Goal-setting is the focus of subsequent worksheets: the reader learns the importance of agreeing upon quality goals with the other parties involved. Additionally, methods for reaching those goals are discussed.

Later exercises help to establish steps for measuring quality performance. Parallels are drawn between one's personal quality standards, and quality standards in the workplace. Guidelines are presented for implementing and supporting quality programs at work.

More adventure books should be like this. In a genre rife with overbearing machismo and braggadocio, this book, originally published in 1907, is a refreshing and at times hilarious take on exploration. Robert Dunn reveals the bickering and frayed nerves, petty insecurities and trivial jealousies that existed alongside the courage, discipline, and determination exhibited by each member of the 1903 expedition that attempted the first ascent of Alaska's Mt. McKinley, the highest mountain in North America. Without downplaying the difficulty of the task, Dunn's honest assessments of the men involved reveals the complex motivations for undertaking arduous exploration and the human weaknesses that are revealed in the process.

The group was led by Frederick Cook (who was later shamed for faking a discovery of the North Pole); Dunn served as the group geologist and second-in-command. He was also an aspiring journalist, and true to his muckraking roots, he makes no apologies for his brutally frank and often unflattering depiction of the party and events. "To distort or hide, in deference to any custom, or so-called sense of pride or honor, simply is to lie." His companions undoubtedly would have appreciated less sincerity, but readers will find his unflinching accuracy most appealing. For instance, he writes of Cook: "I cannot believe he has imagination; of a leader's qualities he has shown not one." Brilliant insights from a master.......2002-04-30

Dunn takes the cake from the grave! While the Crook Society scrambles to promote the old faker Dr. Cook, and Bryce tries to sue Washburn for his book about the McKinley fraud we have Dunn's magnificent work back in print.

Skip the modern intro (how ridiculous!) as Dunn's razor sharp writing needs nothing added. Was Cook a fake? Of course! And far worse than that - he is seen here as a sociopath, a failure, a miserable little worm who couldn't lead a horse to water.

It is wonderful that publishers are putting books back in print such as this one, or the Denali (Deception, etc.) triple reprint. In addition to this group we now have Washburn's brilliant images that say more in a few photos than Bryce did in 100 pages.

A fascinating study of an expedition gone to [junk], by the man who taught everyone else how to "tell it like it is".

Predecessor to Into Thin Air.......2002-01-22

If you've read Krakauer's "Into Thin Air" you can only come away from reading "The Shameless Diary...." thinking how it must have been the model for the frankness and criticism he wrote of himself and his fellow climbers in his blockbuster Everest disaster story. Besides the no holds bared frankness of the author's daily reflections of the events of this expedition the reader is let into the authors inner mind as well as the levels of, what can only be considered, animal brutality required to actually complete such a journey, and, which could have only been common, yet previously unexposed, to all such expeditions of it's age.

Throughout the reading I was constantly contemplating how I could have stood up to the rawness of nature that these men withstood. My own meager climbs of the major peaks of the White Mountains of Vermont, and the high peaks of the Adirondacks and Catskill Mountains of New York all paled in comparison to what these men accomplished during any one day of this expedition. A recent winter day hike to Windham High Peak, NY now seems like a child's day in the sun in reflection.

Wow...1000 words.....I'd need a library to tell you about Zane Bond........I've known this gent for over 30 years and he is a Michelangelo..still in the works.I have travelled the USA with Zane....certainly an unusual way of perceiving life. I would reccomend this book to those who are looking for an escape from the mundane.Power packed with rip-roaring anecdotes.I would safely say you will enjoy the book in its entirety.Zane told me he will refund anyones money 10x if they donot think this is the greatest book ever published!!

Zane Bond has the unique ability to wander through the fields of his mind unhindered by all the mazes, between sunny knolls & mud flats, through happy times and those which are painful. A life & death struggle to survive the mental illness of manic/depression.

Reviewing a memoir about a manic/depressive's story is a challenge. Be forewarned this book is one helluva fast-forward ride!

I guarantee during the time it takes you to read A PROPHET OPERATING AT A LOSS, you will not see your life in the same way, & perhaps, never the same way again!

For the most part, Zane Bond is coherent & articulate - until you think about what he has written & then you get a whiff of seething synapses & the taste of burnt brain cells.

Zane Bond has a way with words & has been considerate of his readers by keeping his paragraphs short, even though the leaps between them sometimes seem like black holes. His chapters range through a forest of memories, philosophies & insights.

