        This accessible book is about pupil disaffection. It tackles some of the issues, which confront policy makers and practitioners in many countries and contexts. Education has become a political priority for many governments, and many have sought to tackle the issues of underachievement and failure. But if education is a political priority, why aren't school days `the best days of your life'? Why are so many students - and their teachers - unhappy with their lot?

        Most children start school at five, or thereabouts, with enthusiasm and curiosity. Most parents want the best for their children. Most teachers enter the teaching profession because they are motivated by enthusiasm for their subject, or by a commitment to support children's learning. Most teachers who become head teachers do so because they want to make a difference to young people's lives. For many teachers and their pupils, education is a rewarding experience.

        But what happens over the years to lead to disaffection in a sizeable minority? Why does the partnership between schools and families succeed for some, but fall apart for others? Why do some young people reject school and become excluded from learning? What forces the different 'camps' to blame each other ?

        International studies have shown that education attainment at age 16 is the most important predictor of future participation in learning, and of labour market opportunities. Young people with no qualifications are between two and three times more likely to be unemployed as their peers, and to be excluded from society. They become disenfranchised by their lack of educational opportunities.

        This book is more than another tale of pupil disengagement. From talking to parents, pupils and teachers, the authors provide some answers to the questions:

        This reference work and graduate level textbook considers a wide range of models and methods for analyzing and forecasting multiple time series. The models covered include vector autoregressive, cointegrated, vector autoregressive moving average, multivariate ARCH and periodic processes as well as dynamic simultaneous equations and state space models. Least squares, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian methods are considered for estimating these models. Different procedures for model selection and model specification are treated and a wide range of tests and criteria for model checking are introduced. Causality analysis, impulse response analysis and innovation accounting are presented as tools for structural analysis.

        The book is accessible to graduate students in business and economics. In addition, multiple time series courses in other fields such as statistics and engineering may be based on it. Applied researchers involved in analyzing multiple time series may benefit from the book as it provides the background and tools for their tasks. It bridges the gap to the difficult technical literature on the topic.

        This book provides a fairly elementary view of the vast subject of time series analysis. It easy to read and the author provides lots of basic calculations. Typically, such books stay away from the cutting edge topics but not this one. It is quite complete. I highly recommend it to anyone that knows a few basic things about time series and wants to take it much further.

            Many books on project management include a lot of theory. I liked this book because it offers some solid, practical guidance to project managers and project teams to improve their effectiveness at delivering projects successfully. It also does a great job of describing how to charter, build and sustain a project team and the dynamics that teams go through. This has helped me be a better project manager by understanding these team dynamics.

                This book should be required for everyone even thinking about entering the field of public relations. The case studies give a very real view of how public relations are in the real world. Michael Levine's Guerrilla PR Wired is also another book that gives a real-life accurate view of PR. I would recommend in particular his Magoo Theory of public realtions.

In their Public Relations Practices, Center and Jackson breathed life into theoretical public relations, bringing it into "the real world" with cases in several areas of public relations--media relations, consumer relations, employee relations, investor relations, community relations, crisis management, public and private issues, interests, & concerns, and most importantly, standards, values, & ethics. Two probable prerequisites to this book would be a book on the basic principles and practices of PR and a book on PR campaign strategies.                 I read this book in a college public relations class. Now, as an account executive in a public relations firm, I still find it invaluable. This text places special emphasis on the evaluation of public relations, and thus it is a credit to our field. I can't recommend it highly enough. Once you have read some introductory book on PR principles, this is required reading.
