Think twice before you bite!.......1999-01-27

To paraphrase our guru Oprah, this book stopped me cold before eating another(chicken)burger. Mather has a feminine, conversational writing style that befits the subject and offers great insight into the aspects of bio-engineered foodstuffs. We are getting so far away from the basics as taught by our farming forefathers. Is it worth it? Or are we ensuring that there will be no future farmers in America? A big thank you to Robin Mather for going into the barns and labs to set the table of doubt for us.

An Excellent Training Tool! A Very Good Value!.......2007-01-08

This book and companion DVD are fabulous training tools for any sport requiring speed, quickness and agility. The materials are well organized and very illustrative, allowing you to customize a program for your individual needs. I've read other books like this and have been left wondering sometimes what to do, but these materials are clear and easy to utilize. Whether you're an athlete or a coach, this small investment will pay big dividends.

As a graduate student in the field and a competetive division 1 NCAA volleyball player, I found this book to be a great reference for improving my speed, agility and quickness. The pictures, explanations and DVD made it easy to incorperate proper form into each drill.
I would feel comfortable referring this book to anyone who wants to improve their game regardless of their sport or level of experience.
This is a great book, one that I will keep in my library forever.

Hate and Prejudice.......2007-06-20

Carla is a high school student who has never been very popular. Perhaps part of the reason is that she and her mother live in a very conservative and religious town in Arkansas. Her father left when she was a baby, and her mother is very outspoken about morality and consitutional rights. She is the head librarian at the local library and is constantly getting into fights with the ultra-religious people in town who think many of the library's books should be censored. Her mother's views have often made things difficult for Carla.

Now Carla is in love with Andy, a handsome and popular classmate and the son of the town's hardware store owner. Andy is perfect in Carla's eyes and so is his whole stable church-going family. When he finally asks her out and they become a couple, she couldn't be happier. But Andy has his dark side. When he finds out that there is a gay couple running an antique store nearby, he is furious and begins to harass them every opportunity he gets, going out of his way to deface their store and sending nasty and threatening letters. Carla knows that what he is doing is wrong, but now that she has the popularity and acceptance she's always wanted, will she be able to give it up in order to do the right thing?

I really liked Frank and Stephan. Their relationship wasn't perfect, but they were obviously very loving and devoted to each other. I liked that a gay relationship was portrayed so naturally. I also liked Carla's mom and the reason she gave for being so outspoken all of the time. The ending was excellent, too.

However, I'm not sure if this was a realistic portrayal of an entire town. I found it hard to believe that everyone would be so consumed by hate. The religious people in this book were a bit cliched, too.

Drowning of beliefs.......2005-04-28

The book, The Drowning of Stephen Jones is full of excitement.
This book shows you insight into a topic that is not talked about very often,
Homosexuals. This book tells a story of a young girl who gets placed in a very
sticky situation, she tries to put aside her morals to fit in with her friends. It is
a very insightful book. It's a good book to read in just a couple of sittings,
it was definitely a page turner. You will feel so involved with the character
that you wont be able to tell the difference between fact and fiction.

It could really happen.......2004-06-27

This is a great story revolving around a very christian and church going young man and his blinded by love girlfriend. Andy is working a hate campaign towards the gentle and friendly gay couple Stephan Jones and Frank Montgomery for no reason other than the fact they are gay and the fact that Andy is using his religion as an excuse to do so. And then when Stephan drowns as a result of a vicious joke, the truth about Andy finally comes out.

A very eye opening book. I did not realize that there are really people in this world that use religion as an excuse to act this way, but there really are.

This book will always be one of the best books. The reason I chose this book was because of the muder and lessons. This book is about a boy who commites hate crimes against a gay cuple, and his girlfriend standing up for what she believes in. My favorite character is Clara because even if she loves Andy she wants to go against his believes. My favorite part of the book is in the court room.

A banned book in Horry County Schools, Horry County, SC.......2002-06-26

I have problems with the stereotyping of Christians and gays in this book but I do not think it should have been banned from our county's media centers. It was as of June 12, 2002.

Even evangelical and fundamentalist Christians could have learned something from this book: walk the talk!!! You can't love homosexuals and call them names and inflict violence upon them.

Dr. Mohanty's entitled book about the blind men and the elephant parable sums his message well. The book is well written with organized thoughts, short introductory parables, and interesting perspectives on sustainability through his unique background in thermodynamics and chemical process control. The book gives the reader an interesting outlook on current constructs, social organization values, technological knowledge, and his view of a measure of world/community success. He offers a simple yet realistic solution to the likely ecological and sociological problems using diverstiy and non-violence.

Leadership selection in the major global economic organizations produced unprecedented levels of public conflict during the 1990s. The convention that awards the IMF managing directorship to a European and the World Bank presidency to an American sparked conflict between the United States and Europe as well as growing discontent on the part of Japan and the developing countries. At the WTO, successive conflicts demonstrate deeper shortcomings in governance as membership expands rapidly and consensus decision making fails. Protracted efforts to choose new heads of these increasingly important organizations have undermined their legitimacy and distracted members from their core agendas.

