Yet, rather than rub our noses in a collection of anecdotal shortcomings, author Amy S. Tolbert, Ph.D. helps the reader build toward a jolt of self-realization that it all makes sense. It's the difference between a slap in the face and seltzer down your pants - both get your attention, but one's a lot less painful.
Often, when the topic turns to workplace diversity, many a business exec. would rather clear land mines than conduct a self-assessment of this litigious and explosive subject. Yet, author/guide Tolbert clearly knows of what she writes, capturing the essence of the fears and foibles that shroud the root truths of the issue. By gently prodding the reader into a clearer understanding of why we tiptoe around the diversity question, she reveals the important practicalities of proactively and positively embracing it.
