    This books suffers from the modern "flashy textbook" disease plaguing modern texts. Altough the layout is good eyecandy, the text is overblown and could be half the length without damagaing the contents. I can recommend it for those interested in the field, but consider getting a smaller/shorter book.

    I am so pleased to have had the opportunity to study this book. It is extremely well wtitten, has explicit examples and provides a menu of wonderful supplimentary materials. Johnson and Christensen have reached the perfect meld of professional presentation and comprehensible material. Not only that, they are accessible for further elaboration. With the purchase of this book, the reader has a combination of knowledge and dedication to the education of research. It's one of the best I have come across in two years of doctoral level classes!

    Educational Research is definetly a book for someone who is getting serious about research, but has not had much past experience. This book outlines many of the concepts and aspects that need to be involved in both qualitative and quantitative research. Most importantly, it gives good examples of each concept. The only downside to this book is that the subject matter tends to get a little dry at times. It can leave the reader wondering when the current chapter will end. However, this aspect is easily overlooked. For anyone who as ever wanted to know the intimate details about research, this is a book for you.

    I am the first author of Educational Research: Quantitative, Qualitative, and Mixed Approaches (Burke Johnson) and I ordered this profuct (the Cram 101 Textbook Outline) for my text. The "outline" is nothing but pages of definitions, none of which are from my textbook. It seems that this company has a large database of definitions of words and generates sets of words and definitions from their database for any textbook on the market. The definitions are inappropriate. Furthermore, many additional terms/definitions are generated for each chapter that have nothing to do with the topics of the chapter. For example, in chapter one (Introduction to Educational Research) here are some words in the Cram101 book that are supposed to help students but actually do not appear in the chapter: learning, phoneme, loftus, long-term memory,neuron, cognitive therapy. This company has not examined the chapter. The material is not relevant and would probably cause students to perform worse on their exams. The book consists of nothing but these seemingly randomly generated lists of words and definitions and a blank page for students to write on; that's it. No outline, not summary of chapter material, no list of key chapter terms according to the text, no use of definitions based on the book. This is true for each of the chapters. I actually have the glossary for our entire textbook available online (on the companion website for this text) which is free and uses the correct terms and the correct definitions. In short, this Cram101 product" is a scam. I am shocked that a company such as this one can remain in business because it is unethical to suggest that this is a student guide of any sort. Furthermore, I am surprised that Amazon.com offers such a book for sale; I assume they are not aware of the problem. I plan on letting Amazon know about this problem, and hopefully they will take this "product" off of the market. Until they take this product off of their market, be sure NOT to purchase it.

The contributors argue that current legislation affecting pricing and regulation is increasingly less successful in dealing with market failures and externalities such as congestion, air pollution, noise and accidents.           Reforming Transport Pricing in the European Union includes an economic diagnosis of the pricing problem, proposals for new pricing and regulation structures together with a quantified assessment of the likely impact for several European cities and countries. The effects of traffic volume, cost, and overall economic welfare are computed for all forms of passenger and freight transport in urban and non-urban areas. The book analyzes various alternative policies including combinations of higher fuel excise, alternative parking policies, cordon pricing, electronic road pricing and emissions regulation. The research is based on a set of formal models which facilitate the analysis and comparison of results.

          The range of policies studied and the variety of methodologies employed will ensure that this book will be of great benefit to European and national transport policymakers, transport economists and transport consultants.

          A very good textbook which I needed to get hold of for a uni unit I am studying. It's a bit abstract in places but worth it, very interesting reading from an experienced statistician. It came a lot quicker than I expected too, in just over 1 week, compared to 4-6 weeks which various bookshops told me I'd have to wait. Great effort Amazon!

          Erich Lehmann is well known for his advanced statistical texts on hypothesis testing and estimation. he has also written a nice intermediate level text on nonparametric methods based on ranks. This book is another advanced text providing a thorough treatment of asymptotic (large sample theory) methods. It is very modern and includes such popular current topics as bootstrap and density estimation.

                  At last a book that distills the learning of the last 20-30 years in business management. Drennan and Penningtons book is unique in the simple and structured way in which it helps set out action plans for us all, no matter what our role in business. An irresistible feature is a checklist for carrying out an immediate evaluation of your company and its world class status. A special aspect of the authors approach is the people dimension and how to achieve world class performance through people.

