Book Description
Peterson's PSAT Success has been rewritten to reflect the changes to the PSAT, which will be administered for the first time in October 2004. PSAT Success provides complete test preparation for the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) exam taken by middle and high school students (most often tenth and eleventh graders). The National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a co-sponsor of the PSAT, recognizes students who achieve high scores. PSAT scores give students a chance to qualify for the NMSC's scholarship programs. Colleges also use PSAT scores to begin recruiting potential students. In the fall of 2004, the PSAT will change. The test will be aligned more closely to high school curricula and college skills. Peterson's PSAT Success will serve as a targeted complement to Peterson's New SAT Success, and will allow us to introduce our comprehensive test-preparation offerings to a younger group of students.

Surprised Too.......2007-03-08
I was surprised by the other reviews also. I know it was used in an psat study group and the kids liked it.
Helpful.......2004-10-07
I'm surprised at the negative reviews of this book. The PSAT has changed; reviewers may have been using an out-of-date edition, so who knows how accurate the reviews are now? As an author of standardized tests, I found this book to be a complete and helpful preparation guide for the new PSAT.
Complete waste of time.......2003-08-12
Due to the lack of PSAT prep books out on the market (most books are SAT and PSAT in one, lacking the writing section), i was ecstatic when i found this book, after all, the title is PSAT success... so i thought it would help me score well.
big mistake. there is probably 2 or 3 pages of review on each section, and only a short list of common errors (such as "do not use him and me want to go play") in writing. most of the errors are obvious and the list does NOT help at all. it doesn't even help you through the book exercise! i saw only about 15 pages of "teaching" material in the book and lots of error-filled practices.
only on the last page did i see that the peterson success series are for people who already know all the material and only want a some practice.
boooo! if i had wanted this kind of "review" i would have gotten the free ETS PSAT booklet from my guidance counselor... they're practically the same. boo!
Save your money.......2001-08-16
I bought this book with the hopes of increasing my PSAT scores from last year. However, after reading the entire text, I realized that I could have read this in sixth grade, and it still would not have been of any use to me. I found several errors in the text. Furthermore, most of the examples that the authors used in the book were simple and incomplete. Initially, when I bought this book, I was worried because of the seemingly complex nine and eighteen week plans. I know of few people who can afford to dedicate over six hours a week for eighteen weeks in addition to their basic responsibilities. However, I tried my best to follow through with the plan. It took me less than a week and much less than the three hours a day that the book suggested. Its main advice, which is to "read widely," was repeated incessantly throughout the entire text. Somehow, I do not believe that I needed to pay fifteen dollars for someone to tell me that. I would not wish this test prep book on my worst enemy.
Don't buy this book!.......2001-08-06
This book is the worst test prep. It actually has errors in the test that are unacceptable. It caused much confusion to have errors in the test which threw me off. Don't buy this book and save yourself the money.

Book Description
The Age of E-Tail shows how giants like Amazon.com and eBay dominate the e-tail space and helps aspiring e-tailers to use these lessons to create their own leadership position. Whether you are an entrepreneur, a retailer, a wholesaler or a service provider, The Age of E-Tail will help you develop the strategy and tactics you will need to prosper in the digital economy.
Customer Reviews:
Dated Hype.......2003-03-12
This book is completely dated. First published in 2000, this book is chock full of the internet marketing drivel that was typical of that era. Devoid of any relevant substance for the post dot-bust, I find most of this text reminiscent of the techno-babble speak heard all to often before the dotcom bubble burst.
Best reading for an international view on e-commerce.......2000-09-01
The book is very dense, but also really fun to read. If you want to get a perspective both on US and international examples, this is your best choice.
Worth Reading.......2000-05-28
Anyone considering a foray into online shopping will find Age of E-Tail a worthwhile read. The commentary is insightful in places. Useful summaries of each chapter are provided but are rather hard to read due to poor graphics.
The authors focus is towards European shopping online, learning from and adapting US examples.
As an internet professional based in Asia we are developing e-tail in multiple-languages and are perhaps more aware of cultural differences between online consumers.
I also found E-Shock 2000 (De Kare Silver) a great analysis for would be e-tailers. The 2000 edition is an update on the original version from 1998 which at the time was a remarkable analysis of e-tailing.

