      Come on now. This book has very little new ideas and methodology from current literature and practice in the area of online instruction. Take any good ol' intro to teaching book call it Moving to online. There are only a few good nuggets of useful pieces of information that may be used. Thank god for libraries, otherwise I wouldn't even taken the time to review this flavor of the month.

      This is a must read book for anybody starting a business or even thinking about starting a business! Joan Hartley delivers what she promises. Her book is a basic toolkit that will help every business owner.

      We all know that every business is only as strong as its weakest link. This book can help you prevent disaster and ensure success by helping you take a very clear and concise look at the essential activities in starting or developing a business.

      This book is written in simple language, yet the content is not simplified, as one would expect from a book with this ambitious a title. The author has successfully create a book that is basic, practical and precise.

      I will give this book to every friend I know who is starting a new business activity!

      One strength of this book is how it helps you evaluate whether "doing" your own business is right for you. If it ISN'T for you, you have saved yourself way more than the price of the book by knowing not to start!

      If "doing" your own business IS for you, this book provides a systematic path to identifying your core values in a way that will enable you to integrate them into a mission statement and business plan.

      I saw this book while at a book signing by the author and was impressed with how "down to earth" her advice was to people chatting with her. I really like the way she approaches both task management and time management. She helps the reader define tasks clearly, in increments small enough to easily track progress without getting mired down by any single task.

      Her approach definitely encourages a potential business builder to stay on track and motivated, and her anecdotal inclusions illustrate material in a way that helps it "stick"!

      In retrospect, I see that this book covers a lot of ground in addressing the many areas in which the reader needs clear direction to develop and build a business. BUT it does not DWELL on details that could get in the way of the basics. (Maybe the author could write a sequel for those who use this book as a stepping stone to success!)

      Anyway, I especially liked that there is a lot of basic information but in the context of integrating values, vision, and vitality (Ooh!--maybe I should be a writer!) I recommend it to ANYONE thinking about starting business. It can definitely decrease your frustration while increasing your enjoyment of business life!

        Quality Improvement: A Systems Perspective by William F. Roth is a concise and informative book for those considering incorporating quality in business. The author begins by explaining quality improvement and how it can be achieved by modifying areas within an organizational system. Central to the ideas for success of quality improvement involve the full participation of all employees, the continuous interactive planning, and the holistic approach that is crucial to accomplishing a well integrated quality system. The author provides examples of companies where the quality process was initiated through the use of steps and guidelines involving the collective efforts of all employees, from the top to the bottom of an organization. The practical points and issues raised by the author provides the reader with the critical perspectives on achieving successful quality improvement. The text also discusses reasons for the failure and success of quality efforts.

        The author includes an analysis of important learning concepts that must be taught in business schools to provide the critical building blocks for effective organizational leadership. Quantitative analysis is extremely useful but for true quality derived from improvement of systems to be achieved, business students must be instructed in the analysis of skills in workers that are nonquantifiable. This book was brilliantly written and exposed the quality process at work at International Paper mills and at the Good Shepherd Rehab Center. These two examples have been provided to illustrate the different way in which a quality improvement process empowered employees.

        This text is as brilliant and practical today as when it was written years ago. The ideal corporate American system is embodied in the writing of this book. If one can sit back and idealize the perfect situation in work as in life, as the author discusses, one becomes that much closer to fulfilling his individual potential and the realization of his dreams.

                          I bought this book when I was marcoms manager on the side of agency's largest client. I wanted to get an insight into how an agency operates, and this book was only partly useful. If I was managing director of an ad agency I would probably find it more directly usable. It gives a lot on the financial side of running an agency. I dont think the MD of my former agency has got one :)

                          I read this and thought: what a reality check! Tons of people filter through agencies on their way to some other gig. But some people are staying in the agency world for good, in some capacity or another. They should all read this book.

                          There's not always one right answer as to how to run your agency, but there are, thankfully, some standard business practices and parameters, which are plainly described in this book.

                          I think it makes for a more balanced and effective agency.

                          The price is right. There's a lot of truly useful information you can share. It helps to demystify and guide. Even if you're not in a position to control the business side of your company, having this book sitting on your desk is kind of empowering. I'm glad I bought it.

                          This book was not written recently and many parts of it reflect that fact. It's pretty dated. It speaks mostly of the big agency world. If your already in that world, you might find the attention to accounting details helpful, as the author is clearly experienced and pays attention to dollar details. If your planning to start a small agency, (bootstrapping) you could do better than this book. If you're ready to seek funding then hire a big staff and go after Johnson and Johnson, this might have some info you could use.

                          If you're looking for ways to make a profit out of an existing operation, this book might interest you. But don't look for pointers on creative and production management, or on client-agency relationships, for example. It's a slick business book, with number crunching and capitalist views. Helpful, yes, in a limited way.

                          "The Advertising Agency Business" was an extremly insightful and logical read. The author focus on the basics of the industry but elaborates very well with examples. This book is a must read if you own, managage or operate an ad agency. I wish I had read this book before I started my agency!

                                    Traditional technology policy initiatives have had a limited impact in terms of creating a national system of innovation that stimulates industrial competitiveness. A new approach has to be pursued, based on the new technology policy paradigm that emerges in the industrialized world; keywords are path dependency, differentiated instruments, and new, network-based patterns of governance. Politicians are facing the difficult but not impossible task of coping with this challenge. Industry is facing a fierce pressure to adjust. New management concepts help in mastering this challenge.
                                    This volume investigates the reasons for the limited effectiveness of technology policy in the inward-oriented industrialization model of the past. It looks at the political structures that compromise the transition to the development model, and the restructuring effort within Brazilian industrial firms.
