Great bathroom reading.......2002-04-16

If you ever wanted to grow your own treez or mushrooms, this is the book for you. Put it in the bathroom and read it when you have some time - worked for me!

all in all, a worthwhile book.......2001-06-20

I only want to touch a little bit on what this fine book has to say about growing mushrooms, which is surprisingly little; out of 21 chapters, only one is about growing shrooms, the rest are for growing weed. The cultivation techniques are simple and effective, but taken nearly verbatim from...., which in turn was an adaptation of the techniques by Oss and Oeric in the Magic Mushroom Grower's Guide, I believe. Buy this book if growing shrooms is an afterthought to lessening your chances of being caught growing marijuana, for that is where the author earns your money. Mr. Bunch is obviously knowledgeable about growing high-quality, clandestine weed, and is also very fun to read, but unfortunately he is little more than a novice mycologist. I highly recommend this book to anyone intending to cultivate marijuana, but for those intending to grow psilocybe mushrooms, I must refer you to the Magic Mushroom Grower's Guide and the Mushroom Cultivator, by Stamets and Chilton.

This is a brilliant very informative book ,it is set out in such a way that it is very easy to read and follow the techniques used.It explains how to grow marijuana and mushrooms and other more interesting information very well with everything you need to know.This is definately the best book i have read on how to grow mushrooms ever guarenteed, as all of the other books i have read on this subject have been to confusing to follow or not informative enough and therefore this is the only book on that subject alone with the marajuana growing also as good.

Many other pros in the marijuana horticulture writing field have described in detail the simplistics of growing, but Robert Bunch does so in a off-the-cuff fashion like I've never seen before.

The psychedelic-splashed book starts with a dedication that sent me to the floor in fits, "I would like to dedicate this book to Drug Czar Barry McCaffrey, Attorney General Janet Reno, Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala, our lying President Willie Clinton, the DEA and all of the other pieces of sh*t hypocrites out there I might have missed. When one of your family members suffers needlessly because of the ludicrous laws you create and enforce, you will then know the pain that caused me to write this book."

It only gets better from this point. He finishes the tribute to all prohibitionists, "May your ignorance and intolerance be rewarded tenfold."

Borrow, buy, or steal this book! It's a funny look at a really serious topic.

Extremely readable book for all levels and backgrounds........1998-11-25

This book is truly wonderful. Easy and fun to read. It is one of the few science books I have read that eschews all mathematical formulae and still does a great job fully explaining the material. I really appreciated the way he explains background material rather than just glossing over it. For example he does a great job explaining magnetic fields from a very basic level. Unfortunately the price seems almost prohibative, I received the book as a gift from a relative in England, I hope it is cheaper there.

The central focus of this book is the control of continuous-time/continuous-space nonlinear systems. Using new techniques that employ the max-plus algebra, the author addresses several classes of nonlinear control problems, including nonlinear optimal control problems and nonlinear robust/H-infinity control and estimation problems. Several numerical techniques are employed, including a max-plus eigenvector approach and an approach that avoids the curse-of-dimensionality.

Well-known dynamic programming arguments show there is a direct relationship between the solution of a control problem and the solution of a corresponding Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman (HJB) partial differential equation (PDE). The max-plus-based methods examined in this monograph belong to an entirely new class of numerical methods for the solution of nonlinear control problems and their associated HJB PDEs; they are not equivalent to either of the more commonly used finite element or characteristic approaches. The potential advantages of the max-plus-based approaches lie in the fact that solution operators for nonlinear HJB problems are linear over the max-plus algebra, and this linearity is exploited in the construction of algorithms.

The book will be of interest to applied mathematicians, engineers, and graduate students interested in the control of nonlinear systems through the implementation of recently developed numerical methods. Researchers and practitioners tangentially interested in this area will also find a readable, concise discussion of the subject through a careful selection of specific chapters and sections. Basic knowledge of control theory for systems with dynamics governed by differential equations is required.

Simply put: Worst book I have ever read. Period........2001-08-08

As a New Englander who is attending school in Rhode Island, I had hoped that this book would provide me with some interesting information on a little-understood political figure making a quite a rise through the ranks of the Democratic Party.

Boy, did I pick the wrong book.

First of all, West has no writing ability whatsoever. His vulgar, crass style is not appreciated and is wholly inappropriate. Frequently laughable, his "prose" disqualifies himself as any sort of an expert on the subject matter.

Second, the book is so fiercely partisan that it is factually incorrect throughout. It appears to this reader that West has little understanding of political issues and even less of how to explain political matters to an audience. This book was little more than preaching to the way-outside-the-mainstream radical leftist crowd. As a political independent, this book was too polarizing to be informative.

Third, there are many things Patrick Kennedy is and an angel is not one of them. How anyone can pretend that Kennedy's long history of reckless behavior is either a coincidence or is otherwise not his fault is foolishly naive. I think there has to come a point where West is going to have to accept that Patrick Kennedy might not be the unfortunate saint he believes him to be.

