2 out of 5 stars Puzzling Puzzles left me pondering, "Where's the value?".......2002-05-30

I bought both "Puzzling Auditing Puzzles" and "Puzzling Quality Puzzles". Both offer an assortment of puzzles and the best ones are the coded messages. However, the bulk of these books are crosswords and also the most disappointing aspect. These crosswords are not constructed anywhere near the level found in a newspaper or tv guide. The clues tended to be ambiguous and most of the answer blocks are not connected. The crosswords reminded me of a shareware program I had several years ago. I'm going to dig through my box of old 5.25 floppies and put together my own "book" of quality-related puzzles... other than the book binding I can achieve the same result for free. Definitely not the best value for my money.

                    1 out of 5 stars Garbage.......2002-07-10

I purchased this book for my company last year, and I have found very little use for the forms included in this book. It was not what I expected from a book with "PMI" attached to it. The quality of the forms are horrible. This book appears to have been slapped together quickly to make a buck. If you purchase this book beware of the many, many mispellings and typos throughout the forms. It looks like someone stayed up late one night creating some quick Excel docs, saved them to a floppy, placed the hard copies in a binder, and threw out a "for sale" sign to a public eagerly awaiting some form templates. Charging [money] for these unedited and very rough "forms" is a crime.

2 out of 5 stars Not too useful without a CD-ROM.......1999-10-22

Comprehensive compilation of forms. Too many construction industry forms. If you want to stand at the copier every time you want to use a form, go ahead and buy the book. If there was a CD-ROM included with the book, I would have found it much more useful.

4 out of 5 stars 150 sample documents useful in managing your project.......1999-03-04

                    Book Description

This is the first full-length survey of current work which examines the compatibility of microeconomics and macroeconomics. Its particular distinction is that it makes accessible, to non-specialists, those extensive modern refinements of general equilibrium theory which are linked to macroeconomics and monetary theory. Part I traces the development and interlocking nature of two scientific research prgrams, macroeconomics and neo-Walrasian analysis. The five chapters in this part examine general equilibrium theory, Keynes’ contribution, the ‘neoclassical synthesis’, and the Clower–Leijonhufvud contributions to questions of systemic coordination. The four chapters of Part II place recent work on the micro-foundations of macroeconomics within a taxonomic scheme of Walrasian equilibrium, Walrasian disequilibrium, Edgeworthian equilibrium, and Edgeworthian disequilibrium. Part III, a single chapter, provides an overview of the subject and ventures some conclusions.

Weintraub builds the foundation of this book on his chapter 3,which is titled "The 4,827th reexamination of Keynes's system".Unfortunately, for the 4,827th time,Weintraub demonstrates that economists are unable to integrate(take the antiderivative) Keynes's derivatives from pp.55-56,ft.2 and pp.282-286 of the General Theory in order to arrive at Keynes's original model .Any reader of this review, who has passed the first semester of college level calculus and analytic geometry, will discover that Keynes's basic model(the D-Z model of expected aggregate demand and supply) is that the expected aggregate supply function Z=g(N)=P+wN ,where P equals expected profit,w is equal to a constant money wage and N equals aggregate employment. The expected aggregate demand function is equal to D=pO,where p is equal to an expected price and O=f(N)is real output. The actual aggregate demand function is Y=C+I,where C=a+bY(or C=bY)and b equals the marginal propensity to spend on consumption goods.Weintraub claims that Z=pq(pO),where q=f(N)is real output and that D=C+I(see Weintraub,pp.40-42).The"employment function"that Weintraub claims to derive on p.46 has absolutely nothing to do with the analysis presented by Keynes in chapter 20.Keynes worked with the real (expected) wage,( w/p).Weintraub's ordinate is incorrectly defined as the money wage,w.In Keynes's system, changes in the money wage cause shifts in the curves and not movement up and down a fixed"employment function"curve. Finally, Weintraub's claim that "The Z-D model was developed by S. Weintraub[1958]and extended by Davidson and Smolensky[1962]and Davidson[1972}",(Weintraub,p.47)makes no sense because anyone who can integrate the derivatives of chapter 20 ,or just follow Keynes's analysis, will see that the Z-D model is, contrary to E.Roy Weintraub, the intellectual creation and property of one John Maynard Keynes.