While I occasionally became lost or overcome, A PROPHET OPERATING AT A LOSS is a remarkable effort that will leave you breathless & thinking! What more do you want from a book?

"out of the box" reading!.......2002-03-17

This book offers an interesting perspective into a distorted mind, similar in fashion to the movie "A beautiful mind". Normal people have a hard time imagining the way a schizophrenic or manic depressive mind operates. This book opens a window into the thought processes of Zane Bond, who suffers from manic depression and an odd sense of humor. He frankly discusses his travails over the years to overcome the urges. Zane Bond is not a genius like John Nash, but nevertheless if you found the Nash story insightful, you'll find this one equally so.

After reading Stepping Out of the Bubble a year ago, I went back and read it again for a second time. I was able to pick up even more information this time around that helped me understand and overcome some of my own internal conflicts. This is a book you can read at any point in your life and always find information that pertains to that particular moment. Krehbiel has a way of explaining things that others may consider unexplainable. Whether you are a student, a teacher, or just a guy like me, this book can and will change your life.

For me, "Stepping Out Of The Bubble" was reminiscent of the renowned books of author, M. Scott Peck, in the style of presenting profound insights into sensible, easy-to-understand language and clear ideas an average person can relate to. Practicing Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist and author of "Stepping Out Of The Bubble", James Krehbiel proficiently shares a portion of his expertise, condensing great weight into accessible and workable solutions for a more fulfilling life's plan.

The "bubble" represents our security and comfort zone, but it is also the inner place where we store the pain of our past experiences and the unpleasant reality of that not being made conscious which keeps us bound in unhealthy and self-defeating patterns. Staying within this bubble limits our emotional responsiveness as we numb ourselves to the coexistence even as unresolved issues unconsciously filter forth. To step outside of the bubble is to courageously examine the contents in all honesty and to face life's reality outside of the bubble. The section regarding kids and parenting was exceptional, in my opinion, and I found many points about discipline that made much sense. Also appreciated was the section relating to religion (dogma) versus faith (spiritual) as well as what needed to be said about pop culture.

I enjoyed reading "Stepping Out Of The Bubble" and would recommend it to anyone. It is enriching and inspirational.

Stepping Out Of The Bubble by James P. Krehbiel, Is an outstanding book on Counseling Therapy. Krehbiel, is able to put life patterns and fears into perspective so that the lay person can fully understand the mystery that most think is behind counseling. His approach to show that so much of what we seek answers for is within ourselves and with the right counsellor we can become free and step out of the Bubble or Bubbles that a lot of us are in.

This book should be a gift to every teen and their parents, no home should be without it.

Gaining Courage to Live Outside of the Bubble.......2006-02-25

James P. Krehbiel's Stepping Out of the Bubble was a fascinating read. I found myself underlining various passages. His explanation of how we get stuck in the bubble (comfort zone), and how we find our way out is powerful. It provided me with hope as I move through my own personal journey. I found myself experiencing an emotional reaction to many of the case examples and concepts he explored. He definitely hit some "hot buttons" in my life. But Mr. Krehbiel also provided specific guidelines and tools for stepping out of the bubble. At one point he says, "Courage can be defined by those who live outside the bubble as opposed to those who live in it. I like to compare stepping out of the bubble to wading into the water."

His chapter which includes ideas on multidimensional thinking is appropriate in today's political climate. He indicates that true dialogue takes into consideration the appreciation for differences in opinions. He makes some profound statements about pop culture's affect on the lives of today's children. He also gives parents tools and resources for assisting their children in bettering their behavior. The book ends with a resounding "yes" to life with a hopeful, powerful way of perceiving and reframing life's problems. This was an excellent book!

My Review of a Great Book.......2006-02-23

"Stepping Out of the Bubble : Reflections On the Pilgrimage of Counseling Therapy by James P. Krehbiel is an amazing and outstanding book that provides help and direction to the many people that are suffering from problems described in this book.

I was amazed at how many of the problems and challenges, that the author writes about, are problems and challenges I have seen many people suffer with.

The counseling theory and practice information in this book provides a direction for people that have a problem and are willing to go to counseling and risk moving forward in their journey toward finding personal growth and development, and eventually stepping out of the bubble.

Many people have problems and challenges that they never seek help for and they and their loved ones continue to suffer. This book goes a long way in bringing the thought of counseling to people and helping people to better understand the counseling process.

To author James P. Krehbiel thank you for writing your great book. I am convinced your book will help many people and because of your book many more people will step out of the bubble. I recommend this book very highly and also feel it would be a great college text.