                  It is also a great reference book for picking up and putting down. Its part of my toolkit for running businesses in different parts of the world. Well done to the authors!

                  The book focuses on the 12 key benchmarks that lead on organization to world class performance and results. We are using this book within our facility in order to help drive results. Best practices and continuous improvement are the emphasis. I strongly recommend this book for all organizations.                                                       What a book! Dr. Kroenke makes learning about MIS fun.

                                                      Finally, a book written for MY students and ME! Kroenke has incorporated hints and tips for making this "somewhat dry" topic truly "learner centered". Our students are coming to our Information Science Classes as Digital Natives. They don't need to learn "what computers can do", they need to learn how to make appropriate use of tools available for analysis, realize the potential of technology, and people. Emphasis is put on collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving. I especially like the "Guides" on Ethics and Computer Security. Bonus--Book available as an E-Text. I have adopted this text for my OnLine WebCT section at BCCC starting in May 2006! ALS (WebCT Certified Trainer)

I hope you will soon correct the erroneous impression that this review makes with regard to Using MIS, the book that was published in 2006.

                                                      2 out of 5 stars Some great fundamental concepts but lacks of actual insights.......1999-02-04

                                                      Kroenke wrote a book dating back to 1994. As a lecturer I was advised to use this book, among others I'd choosen myself. After an extensive reading of this book I had to admit that some chapters are very good, because they give students a fundamental insight in management information systems, but for the title being "Management Information Systems" the chapters about personal information systems (5-7) aren't worth reading them. Also the book lacks actuality, e.g. a 486-PC with 8 MB is mentioned to be necessary for running windows. An update or revision, with more emphasis on Management Information Systems would be valuable.

                                                        David Targett is the Professor of Information Management at Imperial College Management School, University of London. For eight years, 1990-98, he was the Professor of Information Systems and Director of the Centre for Research into Strategic Information Systems (CRSIS) at the University of Bath. Previously, he was at the London Business School and before becoming an academic he was an industrial engineer in the motor industry.

                                                        David Grimshaw is Senior Lecturer in Information Systems at Cranfield School of Management and was previously at the University of Leeds and Warwick Business School, University of Warwick. He has wide teaching experience and has taught in Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Portugal, Russia and Singapore. He has ten years' practical experience in information systems and as an independent consultant has advised many companies on strategic information systems planning and on geographical information systems.

                                                        Philip Powell is Professor of Information Systems at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Prior to this he was Reader in Information Systems and ICAEW Academic Fellow in the Operational Research and Systems Group, and Director of the Information Systems Research Unit at Warwick Business School. Before becoming an academic he worked in insurance, accounting and computing. He has taught in Southampton, Australia and Portugal and held a number of other posts overseas.

                                                        This book is a compilation of essays and case studies written by graduate students from three UK business schools. It's divided into four parts and comprises eighteen papers, each of which provides surprisingly mature insights into the topic being discussed given the relative experience level of the authors.

                                                        The major themes into which the papers are divided are: (1)Competition and Business Impact (consists of six case studies of commercial and government organizations), (2) Information Systems Planning (four papers), (3) Managing the IS Resource (four papers), and (4) Communications and Information (four papers).

                                                        While I carefully read each of the papers and thought the entire collection to be well researched and presented, my favorites are Part I, Chapter 6 "Technology opportunities for the music industry" (bear in mind that this particular paper was written from a British perspective and predates the issues that have arisen from the US DMCA), Part II, Chapter 10 "IT Based-business process redesign: theoretical foundations, examples and critical assessment" (the subject matter reflects my personal and professional interests and this particular paper is consistent with my own experiences and approach), Part III, Chapter 13 "Ensuring the disaster recovery planning process delivers business continuity - the experience of a major UK retail bank" (excellent material from a real case that exposes the scope and complexity of DR and BCP for organizations that require high availability), and Part IV, Chapter 16 "Appraising investment in IS infrastructure" (business-oriented and should be read by IT infrastructure managers).

                                                        If you're involved in an IT strategic planning initiative that is attempting to align IT to bushiness this book contains case studies and essays that will generate ideas as well as expose challenges. If you are a service delivery practitioner the material will give insights into business issues that need to be taken into account when developing a service level management approach.
