          This book was extremely weak, basically, it just lacked substance. The author's wrote in extremely high level business/technologies terms that yield almost zero insight.

          I definitely don't recommend this book unless you are looking for a VERY fluffy high level overview of how technology can transform an organization.

          If you're impressed with platitudes, by all means read this book. It's amazing how obvious some of the recommendations are. "Target profitable customers, and avoid unprofitable ones." "Form a consistent corporate strategy, and stick to it -- until, of course, the time comes to abandon it, and then abandon it." Wow. Deep stuff.

          If the authors had spent more time explaining how to know when to change strategies, rather than focusing on hindsight, this book could have been powerful. It's a shame, really. Singh and Clemons have published much deeper research in strategy and MIS journals. Knowledge@Wharton is free to subscribe to, and quite interesting, but there's no need to pay for two-year-old stuff.

          This is a well written book on the concept and practice of benchmarking. The book gives a comprehensive coverage of a wide range of topics on benchmarking including a clear explanation of what benchmarking is all about, how to use it and the benefits from employing it.

          The author did a good job of coming up with a reference book that can be used by managers in all departments of an organisation. He clearly explained and illustrated the subject, making it interesting and easy to follow by anyone with a responsibility for the performance of a section or department. The book is well written with easy to follow explanations and worked examples. One can quickly learn about benchmarking through studying reference guides. The author provides valuable tips that help the reader to implement the concept to their own circumstances. The reader will find the book easy to follow due to the author's extensive knowledge and experience in the subject.

          The book is recommended reading for managers in all departments of an organisation in a commercial enterprise or non-profit organisation.

Because it's difficult for any one parent to remember all the details about what to look for when visiting with potential child care providers or centers, Choosing Quality Child Care includes everything from telephone questions, to what to watch for during an on-site visit.           Choosing Quality Child Care is a great resource for parents to learn how to go about getting good child care. I learned what child care options are available and how to pick the best one for my needs. I learned good questions to ask providers and what to look for when I visit a site. I also learned how to find out about the local licensing procedures in my area. This is a must for a first time parent. (A great shower gift too!) Even experienced parents will find this a great resource!!

                The management problems addressed in Adaptive Search and the Management of Logistic Systems stem from the recent changes in the logistics sector. Global competition and increasing consumer expectations are forcing industrial enterprises to reorganize their business processes to support better and more cost-efficient services. Quick and precise customer delivery processes have been recognized as the key to significant savings and growth for a company. In seeking solutions to the related problems of planning and control in today's logistic activities, the book is divided into two parts. Part I lays down the fundamentals of evolutionary adaptive systems before an architectural model for adaptive agents is developed. Part II is devoted to applications of these adaptive agents. By focusing on elementary yet complex problems, it is hoped to glean sufficient details of the real world. In its examination of the logistics network, the book employs a simple yet powerful framework of evolutionary search, allowing efficient support for reactive problem solving by the actors in the logistics network. Following modern terminology, we refer to evolutionary algorithms as learning or adaptive agents. Different from other software artifacts, which are also designated as agents in the current literature, these adaptive agents do not communicate directly by exchanging messages. Instead, while exploring the space of logistic operation, they communicate by mutually changing details of the common environment they perceive.

The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Outsourcing is one method the Department of Defense is actively pursuing in order to cut costs and fund its planned modernization. This thesis investigates the question of whether the U.S. Navy should outsource the SAR mission at Naval Air Stations. The overarching question of whether or not SAR is an "inherently governmental" function was considered as was the alternative possibility of competition, if it were a "commercial" function. This thesis is designed to complement other ongoing analyses by concentrating on the non-direct cost issues. A direct cost analysis of this outsourcing initiative is not conducted in this thesis. This thesis, therefore, examines the gross benefits received by the U.S. Navy as a result of the SAR mission at Naval Air Stations. These benefits were categorized for analysis as personnel rotation-base, personnel experience-base, mission related and public related. A Decision Support System Generator using the Analytical Hierarchy Process was introduced in the study as an experimental methodology for evaluating the benefits received by the Navy. Consistent results were obtained from two separate groups and insights were obtained for future improvements in these experimental techniques. There is also a discussion of how the Analytical Hierarchy Process might be extended to evaluate net benefits (that is, benefits minus costs) to the Navy.

                                    The book cuts all the hype around E-Commerce phenomenon and boldly states that Internet ultimately is a tool, a very powerful one though, and like any other tool is as good as the user.

                                    As an Electronic Commerce Consultant from Bombay, India, I really like the way autor has integrated real life marketing strategies with ones on the Internet. The strategies are applicable to businesses globally, and not just in countries which are way up in Internet maturity and penetration.

                                    This book helped me out quite a bit. It gave me a clear understanding of how the internet works and how I should conduct business on the internet. It was a very small investment with big payoffs. But, there was a lot of repetition.

'Life and Death on the Internet' by Keith A Schroeder really addresses these additional concerns that must be handled prior to making money on the Internet. Get both books. They compliment each other.
