Ms Teal is The Astrologer's Astrologer.......2007-04-15
This book gave a lot of information about deliniating returns, and with a few personal major life decisions on my mind, I sat down to read her book with my chart along aside. Now, I've studied Astrolgy all of my life, and people tell me I am quite good at helping them make decisions using their birth date as a guide. (I am a great-grandmother, and have studied Astrology for many, many Moons.) But I was sooooo stymied by my own stars~! It was very hard for me to be objective when I was trying to make wise life-changing decisions. So, I emailed to Celeste Teal for help. (She offers a once a year maintenance plan that integrates all of the methods detailed in the book, based on the client's birth data.)
It was last fall when I consulted her for guidance, and every point she brought up in her feedback to me has proved to be 100% accurate. She opened my mind up into seeing all the possibilities on my path ahead instead of just seeing the things I wanted to see happen in my Horoscope. All the techniques she used to help me are clearly outlined in this book, I really learned a lot and feel I am a much better Astrologer, after seeing how she applied her methods to my birth data.
Identifying Planetary Triggers by Celeste Teal.......2006-01-21
Not for the beginner, and the organization structure is not for everybody, but the heart of this book is worth any reading time devoted to it. I particularly like the way she approaches planet returns. She discusses Solar, Saturn, Jupiter and even personal planet returns. Her honoring of one of our astrological ancestors, Hubert Smith, by including some of his transit intrepretations, is refreshing in this current humanistic astrology era. For me, this one of those astrology library basics.
Packed with Useful Information.......2005-09-09
I found this book so very helpful when I work on charts. It's given me ways to put different charts together. I love the insight on the planetary returns. It's very detailed and comprehensive.
Super Reference!.......2002-08-10
Ms. Teal has already written a comprehensive overview of what her book does. What I love about this work is the information about Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter Returns, because there is so little else written on them. She covers a lot of information including progressions, transits, and other Returns as well. There are numerous examples to illustrate in a well-organized, very readable work that is easy to reference. Lots of valuable information not readily available elsewhere!
very good follow-up to 'predicting events'.......2001-08-15
In her second book Celeste Teal reveals something more about techniques for prediction. Though she refers a lot to techniques already mentioned in her first book the most valuable parts in this book are about the return charts and the transit descriptions by dr. Smith. This book is a must read for all astrologers.

A very practical tool with good advice on work team coaching.......1999-01-25
This is a book you will probably want to buy in quantity. It's an affordable little 96-page compendium of the most relevant "Do's and Don'ts" of leading a group of people. What I like about this book is its simplicity. Each "Do" and each "Don't" is accompanied by a short story from real-life situations to help clarify the significant points. These are the issues that tend to get leaders in a lot of trouble, and Steve Herbelin has captured them nicely in this book.
Simple, direct, hits the target!.......1998-09-16
The dos and don'ts are direct, to the point and extremely practical for just about any kind of working environment. I especially like the abundance of true anecdotes that clarify and reinforce the points being made. I strongly recommend this book for team leaders as well as coaches!
Big things come in small packages!.......1998-09-12
I started reading this book with a bit of skepticism. After all, it's written by the workers. Right from the start, though, this book makes sense. Lots of sense. It presents a philosophical outlook on team leadership that gets to the core --- interpersonal relationships --- without using superficial analogies or inventing contrived structures. Just common sense about how to deal with people and situations in a real, straightforward manner. Over and over again I found myself thinking things like, "Yes, I know that. That's true. Right on!" It's mostly things that we already know, but maybe need a little book like this to give us the confidence to more often do the right thing and act the right way. If everyone applied the principles outlined in "The Dos and Don'ts of Work Team Coaching," the world would certainly be a better place in which to work. I'm going to keep it handy and read it again someday, and again.

A Good Basic Book.......2001-01-22
Facilitation Made Easy is a good basic book for the beginning facilitator. It provides step by step instruction on how to set up your workshop. It provides a good overview of listening skills, conflict resolution, how to keep things moving along, managing time and many other useful skills. I used it as a guideline for my first Joint Application Development workshop and got very good reviews on the workshop. I recommend the book to anyone who is responsible for bringing a diverse group of people together for the purpose of getting something accomplished.