Book Description
Politics play a central role in all organizations but to this point they have largely been seen as a negative force. David Butcher and Martin Clarke expose this as a misunderstanding and show how political behavior is entirely endemic to managerial activity and how understanding and managing it can have extremely powerful positive effects. They provide an approach to managing politics by balancing personal and organizational interests and show how the centrality of politics to organizational life make it the ideal place from which to change existing patterns of power and influence. Essential reading for directors and senior managers.
Customer Reviews:
An eye opener!.......2007-07-21
Thousands and countless books have been written on business management but few could challenge the approach and view reflected by David Butcher in this book.
David pointed out correctly that most management books and those courses conducted by prestigious business schools have been using the traditional rational approach to minimise the possibility of offending their potential sponsors. This approach is also less likely to be challenged as that model has been taken to be the correct model and all successful businesses should follow rational model.
I admire David for putting down his pen on writing this book on how politics play a very significant part in business success. This book presented a comprehensive view on how constructive politics could be used.
I suspect that due to the limitation on the pages contained in this book and that David wants the reader to be independent in using their own intelligence and awareness in applying the principles presented here, the readers will be disappointed if they hope to find specific ways of obtaining success given that they are paying a high price for the book.
However, I find that once the reader has a clear concept on the role and importance of politics, they should be able to draw out their own agenda and progress towards business success.
Politics in organisations is the natural state........2002-03-11
Many managers feel uneasy about organisational politics. I knew it
could be helpful to understand but was never very sure how other managers across many organisations feel about politics. This book is great to read! It shows how
politics is central to being a manager. Positive Politics is all about
reconciling different interests and positioning causes. Once you realise that companies are
full of competing interests, lots of people who sometimes work together to produce
something worthwhile, well you can really start to make things happen.
This book will change your behaviour (like it describes in
chapter five!), you will build alliances and coalitions to get real work done
but in a constructive way. It does make a difference.
I think the book is really interesting. There is no management fad
stuff here-just good honest plain speaking about the reality of
management. Politics can be constructive!
Don't get left out.......2001-11-19
I was recommended this book by a friend who'd been on a course at Cranfield where these guys teach. I've been in management for years, and haven't read anything like it. It really got me going, I tell you. It was like a lot of common sense, but put in a way that gets you thinking. I mean, I've been using politics and all that stuff for years, but this got me to think about it, to understand why. Hoping to get on one of the courses next!(using the techniques they suggest, of course)
Get Political - in the right way.......2001-11-15
Wow - this is a real find. Read how to understand politics and make it work for you because you have to! Gets past the 'dirty dealing' stuff to show you just why management is all about politics and becoming powerful. Tell your friends - but not your enemies!!
Managers are politicians.......2001-09-23
This was really interesting. I hadn't thought of my work as a manager being all about constructive politics. The book shows you how thinking in these terms can help you work through all the power, relationship and influencing problems you face at work.
It challenged me to think much more about the company I work for and gave me practical ideas about how to improve my day to day work. I find myself thinking differently about my job and believe it or not I feel more relaxed about all the c**p that gets chucked at me because I can work out what is important and what isn't. I reckon I can it really make a difference...

Book Description
In this first monograph on the Russian cooperative movement before 1914, economic and social change is considered alongside Russian political culture. Looking at such historical actors as Sergei Witte, Piotr Stolypin, and Alexander Chaianov, and tapping into several newly opened Russian local and state archives on peasant practice in the movement, Yanni Kotsonis suggests how cooperatives reflected a pan-European dilemma over the extent to which populations can participate in their own transformation.

This book is the first exploratory examination and systematic presentation of the scientific applicability of the SCOR model by a Ph.D. and seasoned Professional who brings to the task a wealth of knowledge and industry relevant materials and perspectives.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent and outstanding book about Supply Chain Management and SCOR.......2007-08-08
This book by Dr. Poluha, a renowned SCOR expert who has published several books about this subject in Europe, such as Spitzenleistungen Im Supply Chain Management: Ein Praxishandbuch zur Optimierung mit SCOR, is remarkable for several reasons. First, it is dealing with a topic which is for quite some time and even more so nowadays of high interest, namely Supply Chain Management. Next, it is focusing on an approach which has got increasing attention in the past couple of years, namely the Supply Chain Operations Reference model (SCOR). And finally, it fulfills both high academic and practical standards as far as content and quality are concerned. Overall, it's highly recommendable for professionals working in the field of Logistics, Procurement or Manufacturing, as well as students and scholars looking into the subject of Management and Industrial Engineering.

Customer Reviews:
Good reference book, not well written, though.......2007-09-18
There isn't a single aspect to email marketing that is not being covered in 'Total E-Mail Marketing'. From list building to bounce handling, from legal constraints to result tracking, Dave Chaffey covers all the subjects you would expect to find in this book. Yet, is it an engaging read? Unfortunately, it is not.
There is no doubt that Dave Chaffey is an experienced online marketing professional. And he has made an honorable attempt to compress all there is to know about email marketing into the 248 pages of this book. So if you're looking for a reference book to quickly look up what you need to know about RSS or subject line creation, then this book is the right choice for you. However, if you're looking for an all-encompassing view on selling products or services via email, then 'Total E-Mail Marketing' will probably give you a hard time. Chaffey's style does not entice the reader to think about his subject matter. Instead he keeps piling up all the material he could get a hold of - test results, reports, studies, customer feedback - without providing any overarching philosophy or strategy to follow. If email marketing was as boring as reading through this book, I don't think anyone would volunteer to do it professionally.

Total E-Mail Marketing
Manufacturer: BUTTERWORTH HEINEMAN
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Paperback
ASIN: B000GXYKAW |
Book Description
This book provides business and government leaders a new way of thinking about security and information. Securing Business Intelligence identifies the changing way of thinking required by our new security needs and provides a compelling model for viewing security within a broader conceptual framework including innovative content/knowledge management practices.
Can your organization be attacked? Before the events of September 11, most organizations might have answered, no. Since then, this message has been reinforced by intellectual property loss, natural disasters, and power outages.
Recent events brought with it the near-universal realization that tighter network security; backup networks, increased security in knowledge management and the creation of disaster recovery architecture are absolute requirements. Securing business intelligence is the vital key to survival and success in our brave new world.
And so, in response to those events, industry and government leaders radically re-assessed their assumptions about what constitutes adequate security measures. With a sense of urgency, they proclaimed the need to secure networks, information, assets and people. A Department of Homeland Security was created, broad changes in regulations and security practices (most visible at airports) were instituted, and officials in all sectors urged the development of new security technologies.
This book will offer a unique perspective on security and management of knowledge resources. In particular, it will address a new and insidious danger that faces almost every business today: cyber threats. Businesses must be prepared to defend against such attacks, and to recover from them. This book also provides practical examples and important concepts for those who are concerned with both security and the competitive use of business intelligence.
