because it expects people to work for a living and holds them responsible for the results of their decisions.
Myth Crusher!!!.......2006-02-23
Dr. Clarke has again crushed myths of the Atlantic Slave Trade. The number one myth is "Afrikans are just as much to blame for selling slaves as Europeans". If ANYONE has ever said this to you and you didn't tell them that was a pile of buffalo poo poo, than you need this book! If you agreed with that statement you need this book. Dr. Clarke breaks down our ways back before the trade. And the BIG differences between European & Arab slavery to Afrikan slavery. TUA NTR Dr. Clarke!!! In which 99% of the people don't know how Afrikan slave system worked. And yes where are our memorials? And the true nature of the Atlantic Slave traders is exposed in detail. Also what did Afrikans do when they found out what was REALLY going on? That answer reveals our nature and how beautiful, strong and weak we are. This books hits EVERY corner about the Slave Trade. And crushes alot of myths. Again Dr. Clarke provide a slamming bibliography. That is a library listing by itself! Every child should read this book when starting to learn our history in America. And the strategies used by both sides. I could go on & on, this book is just everything about the subject in one book!
"Where's our Memorial".......2006-01-03
Dr. Clarke presents to us an interesting book that asks the question "Where's our Memorial?" The Jews, Irish and Asians remember what happened to them, but somewhere down the line, we forgot. As Dr. Clarke says this was the biggest crime in history. Europeans set in motion a type of slavery that was inhumane and savagelike.
Another misconception is that the Afrikans, and Natives Europeans encountered were brought "civilization." This couldn't be further from the truth because the European just denounced any culture they didn't understand. What is most interesting as well is 700 years earlier the European was enslaved and brought out of the Dark Ages because of the Moors(Afrikans) and Arabs. The Moors introduced chess, public baths, water systems, 70 universities and brought literacy to the kings and queens of Europe. The same Afrikans they enslaved on the Gold Coast(read the book to understand why it is Gold Coast) had been the ones to birth their enlightenmet. Also Europe(who were the only ones) believed the world was flat in their ignorance. Afrikans already knew this wasn't true based on two voyages. One was with the king of Mali, and the other maybe in the time of Ramesees III. For more on this read They Came before Columbus.
Thank You Dr. Clarke

A 'must read'........1999-11-17
As an aspiring teacher, I wanted many questions answered about the Atlantic Slave Trade. I wanted to know why, how, and 'how come' this happened. Dr. Clarke lays out the foundations and reasoing behind the whole thing. The text was easy to read and it kept me wanting more with each turn of the page. In the future I will require my students to read this book. It is informative and straightforward. A must read for EVERYone... of any ethnic background!
Book Description
The Synchronous Trainer's Survival Guide is a hands-on resource for enhancing your real-time e-learning sessions. If you're new to synchronous training, everything you need to know is right here. If you're a seasoned pro the practical tips, tools, and customizable templates in this book will ensure the success of your online training courses, meetings, and events.
Customer Reviews:
A rare and excellent resource.......2004-12-15
I have been managing a synchronous language learning program for the past two years. When we first started, I wasted a lot of money (and time) on e-learning books which had nothing at all to say about synchronous virtual classrooms. Two years ago, the most anyone had to say about synchronous was that it would be "the wave of the future." I needed practical, tested suggestions for best practice in setting up, preparing for and conducting live classes over the Internet, and these books gave me exactly zero input.
Hofmann's Synchronous Trainer's Survival Guide" is exactly what I needed two years ago. It's sufficiently general to accomodate differences in platform design and functionality, which a focus on best practice in optimizing the enjoyment and learning value of online classes. It's a slim book - you can easily read it in an afternoon, but filled with concise and informative bulletted lists with titles like "Using your voice", "Language tips", "Gauging participation", "Reading participant cues", etc.
Some of our teachers have had trouble making the transition from the traditional classroom to the virtual classroom, and I've been looking for a resource like this to give them pointers, and to let them realize that the frustrations they're experiencing are not unique to them. I'm ordering copies of this book for all of our teachers and I expect that they'll be going back to it again and again.
Just like it's name says - a survival guide!.......2003-12-01
A concise, well written guide to this new medium for training delivery. Simple format, simple language - makes this somewhat scary technological field easy to understand! This book really put my mind at ease. Thank you!

Book Description
This volume grew out of the annual Advertising and Consumer Psychology conference sponsored by the Society for Consumer Psychology. Representing a collection of research from academics in the fields of social psychology, advertising, and marketing, the chapters all focus on discussing existing and needed research to face the challenges of diversity in the next millennium. The contributors are researchers who have pushed the envelope in understanding diversity in advertising, rather than merely relying on theoretical frameworks developed decades ago when the demographics of the population were much different.
This volume provides a vast array of information for academics and practitioners seeking to better understand how individual characteristics impact on the sending, receiving, and processing of communication efforts. It highlights past and current knowledge on diversity in advertising, important questions that have not been addressed satisfactorily in this area, and how current theories can be used to construct better communication plans and message content. The various chapters draw upon existing literature from the fields of psychology, marketing, and related disciplines to amplify understanding and insight into developing effective advertising approaches to reach diverse audiences. This book will contribute to the understanding of the diversity of people, the changing landscape of the U.S., and the need for a more inclusive society.

Book Description
The search for the key to economic growth has proved elusive and contentious. This book uses new empirical evidence to propose an integrated approach for achieving strong industrial and technological capabilities to form the basis for regional and national economic development.
The authors use the experiences of countries in Europe and Latin America to show that socio-technical constituencies play a fundamental role in innovation-based economic development at both a regional and national level. By blending insights from the industrial cluster and national innovation system approaches with the socio-technical constituencies approach, the authors successfully integrate long standing debates such as agency structure and micro-meso-macro analysis. The work is based both on a theoretical effort to build a new framework for economic growth, and on a number of concrete experiences from a number of countries in Europe and Latin America.
Knowledge Flows in National Systems of Innovation will prove essential reading for scholars of innovation, technology and economic development.