5 out of 5 stars Keynes meets Walras.......2004-01-29

The concern of the book are the various approaches to unify macroeconomics and monetary theory with general equilibrium theory. The book consists of three parts. In the first part, the problems are outlined, the interpretations of Keynes and the standard Arrow-Debreu-McKenzie model are survied, together with early approaches to unify them. The second part takes a look at Walrasian approaches, where prices and markets are central, and Edgeworthian approaches, where direct exchanges are examined, to macroeconomic questions. Both are examined from a static equilibrium perspective and dynamic disequilibrium theory. The third part is dedicated to reflections.
The book is surveying the field, it is not a textbook. The discussion remains on an informal level, with little mathematics being used. The book should be readable to advanced undergraduates and more advanced readers. The only drawback is that the book is a little bit old. There is no discussion of OLG models, which became popular later. Since the topic of dynamics has been neglicted by GE theorists for quite some time, the book is still worth reading.

4 out of 5 stars An overview of usability and thensome..........2002-03-12

As Mr. Battenfeld has chosen to neglect, the text is meant as a hands-on guide, not an in-depth study in web site usability. In testing web site accessibility in my own endeavors, I found this book informative, enlightening, and straightforward as it was meant to present. Hands-on references are targeting those who not only are employed in the field, but also who need an overview of potential risks and benefits in testing procedures. This book surfaced the obvious that most theoretical texts dismiss, like buy-in, scripts, disclaimers, etc. - vital aspects that are often not discussed or mentioned in less practical application books. I would like to thank the authors for providing the general public, with a practical reference we can consult as we conduct our own testing procedures. A definite recommendation for new reference material. As I am not a library specialist, but work as a web programmer, educator, and proponent of universal web design, this text was extremely helpful and practical.

Very, very different! To grasp the simple clarity of this program you'll want to listen to it several times;you've got to in order to taste, swallow and digest its TRUTH! It is extremely refreshing and provacative!

It is about much more than effective advertising. It proves that everything is connected and to produce effective advertising you must have clear and truthful advertising that is backed by the same kind of business which is in turn, backed by the same type of individual. If all that is in place then what you advertise, when, where and why becomes obvious, simple and affordable.

This program will make you think!

This is really a refreshing, mind-snapping fulfilling presentation.

Marketing wiz Jay Abraham provides some powerful strategies for boosting your career or business in Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got. Abraham believes that anyone can advance in life by tapping into hidden assets and developing the right mindset. He writes, "You are surrounded by simple, obvious solutions that can dramatically increase your income, power, influence and success. The problem is, you just don't see them." Over the course of 21 chapters, he shows how to get ahead by treating bosses and clients as valued friends; find better and more exciting ways of doing things; develop "unique selling propositions"; persuade people to follow your lead; master the art of selling on the telephone; craft a formal referral system; sell on the Internet; and forge strong, established business relationships. Abraham's central theme is that everyone is in sales. In almost any profession, people must be skilled at selling themselves and their ideas, not just their company's product or service. Engagingly written, the book features more than 200 examples of people and companies who have successfully used these techniques, from Bill Gates and Dennis Rodman to Sharper Image and Federal Express. --Dan Ring

                    5 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing!.......2007-09-26

This book is the best marketing book I've read so far. I was amazed at the simple, yet powerful concepts that Jay laid out in the book, as well as some of the very sophisticated, and lucrative deals that he was able to put together in his case studies in the book.

This guy is the best... Hands down.

Like Dan Kennedy's No B.S. Direct Marketing: The Ultimate, No Holds Barred, Kick Butt, Take No Prisoners Direct Marketing for Non-direct Marketing Businesses (No B.S.), this book by Jay Abraham is a primer containing practical steps to take your business where you want to go with it. Implementing just one of the steps will more than pay for your investment in the book. If you like what you read, then I highly recommend picking up a copy of Money-making Secrets of Marketing Genius Jay Abraham and Other Marketing Wizards (A No-Nonsense Guide to Great Wealth and a Personal Fortune) a.k.a. the Mr. X Book. If you only want to get one Abraham book, pick the Mr. X Book over this one. However, both are good. The Mr. X Book is simply better because it contains so much more information that you can use in your business.

5 out of 5 stars Scary good - you'll never look at business the same way again.......2007-08-18

This book is so good it's scary. It's scary to think about how powerful the principles are that Jay shares. It's also scary to think...what if I had gone through life and never been exposed to this?

I've read alot of business books. By Trump, Richard Branson, Robert Allen, Al Ries, Seth Godin, etc. They give you answers and little pieces of the puzzle.

