Investment in executive education has grown steadily since its inception during the last century. Several studies have attempted to measure the effectiveness of executive programs; prior research has indicated that some programs lack relevance. This study addressed the topic from the perspective of corporations, whose future executive education decisions are affected by the relevance of current programs, and program alumni. In a partial replication of a 1959 Harvard study, which queried graduates of 39 residential programs, I surveyed the 1993-1995 executive MBA graduates of four schools: UCLA, University of Colorado, University of Utah, and University of Washington. The main research question was: Are executive education programs meeting the needs of their mid-career students ? In addition to the above, the changing workplace prompted the following queries: a) Is there a difference between the satisfaction of the students with the programs in 1959 and now? b) Are the programs affected by lack of security in the workplace. Are people using the EMBA to change employers? c) Do sponsoring companies use the skills learned? d) Do women have a problem with the 'glass ceiling'? In addition to collecting the surveys, I interviewed the four program directors, 10 corporate executives whose responsibilities include executive education, and 24 of the 157 alumni who returned the questionnaire. Frequency distribution, correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression were used to analyze the survey data. The major findings were: 1) EMBA students today are satisfied with the relevance of their education; 2) Students are dissatisfied with schools that employ professors with outdated or inadequate teaching skills; 3) Instability in today's workplace is prompting some people to change jobs or go into their own business once their EMBA is completed; 4) Corporations will continue to invest in these programs, but there is more specific succession planning in conjunction with the career path expected for the employee; 5) There continues to be little ethnic diversity in the programs.

Shipping method could improve.......2006-02-17
DHL shipping method is quite confusing. Apparently, they ship the package to local USPS to do the delivery. In the mean time their tracking page says the package has been delivered, which in the customer's eyes, that means the package should be sitting at their fron door.
I called DHL and they would just tell me that the package was already delivered. I then proceded to call Amazon to complain thinking that my package was lost. Of course, the package arrived the next day.

Made me a great waiter.......2002-10-29
Someone had recommended this book to me becasue i was thinking of becoming a waiter during the summer to help make ends meet money-wise. So i got a job waitering and almost immediately i was making as much and even more than the people that had been there years before me. My idea of a summer job sortof turned into a great paying job. This was the perfect book, it was easy to read in an hour front to back and i was one of the best servers at our restaurant. Thanks.

Mr. Garrison does an excellent job in presenting the underrated skill of restaurant service. I found his style of writing informative yet entertaining with clever analogies and examples which made his points come across very clear. I regret not having this book in my hands years ago! I would also highly recommend this book for restaurant/bar owners who are looking for skilled staff to increase their profits. Stephen makes a lot of sense! Enjoy (:

A historical tome.......1999-04-16
"The Northern Gold Fleet" is a detailed academic historical tome, surely the authority on the subject for years to come. For a monograph of this genre, it is well written. However, it desperately needs, and lacks any diagrams, line illustrations, etc. The only illustrations are a few fuzzy historical photos of dredges. Numerous terms such as "jitney winch" are undefined. Many terms such as "ground sluicing" and "drift mine" are used in ways which seem to be in variance with standard usage. Unfortunately, there is no glossary-which again is desperately needed. There is no summary of the book, nor of the chapters, nor a timeline-so the reader has to perform all summaries himself. If half the text were replaced with line drawings, tables, diagrams, a timeline and a glossary, this book would have been a hundred times more readable and useful.

A great coffee table book or a good example of advertising at its best, this book is very interesting and fun, and includes many famous people. It even has parodies on the "Got Milk?" campaign. However, since it was published in 1998, the more recent ads are not included.
The Milk Mustache Book : A Behind-The-Scenes Look at America.......2005-03-19
This is a wonderfull book of stupendous photos with famous and not so famous people that were used for the milk mustache campaign. The photo with steve young is totally cool and the one with Isabella Rosesellini is also very nice to look at. This was a great avertising campaign and the photos are just astounding. This is a keeper.
White creamy goodness.......2002-09-21
The photographic display contained in this volume is positively euphoric. Some may say you can get the exact same results from a blindfolded five dollar streetwalker, but how many times does the girl on the corner look like Spike Lee? I didn't think so.
Did you know there are people who are paid to place that milk-like substance on celebrities? It's a shame I didn't have this tidbitty apple slice from the tree of knowledge seven years ago for I could have saved myself some money in wasted secondary education.
But the true lesson I learned from this compilation is that yes, it is possible to publish a book without contributing even a single thing to great genre of literature. Kudos to you, Jay Schulberg and the dairy ad board!
The pictures are good, I guess.......2002-08-21
If you want to see pictures of the early milk mustaches, this book is for you. If you want to learn anything of substance about the campaign, this book is NOT for you. The written introduction and copy throughout the book have a very "dumbed down" tone and are sickeningly self-promoting. Look elsewhere for real information about the campaign.