Bottom line: This was the worst book I have ever read. Where I had hoped to find intelligent, insightful commentary, I found a book that was vulgar and ridiculous with a gaping hole where integrity should be. I cannot imagine a publisher actually deciding to publish this book and I wish Mr. West would learn some manners and writing skills. Note to West: Partisan cheap shots do not equal quality writing outside of Brown University.

Fair account.......2000-09-05

I was initially alarmed at the slender length of the book, and had braced myself for choppy reading and hurried accounts. I was glad I kept an open mind, because this book easily surpased all of my content expectations.

West neither massacres nor coddles his subject, and I could actually identify with some of Kennedy's emotions and struggles to define himself. As a college student, I was very impressed that he was in the legislature while finishing up his degree---no easy feat in a state of any size. His personal health led him to identify with the disadvantaged and disempowered.

Tracing his childhood and young adulthood, West shows how the "un-Kennedy" Kennedy emerged to become the chair of the DCCC. For a public figure, Kennedy has managed to keep his life largely private and scandal free. He does not engage in the life style that has created headlines for so many other members of the family.

Although I am more partial to his father's voting record, I respect the niche Kennedy carved out on his own terms and was impressed with the many different things he had accomplished. This book is especially inspirational for young democratic politicians.

This book provides a highly readable account of the Kennedy's political operation. Generally sympathetic to the family, but hard-hitting at times. Good stories from people who have worked for the Kennedys as well as those who have opposed them. The average person would like this book!

Fair, In-Depth & Thoughtful Book About Rep. Patrick Kennedy.......2000-07-17

I expected the worst and was pleasantly surprised to get the best. This book by Prof. West is a fair, in-depth and thoughtful account of a young "celebrity" politician who challenged himself to succeed and so far is doing a pretty good job at it, according to Prof. West. The book gives an in-depth look at the early struggles of Patrick Kennedy, son of the famous Senator Ted Kennedy (and his likeable mom, Joan) and heir to the Kennedy fame. It chronicles the family and public life of this young man's rise to poltical power (number 5 Democrat in the House of Representatives yet he is only in his early 30's).

What I liked most about this book is that it was not a typical knee-jerk analysis of the Kennedy's and I felt truly showed Patrick Kennedy as a human being, committed public servant and rising star. Hats off to Prof. West for his research, his fair analysis, and his ability to tell a good story.

In just 141 pages the author shares her life in a remote section of Alaska. In this space the situations are exciting, sometimes life threatening or in several cases humorous and she manages to add recipes to fit each episode! The book moves quickly and is very readable. When I finished reading Recipe for Adventure I wished to know more about life in Alaska and especially about the life of this adventurous woman. I highly recommend reading it.

From the time I opened the cover, I found this book to be exciting and humorous. I couldn't put it down. The descriptions of the adventures made me feel like I was there sharing it with the author. The book keeps you at a high and exciting emotional level. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes adventure, or who would like some insight into life in Alaska.

Fantastic Elliott Wave book.......2006-02-21

This really is a great book. Neely did a great job of breaking down the wave theory into a series of clear rules.

But be forewarned; it's not an easy read my any stretch of the imagination.

This is one of the 2 books that fills in all the details of Elliott Wave research and history in the time period between Elliott himself and today's Robert Prechter. The other book is the Elliott Wave Writings of A.J. Frost and Richard Russell.
In short, this book is a very necessary addition to any serious student of Elliott and Socionomics. It takes you through the history of great market calls as well as providing insight into how the knowledge of Elliott Wave has gotten to be where it is today.

Harmful advice.......2003-02-22

This advice is terrible. It is worse than useless. Your Internet account cancelled will certainly be canceled if you tried to follow their instructions. There are legitimate methods of conducting business on the Internet. Business-2-business sites and e-commerce sites are good examples of this. But the "send unsolicited bulk emails" and "spam thousands of Usenet newsgroups" strategies that this book teaches are not only ineffective (it has been estimated that over 95% of spammers lose money in the long run), but unethical. UCE and spam take advantage of the Tragedy of the Commons: UCE and spam are not free-speech issues. Siegel and Canter should be ashamed.

Defensive and self-serving........2000-09-10

Written by the original King and Queen of Spam, one would expect this book to be the original book on marketing on the internet. Not so. Most of it is either a description of how they executed their infamous Usenet bombing runs, or discussion of marketing ideas that they themselves have never tried. For example, they discuss selling sex and porn on the net at length, but they have never been in that business. Additionally, Canter and Siegel feel that advertising on the Internet should be as natural and expected as in other media such as TV and radio but they forget that those media are funded by the advertisers, not by the consumers as is the case with the internet. They discount those who dislike and flame spammers as a lunatic minority despite the volume of hate mail they themselves received, and they don't consider the silent majority who will be just offended enough to make a point of avoiding them should the need for their kind of services arise. Overall, I'd rate this book as an excellent source of ideas *not* to try if you're going into business online. It probably has more value to net.sociologists as a sort of evil relic than to e.business types.

This book is a "must have." Lots of big business types, especially sysops and network administrators, will tell you that you'll lose your internet account and piss people off if you follow the book's instructions. That may be. But the internet is changing and people are making a lot of money on it right now whether the nay-sayers like it or not. There's no stopping it; you may as well join in!
