        For most small manufacturing companies, the selection and completion of orders placed by buyers are closely linked to the load status of their production lines. The decision to accept an order, or the selection of optimal order set, critically depends on the production schedule when orders exceed production capacity. However, production scheduling is mainly performed by human experts, and small companies lack resources to implement such a task. As a result, most small manufacturers suffer from the difficulty to meet due dates or to make proper decision in accepting new orders. To address this problem, this paper develops an automatic agent that selects an optimal set of orders using commonly available Internet technology. The main engine of the selection agent is based on a typical job shop scheduling model, formulating and implementing it as an Integer Program (IP) model. We also translate IP into Genetic Algorithm (GA) to address its NP-hard problem. We conclude with a suggestion for an agent architecture that tackles Web-based order selection problems.

          Description:
          Faster turnaround time of vessels and high berth productivity are paramount factors in container terminals for assuring competitive advantage in the shipping industry. An autonomous decision-making capability in the terminal is vital in achieving the required productivity. Vessel scheduling/berthing system in a container terminal is regarded as a very complex dynamic application in today's business world. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) community has been researching in the field of intelligent (or rational) agents for more than a decade and implementations are found in many commercial applications. The Beliefs, Desires and Intention (BDI) agent architecture is probably the most mature model for many industrial applications in today's context. However, it is not the best agent model for complex applications that must learn and adapt their behaviours in making rational decisions. We propose a new hybrid BDI framework with an intelligent module to overcome the limitations in the generic BDI model. Learning and the adaptability of the environments are assured with the introduction of the Knowledge Acquisition Module (KAM) in the generic BDI architecture in our proposed framework. The dynamic selection of the intention structures has been improved with a trained neural network. The knowledge required to handle vagueness or uncertainty in the environment has been modelled with an Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) in berths. Finally, the benefits and the usability of hybrid BDI model for a vessel berthing application is discussed with experiential results.

                This paper presents a dynamic vehicle routing and scheduling model that incorporates real time information using variable travel times. Dynamic traffic simulation was used to update travel times. The model was applied to a test road network. Results indicated that the total cost decreased by implementing the dynamic vehicle routing and scheduling model with the real time information based on variable travel times compared with that of the forecast model. As well, in many cases total running times of vehicles were also decreased. Therefore, the dynamic vehicle routing and scheduling model will be beneficial for both carriers in reducing total costs and society at large by alleviating traffic congestion.

                          From the favorable reviews, I assumed that this would be an informative book. However, this is not the case. I learned very little in the course of reading the book, and here is why:

                          The laws are obvious. Anyone who has ever been part of a team and given even a little thought as to what elements make a team function well will be unsurprised by the list. The reason that the author says the laws are "indisuptable," is that the laws are so obvious that anyone can see that they seem to generally hold.

                          Don't waste your time with this book. Instead, check out "First, Break all the Rules," which is an innovative work that addresses management issues (including teamwork).

                          As An Executive Coach, Management Team Builder and Leadership Development Trainer I contracted to coach a cost improvement team for six months. This simple book helped the team members (non of them managers) to understand and apply the principles of working as part of a team (which was in essence a task force to recommend change).                               I found hard to find a good book on SAP R3 Sales and Distribution area. I am very satisfied with the contents of this book ; despite this, I would have liked to get also the prospective of the end user as I this book does not cover some -maybe too detailed- aspects of the day to day support work.                               I have used this book over and over as a reference and it is pretty well written and covers all the major topics. You should use this in conjunction with SAP help. This book will give you basic introduction to all topics under SD and it does a pretty decent job of teaching you SD config in SAP. I am an SD functional lead and I recommend this book to all my new team members..

                              This is excellent book and i am very impressed with it's contents, language and quality.

                              Well i am have been working with SAP for last 8 years as a Abap/EDI/ALE resource and decided to take make a shift to functioal side.

                              Started with reading SAP implementation guide and SAP library, also found couple of intresting sites. But the best thing which happened to me was purchasing this book.
                              This book is very well organised and contains all the basic functionality in SD module with some real time examples. It explains both the SD business process flow and more importantly the configuration.

                              I would highly recommend this book.

The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) in the zone beneath the water table can be a virtually permanent source of groundwater contamination that cannot be remediated by currently available technologies. Cosolvent flushing is a new technology that has the potential to remediate these sites and could pose a solution to the problem of DNAPL source areas. A computer model was developed to determine the cost and time to remediate an aquifer using cosolvent flushing. Included in the model is a module to calculate the costs of recycling the alcohol that is used as the cosolvent. The model was validated using site conditions to a prior study. It was determined that recycling the cosolvent allows cosolvent flushing to be a cost effective alternative to surfactant flushing, another new technology being considered for DNAPL source remediation. Sensitivity analysis of the model was conducted by varying the saturation percentage of contaminant, percentage and type of alcohol used in the cosolvent mixture, site hydraulic conductivity, and the contaminant. Five alcohols were modeled: methanol, ethanol, 1-isopropanol, 2-isopropanol, and tert-butyl-alcohol (TBA). 1-Isopropanol, 2-isopropanol, and TBA were always more expensive than methanol and ethanol.

                                                Information Systems: Success in the 21st Century by Uma Gupta is an excellent introduction to the many facets of designing a modern information system. I teach the Info Systems Architecture course at Johns Hopkins University and I this is the textbook. It is an ideal book for learning the varied technologies, approaches and architectures available to meet different system needs. It has many diagrams that make the relationships of hardware and software components understandable. A strength of the book is that it does not get bogged down in technical details. It is intended for someone who is interested in getting into the technology field but is not yet ready to, or has no intention of, becoming a computer porgrammer.
