The Genesis of Industrial Capital: A Study of West Riding Wool Textile Industry, c. 1750-1850
Pat Hudson Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0521890896 |
Book Description
This book analyses the sources of finance used in the Yorkshire wool textile sector during a period of rapid expansion, considerable technical change and the gradual transformation from domestic and workshop production to factory industry. Although there has been much recent debate about capital investment proportions and their sources nationally, there is no other study of a region or section capable of testing various hypotheses current in the general literature of the British ‘industrial revolution’. How was capital amassed in proto-industry? How important were merchants in building factories? What role did landowners and the local banking sector? What influence did trade credit and fluctuations in trade credit have on the expansion of productive enterprise? How important was reinvestment and what determined both profitability and the extent to which it was ploughed back into business? The answers to these questions have value for all students of the industrialisation process, whilst the detailed material on Yorkshire is of interest for local study and provides a model of the questions which could be asked in other similar regional studies of the future.

Great Sequel! A must have for Team Building!.......2001-02-24
This is the best series of team building activities that I have seen. I use them to develop teams of supervisors/trainers in a call center. Most of the team building books I found focused on ropes courses and the like. This one focuses on activities that can be done indoors and exercise the mind. The "Updated Team Fitness Test" really helps identify the opportunities that exist within your team.

Physical and Biological Hazards of the Workplace
Manufacturer: Wiley-Interscience ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0471386472 |
Book Description
The first award-winning edition of Peter Wald and Gregg Stave’s Physical and Biological Hazards of the Workplace has become one of the leading references for the practice of occupational and environmental health. During the seven years since the landmark first edition appeared, there have been major revisions of government standards and guidelines for physical agents such as ergonomics, shift work, and electric power, and for biological agents such as tuberculosis and blood-borne pathogens. Now extensively updated and expanded, this book continues to be a practical "how to" reference for health and safety professionals. The text is logically organized for quick reference, with separate sections devoted to physical and biological hazards. Introductory chapters furnish an overview of each broad class of workplace hazard, followed by detailed entries describing specific causes, agents, and organisms.
All recognized sources of physical hazards are discussed, including ergonomic hazards; dangers associated with shift work; extremes of temperature and atmospheric pressure; energy hazards including noise, electricity, infrared and ultraviolet light, lasers, magnetic fields, and microwave and RF exposure; and ionizing radiation. Biological agents are covered in equal depth, from the fundamentals of microbiology and infectious disease to the specific details of organic hazards like wood dust and endotoxins–plus viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, envenomations, and more. The latest research and pharmaceutical technologies and their attendant risks are considered, including recombinant organisms, prions, and malignant cells. This book is organized according to a common format that encompasses all the information health professionals require:
-Occupational setting
-Exposure route and measurement guidelines
-Normal physiology and pathophysiology or pathobiology
-Diagnosis and treatment
-Medical surveillance
-Control and prevention
-OSHA and NIOSH standards and guidelines
The contributors include many of the nation’s leading authorities in occupational and environmental medicine. Drs. Wald and Stave won the Jean Spencer Felton Award for scientific writing in 1995 from the Western Occupational and Environmental Medicine Association for the first edition of Physical and Biological Hazards of the Workplace. The first edition is also on the Core Recommended Reading List from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
With a foreword by Dr. James P. Hughes and extensive references to the broader body of professional literature, this is an indispensable first source of information and guidance for both primary care professionals and occupational health and industrial hygiene specialists. No other single reference addresses the full spectrum of physical and biological workplace hazards. Physical and Biological Hazards of the Workplace covers the subject with unparalleled clarity, precision, and authority.

Physical Hazards of the Workplace (OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH GUIDE SERIES)
Larry R. Collins , and Thomas D. Schneid Manufacturer: CRC ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items: ASIN: 1566703395 |
Book Description
The recognition and control of hazards in the work environment is the cornerstone of every company's safety and health plan. There are dangers in every workplace, especially those devoted to technology, machinery, and potentially hazardous material. Employers and their management teams must understand the regulations that provide for facility safety. The successful implementation of these legal standards is required for the profitable and legitimate management of any business. Physical Hazards of the Workplace addresses environmental and occupational dangers on the factory floor and in the office. The author explores OSHA, DOT and other federal, state, and local regulatory compliance codes. He explains how to implement these regulations for the prevention and minimization of the growing number of hazards found in work environments. The author devotes individual chapters to dangers related to machines, the respiratory system, the circulatory system, confined spaces, chemicals, personnel, cumulative trauma, environmental issues, electricity, noise, fire and explosion, and the risk of falling. One key chapter discusses issues of emergency and disaster preparedness. The useful appendices concisely detail OSHA training requirements, posting standards, and more.