They'll talk about customer service or "permission marketing" or another "hot strategy". Jay's material just obliterates everything else out there, he's not just giving you a 1/4 of the answer or an 1/8, he's giving you the whole answer. Answers that other people would charge thousands of dollars for in seminars, tens of thousands of dollars.

I'm a big fan of Jay. I have this book, many of his seminar tapes, Mastermind, PEQ, Strategy Summit. And many other reports and interviews.

The techniques and strategies he gives you are very, very powerful and profound. But there's so much hidden value in studying his material and really dissecting and analyzing what he's doing.

He's sold tens of millions of dollars worth of his own products and seminars. He sells out $15,000 seminars. Most people struggle to earn $200 or $300 an hour for consulting, how does Jay get $5,000? Why is it so powerful? Where does he get his answers from? I'd rip apart every word and every sentence he shares.

                    I'd study..

-His own positioning and selling strategies. His writing style is to die for. It'd serve as an incredible model/template if you write a newsletter, ezine, etc. Jay pounds into your head, "make everything have to perform", and obviously he does it with his writing.

-It amazes me that everyone wants to make money, we live in a very competitive world, and yet some of the answers Jay gives are so simple, why does everyone miss them?

For example, most people's advertising budget has no correlation to what a customer is worth. Jay focuses on marginal net worth. Most people think they're selling a drill, Jay focuses on the hole. Most people fall in love with the wrong thing (paraphrasing Jay). They want to be the biggest, the best, the fastest growing. They fall in love with the medium or the technology. It's trite, but Jay focuses on falling in love with the customer.

A huge error people make in business is thinking that the deeper they go in whatever they're doing (allocating a budget, selling, advertising, lead generating) the better they'll become. But you'll never come up with the right answers if you focus on the wrong thing. If you keep selling a drill a 100 times, it won't turn into a hole. Most people in business see alot of activity, Jay sees myopia, limited thinking and limited understanding (thus Jay's 3-D glasses).

-Lastly, Jay is brilliant at reducing and simplifying everything down to a core driving principle. Figuring out what makes something work. It's such an overlooked skill for entrepreneur and people in business.

A direct quote from Jay (from one of his tapes)

"The clearer your understanding, the simpler and the more reduced your awareness, of what makes something work, the more powerful it normally becomes."

That's a huge skill to develop. Forget about all this other stuff out there. Jumping on the latest fad, or tweaking something.

There's also alot of other lateral applications that I wonder about. He makes it look so easy. What would be the Jay equivilant in investing or real estate investing?

                    A mind blowing book.

Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got is Jay's only "real" published book, but it represents the summary of his collective experience and wisdom from decades of helping businesses optimize their own businesses.

Sure, you could hire Jay personally and pay thousands of dollars, and for many of you reading this, that may be the best move you ever made for your business.

But, for just a few dollars you can put Jay's magic to work immediately.

Yes, it is magic because he helps you create more money from the same assets you already have.

I sincerely believe you could take one or two ideas in this book and revolutionize your existing business.

Jay has a unique way of viewing the world...it's like he has the only pair of 3D glasses. For a glimpse into "Jay's World", get this book!

4 out of 5 stars Maybe those were different times.......2007-06-08

The book is good, with a lot of useful strategis, but it doesn't live up to buzz Jay Abraham creates for himself.

I guess that either the book is dated or Mr. Abraham has sandbaged information to sell his more profitable products.

                              Book Description

This book uses comparative institutional analysis to explain differences in national economic performance. Countries have their own rules for corporate governance and they have different market arrangements; and these differences in rules and organization affect the way firms behave. Countries also tend to develop conventions of organizational architechture of firmsDSwhether their hierarchies are functional, horizontal, or decentralized. This affects the way in which they process information, and information management is increasingly seen as being of crucial importance to a firm's performance. Aoki accords more importance to these factors than to the factors conventionally used in applying a neoclassical model of economic efficiency. He applies game theory, contract theory, and information theory. By describing the rules and norms in Japan, the USA, and the transitional economies, Aoki shows how firms can achieve competitive advantage in international markets if these conventions and rules are well suited to the industrial sector in which the firms operate. He is particularly concerned with how Japan, with its main bank and lifelong employment systems, as well as information-sharing firm organizational structure, might reform its institutions to maintain competitive advantage in the world economy.