Excellent treatment of essential core processes.......2002-10-06
The practices outlined in this book are the foundation of IT operational service, availability and support. This book covers the key elements necessary for achieving a high level of IT operational excellence in great detail. I especially like the way production acceptance criteria is emphasized - this is an often overlooked topic that merits its own book - and the clear outline of how to implement change control (often talked about, but sadly missing in many organizations), and the clear distinction between problem management and the much narrower scope of help desk support operations.
Some of the issues raised by the previous reviewer regarding updating the core processes and procedures for contemporary operations in e-commerce and web-based environments are addressed in the newest book in this series titled "Web-Based Infrastructures: A 4-D Framework" by Sanmay Mukhopadhyay and Cooper Smith (ISBN 0130329894). Although that book does address the gaps noted, this book is still invaluable because it focuses strictly on the core elements while the newer book has a wider scope.
If you are a member of an IT operations management team or are involved with service level management this book will prove to be an invaluable resource, and is one that I highly recommend.
Sound Processes and Clear Roadmap to Operations Excellence.......2001-01-25
This book provides a coherent roadmap to "lights out" data center operations. It also provides a roadmap to developing a sound organization and processes to support data center operations regardless of whether they are "lights out", 24x7 or less demanding normal working hours support.
In fact, this book is misnamed because the real focus is on data center operations and the support requirements of running a data center in accordance with a set of best practices that the author has acquired over the years.
The roadmap that is used in this book appears to assume that operations will be outsourced. A good deal of the analysis and planning, and the roadmap milestones seems to lead to that objective. However, it will also support in-house operations after you align the people and process sides of the equation to the book's processes.
Real strengths of the author's approach are in the processes. He addresses the key process areas that need to be in place and the level of maturity needed to operate an effective and efficient data center. These same processes are the foundation of service delivery - which is the foundation of customer satisfaction. They are:
- Production Acceptance
- Problem Management
- Change Management
- Asset Management
- Disaster Recovery
Each of the above are essential processes. The author's approach validates my 24 years of mainframe experience. I especially like the production acceptance process that is conspicuously missing from most non-mainframe shops.
There are some potential problems with some of the processes that my current experience in distributed and e-commerce environments is uncovering.
Let's start with problem management. The author's approach is good for the here and now, but has a limited future. For example, the call center experts are rapidly integrating customer relationship management with internet technologies. External customers are benefiting from technologies and associated processes that we IT experts are designing and implementing while our internal customers are limited to more traditional kinds. Another issue is there is no clear linkage between problem management and disaster recovery. At what point does a problem trigger either business continuity or disaster recovery processes? This, as far as I can tell, has been adroitly sidestepped in every book and white paper addressing problem management, so the author cannot be faulted here. However, it is something you should consider as you read this section of the book.
The change management process is sound and works well in mainframe and traditional operational settings. However, the realities that we are faced with today are going to make the traditional approach to change management obsolete. It is not responsive enough to today's dynamic environments that are characterized by competitive pressures and the sheer complexity of data center environments. There has to be a streamlined approach, and the one proposed by the author will probably be an anachronism in the next two years. Managing changes in the Internet environment needs to happen quickly to respond to pressures, but with controls to ensure that you do not affect half the world. Consider something as simple as a new DNS server - mistakes in the tables can get propagated that make it look like you are hijacking web site traffic (this really happened!) While this particular process is well developed and meets today's needs, I hope the author will revisit this in the next edition and come up with a process that provides the speed that marketing demands, and the controls that we practitioners need.
Overall, this book is a very valuable source of ideas and comes with ready-made processes that can be implemented and managed to provide a mature operational support environment. The shortcomings that I cited do not detract from this book - they only underscore the fact that the world is rapidly changing and what works well today is not going to work well tomorrow. As the co-developer of the Tarrani-Zarate Information Technology Management Model, I can attest that there are no clear answers or solutions to these shortcomings. I can only hope that the author addresses these gaps in the next edition. In the meantime, the processes and approach provided in the book will give you the tools and techniques with which to build a mature operational support organization that is based on true best practices.

