Cases in Corporate Financial Planning and Control provides a set of contemporary cases to supplement managerial accounting and finance courses at the senior undergraduate or graduate level. These class-tested cases, written during the 1990s, reflect many of the current challenges facing today's actual organizations. Chapters before each set of cases briefly overview relevant concepts. Cases vary in length from one to twenty pages. The shortest cases illustrate only a single concept, while longer ones reflect the ambiguity of real life. Cases in the later chapters build on concepts introduced earlier. Several cases involve organizations on the cutting edge of technology, experimenting with innovative techniques or management styles, or struggling to survive in a dynamic, global marketplace. All of the cases demonstrate how ambitions, values, beliefs, and even misconceptions of key employees in an organization influence financial planning and control.

Biomass currently accounts for about 15% of the global primary energy consumption and is particularly important as an energy resource in developing countries. It will undoubtedly play an increasing role in the world’s energy consumption.

What crops make up this large percentage of our energy resources? Where do they grow and what can be done to boost the levels of production? What impact does their cultivation have on the environment and development?

The book starts with an outline of the importance and position of primary production of biomass, and then of biofuel feedstocks. It then goes on to cover all the main potential energy crops. For each main species it gives a brief description, outlines the ecological requirements, methods of propagation, crop management, rotation and production, harvesting, handling and storage, processing and utilization, and finishes with selected references.

The text moves on to look at the regional distribution of energy crops, logistics systems, impact on the environment and climate and some social and economic analysis before ending with perspectives and conclusions.

Anybody whose work involves biomass production, whether as agriculturalist, farmer, producer, planner or policy maker will find this book to be an invaluable reference work, as will anybody working with renewable energy more generally.

I've got to improve a production assembly line and we are applying for the cellular manufacturing.
Since I hadn't have a knowledge for that, I purchased this book to learn how to apply and what to do.

The guidelines of how to apply was so helpful to me 'cause it was described step by step.

Excellent tutorial guide.......2001-08-09

This is an excellent tutorial guide to "one-piece flow" concept. For that purpose it is excellent. In its quest for ideological purity, it fails to consider the more difficult (and useful) problem of "optimal lot size", typical real world manufacturing processes. Had the authors put in a short chapter on that issue, I would have given it five stars.

In the recent debate over the growing poverty among blacks, attention has increasingly focused on the role of women heading households as a contributor to poverty. Throughout the debate, however, surprisingly little attention has been paid to the workplace. This study examines how structural change in the U.S. economy and particularly the rise of new service sectors have reshaped the work content, opportunity, and wages of one labor group--black women. Evidence for the study comes from two sources--statistical data from U.S. Census data on employment, particularly the Current Population Survey file, and interviews with black women in several representative industries surveyed in the book. The initial chapters in the book explore the contradiction between evolving trends in the economy, including the decline in manufacturing, and a government policy that continues to rely on the marketplace to provide jobs. Chapters 4-6 explore, in more detail, the outcomes of the shift from manufacturing to services. These chapters examine how sectors individually shape job markets and may in the process provide mobility and wage gains or intensify the ghettoization of women and the stratification of women by race. The final chapters examine case histories of several black women and look at the future of black women in the emerging workplace of the twenty-first century.

I speak around the world on lead generation and marketing strategy. Bob as with his other books did an outstanding job crafting "The Lead Generation Handbook" to give you a roadmap on how to master lead generation.

There are few resources I can think of where you can "easily perfect" your lead generation techniques for Business to Business marketing.

Bob gives you a step-by-step plan that anyone can follow in their quest to excel at creating leads for their products or services.

This Book is Getting Old.......2001-01-24

If you've read some of Robert Bly's other books on Direct Mail --you've read this one. As for chapters other than on Direct Mail, such as "Lead Generation on the Internet", I get the impression that this was written 10 internet years ago. Bly has some good points but you might want to look at his other books in paperback that will be more cost effective.

Great book by noted marketing consultant.......1998-08-23

Robert Bly puts out great marketing books... and this is no exception. He is particularly great in this book when he talks about business-to-business marketing. He covers how to make "offers" in your copy... particularly the tried-and-true "Free Booklet" offer. You will become an expert in these after reading this book. I also very much liked the section on marketing via seminars... and even marketing on the internet. I didn't bother reading the telemarketing chapter as I have his telemarketing book that was recently published. I recommend you pass on the telemarketing book... but DEFINITELy get this book. I have heavily underlined my copy. Here's a quick quote from his book on audio cassettes: "Audiocassettes are the easiest and least costly audiovisual medium to use as information bait pieces. Some marketers using audiocassettes think that briefer is better and limit the message to 10 or 20 minutes. But if the tape contains pure, useful information, it can be much longer. I have been successful promoting both my seminars and my consulting and copywriting services using cassettes on marketing and sales topics that are 30 to 90 minutes long." He goes on to point out that cassettes can be used to promote (sample) seminars at less than $1.50 per cassette. OK, there's lots of good stuff here. Well worth the $60. Bly is greatest in the printed mediums... but also understands how to integrate the other mediums quite well. He's just not an expert on telemarketing. Again, this book is rated a "MUST BUY."
