                Just thought everyone should know that the author of this book, Shaw Livermore, died, at age 80, at 5 AM this morning (Sunday 10/21/07) at his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was retired from the University of Michigan as Professor Emeritus of American History.
                He was my friend and I `ll miss him.

                      Please, if you have a choice of textbooks, do NOT buy this one. I have a feeling the author knows nothing of eCommerce, yet was given 80 references, told to mash them together as non-sensically as possible and fire the result off to the publisher.
                      I've worked in eCommerce for a number of years and this book is a total waste of time and money. Many "industry terms" used do not exist. The author contradicts himself on a number of occasions. Many of the charts and illustrations are good for a laugh. I truly feel sorry for people who have this book as their introduction to eCommerce. You're going to come away with a lot of mangled/antiquated theories, and a bunch of "facts" that are just plain wrong. I'm sorry to say I had to memorize all of this junk in order to get an A in my course. As soon as I handed that exam in, I made a concerted effort to forget everything I read in this text.

                      How on earth is it possible to make even the simplest of theories so complicated? The book is absolutely stuffed with useless words and figures. If the authors did not get paid per word, I am sure they could have written a splendid book with one third of the pages. The price is exorbitant, and what you get for more than a hundred dollars is close to nothing. Do NOT buy this book!

                      I am a full time student in a computing program which believe me, requires reading some boring books, but this one takes the cake. The way it was written simply does not flow. It was the only textbook I have read so far that literally put me to sleep. The content is very repetetive, and features graphs that are truley unintelligable. Skip this book unless you absolutely must purchase it for school.

                            Hoover's Guide to the Top Southern California Companies is a great resource tool for the active sales professional targeting the high-tech and also manufacturing companies in SoCAl. Info. includes contact names, phone numbers, and other vital contact information to find the right person for your product. Sales revenues are given. One nice feature is how they summarize where the company plans to be in the future. A very good source for the "hungry" sales rep.!

                              The book cost $10. With the purchase of the book, you get access to the web site for the discounted price of $5. Tip: Pay the $10 for web site access, buy a spiral note book, and save yourselves $4.

                              The book is nothing more than a list of vocabulary words and definitions on the left side and note taking pages on the right.

                              Still, it is handy to have the topic vocabulary words and place to take notes in one convenient package. If the process, as explained in the book and on the web site, is followed expect radical improvement in your grades and/or a more concrete foundation of knowledge.

                              Although I never ended up taking the test myself, several people advised me to buy this book, which in fact is the recommended textbook listed on the content outline for the ECE Research Methods test. After skimming though it, it appears to cover what is on the test (according to the outline). But get a used copy, unless you want to pay $100+ for a new one.

                              I would highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn more about experimenting in Psychology. Myers and Hansen clearly explain confusing terms and use examples from daily life (when applicable). It is well worth the investment for Psychology majors and can also be enjoyed if you've never had a Psychology course before.

The book very well describes how to adopt and practise the Customer Focus concept, a component of TQM, by using well explained standard steps and real world examples. The best thing about this book, however, is that it has been written with the very common English so that it is not too difficult to understand by those using English as their second language.

                                  I've found this book extremely frustrating. It talks about a lot of things that I'd like to do, but does not tell you how to do them! I give two stars because it's discussions are still informative and provide some insight into portal design and sharepoint's capabilities.

                                  But, what I really needed were practical implementation details, and this book completely fails to deliver in that respect.

                                  The content is generally too "theoretical" to be of any help. It is more suited to a person who is evaluating sharepoint. A person looking for a reference to guide installation/development should look elsewhere. I expected at the very least a consolidation of the material at the MSDN, but I was wrong. The content is very shallow.

                                  I would have given it one star, but the CD contains useful web parts that one can use as templates to in creating your own.

                                  Ok, here's the deal I'm an experienced ASP, office, sql, IIS, exchange developer, digital dashboard. I've been tasked to customize and deploy sharepoint for a fairly large organization. Naturally I felt I needed a book to serve as a guide for the more exotic requirements. Of course I turned to Microsoft. BIG MISTAKE.

                                  This book is long on theory, short on details. Its more of an idea book then a resource kit. Its not for a beginner, because the only thing it goes into any detail is installation. Which means nothing because installation is run by a wizard. So as long as you meet hardware/software specs its a breeze.

                                  There is nothing about even basic customization of the dashboard (which is almost 70% of what an organization will ask for).

                                  Its not for an advanced person, because anyone who has even deployed sharepoint once, or at least worked with a document management tool will be able to work out the theories. What I was looking for was how to implement those theories through sharepoint!

                                  You know it may only satisfy a marketing guy who needed to know in a jiffy what Sharepoint can do, but has no intention of doing it himself.

                                  What you buy is a giant table of contents to the MSDN. There are many chapters that are 4-5 pages long that whet your appetite and then refer to so and so at microsoft.com for details.

                                  I have never seen a book with such terrible code samples. They are pretty lame (basically "hello world" type stuff) and there are NO explanations. Basically "type this, install, and press run". I dont even know why what I typed is useful.

                                  I gave a two stars because the CD came with some neat stuff (mostly better implementations of the web parts installed by default). You can rip these apart to use as templates for your own code, but man your going to have to figure out EVERYTHING by yourself.

                                  So if you really want to learn sharepoint go to MSDN and save your money.
