This book is an excellent collection of activities for working with classroom participants. Useful not only for ice-breakers, but for anytime you feel your audience needs a quick break. Only drawback is cost, which is pretty high for a paperback.

In recent years there have been increasing concerns about the potential health risks of genetically modified foods. Consumer perceptions vary between countries, but are probably most pronounced in Europe and least in North America. These have had a profound and controversial effect on the development of markets for GM products. This book presents a compilation of studies of consumer acceptance to GM foods. Theses studies utilized different methods and evidence including: price and expenditure data; experimental methods; "willingness to pay"; consumer attitudes; and economic consequences. Case studies cover a range of countries, including the USA, several European countries, Japan, New Zealand and Colombia. Chapters are based on papers presented at meetings of the International Consortium on Agricultural Biotechnology Research, held in Ravello, Italy.

Description:
New food products using genetically modified crops appeared in U.S. supermarkets starting in 1996, and consumers' perceived some risks. This paper examines the role of consumers prior beliefs about genetic modification and of diverse, new information on their willingness to pay for foods that might be genetically modified. We use data from economics experiments and show that participants who had informed prior beliefs discounted GM-labeled food products more highly than those who had uninformed prior beliefs. Uninformed participants were especially susceptible to information from interested and third parties. In contrast, informed participants were generally not affected significantly by new information.

Good book but a bit boring.......2004-05-12

This book is well researched, very good illustrated and has enough pages to keep you entertained for quite some time. However, since most of the book is concerned with submachine guns, and most submachine guns are alike anyway, most of the conclusions are the same too. The author keeps pointing out the same problems with regular SMG designs, wich is ok, but after reading the first 5 reviews the author's oppinion on some SMG features is well stated and does not need to be written down again, and again, and again...
However, when you are interested in SMG's and firearms in general, a whole lot of information is given from a practical point of view in this book, so i absolutely recommend buying this book, it is worth the money.

Excellent, well-researched work........1999-10-26

This is an excellent book. It is well written with plenty of good factual data. Rarely are we given the opportunity to hear a reasoned and well-researched discourse on the merits of various automatic weapons. I was well pleased to see that Mr. Mullins treats the machine pistol as a legitimate (but poorly understood) weapon. I do take exception to his fervent dislike for folding stocks. I don't view the SMG as a main-line general issue firearm, but rather as a piece for issue to those less likely to be in the line of fire. For such a person, ease of carry is critical if you want the weapon to be available when needed. Also, the weapon's high firepower is of particular use when such persons need it. I fully agree that a solid stock makes it much easier to control any weapon's fire. But if the cook will carry a folding-stock PPs-43, then it's better then the full-stocked PPsh-41 in the truck. I picked up my copy at Knob Creek and stayed up late Saturday night reading it. I now consider it one of my favorite reference books. Thanks!

Fire, Blood and Forty Below, set in Fairbanks Alaska in the 1980's, chronicles the first year of a new volunteer firefighter/EMT.

Written in journal entry style, the pace of this book is fast. Most authors seem to think that filling a book with detailed descriptions of clothing, food, and room decorations makes them more "literary" so they tend to do it - ad nauseum. That is not the case here, there are no extraneous words, every word is necessary and valuable.

Another thing that seems quite difficult for most authors to pull off, but that Alan does with great ease, is humor. I've read books that were supposedly humorous and had a hard time finding anything to even be amused by - throughout this book I was not only amused, but chuckling and laughing out loud!

Since the majority of our nation's firefighters are members of volunteer fire departments, this book would give anyone considering the field an idea of what to expect, especially in a rural setting.

Alan tells a compelling tale of his experiences as a Firefighter in Alaska.
This is a great book.

What was then called Just-in-Time is now Lean. Lots of the lingo has changed, but many of the core concepts have remained. Doc Hall's book captures some of the more subtle points that are missed today. This is a book that every lean leader should have read at some point. If you haven't, now's the time.

Robert Hall has scored a perfect 10 in terms of capturing JIT, TQM, Continuous Improvement, ERP all within the confines of one book. His style of writing is really absorbing. I was surprised to find that no one had written a review of this book. This book, if I recollect correctly, is a recommended reading for APICS's CRIM candidates. If you want to get a taste of all the proven manufacturing concepts and practices, then this book serves as a one-stop reading.

Flexibility seems to be the core concept of economic and educational change in our time. The promise of solutions to many problems at the individual, institutional, and national level evokes as much controversy as acclaim. This might be related to the different perspectives of actors and researchers involved in problem-solving in Vocational Education and Training (VET), where, on the one hand, solutions should be sought in key qualifications and transferability, in changing teaching and learning processes, while, on the other, political, institutional, organisational, and professional conditions are seen as the key interventions to build a responsive workforce on the basis of a re-engineered VET system. Consequently, flexibility in connection with vocational education and training and the labour market has several divergent connotations. In this volume, we treat flexibility as a system characteristic of VET in analyzing key conditions for flexibility: - economic context of VET and the organisational and institutional design of VET; - educational tools and resources for the flexibility of delivery and pathways at national level; - VET professionals as promoters of flexibility, mobility, and transferability. Systemic flexibility is seen as a promising educational answer to hyper-innovation and changing economic conditions in the emerging knowledge-based economy. Individuals, local communities, and VET systems should be able to adapt effectively to changing conditions in society, work, and labour markets.

Este es un libro muy útil para ilustrar como una hoja de cálculo o un manejador de bases de datos puede ser una herramienta tan útil al tomar decisiones administrativas. Aunque la edición es algo antigua, permanece vigente y los problemas son fantásticos para ilustrar la utilidad de la computadora. Me parece muy recomendable para un curso introductorio de informática administrativa.