Book Description
Plain language, clear explanations, and a focus on practical business applications.
A recent A. T. Kearny study found that information technology is the number-one item on the agendas of a majority of CEOs and boards of directors. However, while senior managers are spending more time keeping abreast of developments in IT, many remain uncomfortable making decisions concerning technology issues that they don't entirely grasp.
Executive's Guide to Information Technology presents a comprehensive, nontechnical model for understanding the IT environment. Focused on the issues that are most important to upper-level managers, this book supplies the big-picture perspective needed to understand IT as a whole, while explaining how various components work together to support business functions. Without getting bogged down in details, it provides clear, comprehensible overviews of:
* Networking and platform technologies
* Software infrastructurE
* Information management systems
* Enabling technologies
* Applications
* Middleware, application servers, and system management technologies
The future belongs to organizations with the knowledge and confidence to exploit their IT resources wisely and use them aggressively. Executive's Guide to Information Technology gives business leaders the tools they need to do both.
In a business environment increasingly driven by information technology, it is essential for top-level executives to keep abreast of the latest developments in IT. They must understand how information systems can help achieve business goals and be able to use this understanding to make critical business decisions. Unfortunately, many senior-level executives find themselves at the mercy of technicians who have little grasp of business issues, focus on details rather than broader functions, and speak an arcane and mystifying language. There is a clear need for an intermediary to help executives decipher technological language, seek and get the answers that are most important from a business perspective, and develop better working relationships with IT personnel.
Executive's Guide to Information Technology provides a "Rosetta stone" that makes sense of a seemingly chaotic cluster of components-a coherent, trustworthy frame of reference that lays the foundation for more effective working relationships among business executives and technology managers. This book helps executives ask better questions about IT issues and better understand the answers they receive. Using integrated models that illustrate how information technologies form an infrastructure that supports practical business uses of information, it keeps the discussion focused on matters of direct concern to executives. Understanding these models develops a stronger grasp of the evolving role IT plays within organizations and establishes a comfort zone within which managers can develop a keener comprehension of component technologies and the strategic and tactical business decisions that surround them.
Whether it is read from cover to cover or consulted as a quick reference, Executive's Guide to Information Technology is an indispensable tool for CEOs, board members, COOs, CFOs, controllers, treasurers, and other business professionals who need to establish firm control of the governance, direction, and management of two of their most valuable assets: information and the technologies that support it.

Terrible diagrams.......2001-11-13
They say one picture is worth a thousand words. Well, the diagrams in this book are SO bad that they actually have a substractive effect on one's understanding. This book will be helpful to you as long as you have the ability to visualize on your own what he writes about.
Simply The Best Executive Guide To Understanding The IT Inf.......2001-06-07
Since the day IT became central to our lives, I have been grooping in the dark. I have gone into meetingS feeling totally at a lost on what the IT guys are talking about. No one, even the so called IT experts in my circle managed to give me an overview of what all these is about. I even managed to set up an IT training centre without understanding the fundamentals of the IT infrastructure - hoping I will learn on the job. I did but the learning was very disjointed. Then one day I saw this book by chance in a bookshop. There were only 2 copies. I bought it. Came back and read it into the wee hours of the morning. I went back the next day and bought the other copy as well for my wife. I wouldn't share my copy even with her. IT IS AN EYE OPENER. READ IT FROM COVER TO COVER. YOU WILL WALK INTO THE NEW ECONOMY, INTO THE CONNECTED WORLD A CHANGED PERSON. JAMES COX - WELL DONE & THANK YOU.YOU HAVE DONE ME REAL SERVICE.
Concise and Clear.......1999-11-09
This is a superb book. It demystifies IT and clearly explains the differences between platform technologies (hardware/software), networks, and information management systems. I've heard people use these terms for years, and never fully understood until I read this book what makes each component of the IT infrastructure unique, and how they all work together. Executive's Guide to Information Technology is well worth the money, and I highly recommend it.