This selection process and its flaws provide a central theme for the analysis and prescriptions presented in this study, which focuses on the major international financial institutions (IFIs) and other global and regional multilaterals. Author Miles Kahler looks at the sources of conflict and presents recommendations for reform: in the short run, changes in the process, such as the use of search committees; in the long run, the dismantling of the US-European convention at the IFIs and changes in representation at the WTO. One Fish, Two Fish..........2007-05-18

The photography in this book is amazing. Beautiful, clear color shots are on every page of this book. The information is good and relevant. I was able to identify many of the fish I saw snorkeling in Maui in this book.

A good way to ID all those little fishies on the reef.......2007-04-17

I recently went to Hawaii and decided to do some snorkeling for the first time in my life. What a blast!! The variety and colors of fishes and corals are truly stunning and if your are like me you may not be satisfied with just seeing all the pretty colors, you may in fact want to identify the things you are seeing. If thats the case then this book is hands down the most affordable and reliable guide you can purchase when planning that snorkeling vacation in Hawaii.

I found the photos and the text to be very well done and informative. Each family of fish is given a good life history account and species accounts are nice and succinct. There is also great info on where to dive and snorkel while you are in Hawaii and also the fish names are given in English, Latin and Hawaiian.

For a novice like me this book was a great find and it helped me immensely in making some sense of the great variety of fish life I found on the reef. A word of warning however: while its great to be able to identify the fish species you are seeing don't get too caught up in trying to ID everything you come across. For one thing its next to impossible without having a much more technical book than this one. Still this is a great little introductory level book for appreciating the diversity of fish life in Hawaiian waters. Sometimes it is just as rewarding to relax and enjoy the spectacle of the reef life itself without having to try and remember the color patterns on every little fish you encounter. So, purchase this book if you are heading to Hawaii and enjoy the truly stunning world of the coral reef.

A Great Snorkelers Guide.......2007-04-02

This book is wonderful. It has beautiful, clear photos and lots of useful information. We are enjoying using it to prepare for a vacation to Kauai.

Why you might want to buy this book.......2005-08-18

I bought this book when I was about to go to Hawaii for the first time in my life, to snorkel for the first time in my life. The book made a huge addition to my experience. The pictures are more accurate for fish identification than the cards they give you when you rent snorkel equipment, and of course much more complete. I became personally acquainted with almost 3 dozen different species of fishes; I wouldn't have been able to identify most of them without the book. There is also some interesting background information. If you want to do some serious snokeling in Hawaii and don't already know your fishes, I think you should have this book.

Excellent book.......2006-01-06

Mr Lomas' book on Nikola Tesla is an excellent book. It details a little about Tesla's childhood, his mental problems and the relationships he had (or didn't have, if you want to look at it that way). If you are new to learning about Nikola Tesla, I would recommend this book. It explains in simple terms Tesla's most important contributions to civilisation and technology: the AC electricity system we use today and radio. The books dwells a little on Tesla, Westinghouse and Edison, as one reviewer mentions.

This book will not satisfy the scientific reader. For those of you interested in further details of Tesla's engineering and scientific work, buy one of the many excellent CD compilations of his works, patents, articles, letters, etc. I have the Nu Energy Horizons CD on Tesla which is magnificent. Also grab Tesla: Man out of Time by Margaret Cheney and Wizard: The Life and Times of Nikola Tesla: Biography of a Genius by Marc J. Seifer.

This book's purpose is some entertaining bed-time reading (or that's my impression). First time Tesla readers will love this book, as well as those who want a biography of Tesla that's written well and isn't too technical.

Too simple for my liking.......2003-11-20

Nicola Tesla, the subject of the book, was one of the true geniuses of all time. His tale is of amazing innovation, with poor commercialisation. He made electricity travel for many miles when Edison could only transmit a few hundred meters. His radios could transmit anywhere in the world when Marconi could only transmit a few hundred meters. He completely designed the AC electrical system, which without the world would not be the same. Tesla is an excellent case of lack of business sense.

Lomas carries a grudge against the likes of Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse, which is probably warranted in telling the story from Tesla's point of view. Much of the story is dedicated to describing the relationships between Tesla, Edison and Westinghouse.

This book isn't a great work. Lomas has thoroughly researched his book, although he has not referenced anything, although he does admit this. Some descriptions of engineering concepts could be a lot better. It is also relatively short. I found myself wanting more information. This book won't please the intellectual reader, who would be better off looking for a lengthier book. I enjoyed reading this book merely for the story of Tesla.

While I didn't enjoy this book that much it would be a very good read for children and teens, especially those with an interest in science. In general I recommend reading about Tesla, who is an amazing albeit forgotten character, and was responsible for the 20th century.

This book is very good. It shows how brilliant he really was. I would recommend this book to anyone. You go, Mr. Tesla!
