The commonly used financial statements--balance sheet, income statement, and statement of changes in cash flows-- focus on a firm's financial structure and performance over a defined period of time. Although they may conform to generally accepted accounting standards they still fail to provide other information that is equally important to achieving true full disclosure. Riahi-Belkaoui proposes remedies for this neglect by taking a close look at other types of statements: the inflation, value added, employee, social performance, and human asset reports. His book is a concise, easily accessed summary of all types of reports, for practitioners, and especially useful as a text or review for students in graduate level courses in financial management and accounting. The author begins by examining the traditional statements. He shows how they fail to disclose vital information on the measurement and impact of inflation; the measurement of total wealth generated by the total production team, not merely its return to stockholders; necessary information on employees, and about them, that can be useful in management decision making; the measurement of social costs and the benefits attributable to the effects of organizational behavior on the environment, and the measurement of the value of human assets. He takes up these failures and neglects one by one and provides concise discussions of the other, less widely used statements that could remedy them, statements that could provide a fully useful display of an organization's financial well being, if they were better understood and commonly available.

Expressing my opinion of Mrs. Schmidt's book in words is like being asked to explain why I love my mother, my dog, ice cream or back rubs.

But that's because I'm a native plant enthusiast. To the lover of pansies and petunias, agapanthus and juniper, this book would hold little charm or interest.

However, if you have any interest in California natives, Mrs. Schmidt's book is essential to your gardening library. In it, Mrs. Schmidt shares with readers her years of experience gardening with California's garden-worthy native plants. Mrs. Schmidt discusses hundereds of trees, shrubs, ferns and wildflowers, detailing where each is found in the wild, the conditions it needs to flourish in the garden, and the plant combinations which will show it to greatest advantage. Mrs. Smith's writing is crisp, vibrant, and incorporates enough technical jargon to satisfy the botanists without alienating beginners.

Were I forced, at gunpoint, to make one criticism of the book, I would have to say that the color photographs are somewhat amateurish-looking. I have seen other books with prettier color plates, but have found none which rival Growing California Native Plants for its overall usefullness and enjoyability.

Excellent authoring of results oriented sales tools!.......1999-08-05

Ron Karr has brought together a wide range of sales tools focused around getting results. This is not a book about sales philosophy, but "in the trenches and on the street" type of sales strategies and techniques to close deals. I especially like chapter six on the customer interview process. It is really more about the discovery process thru what I call "power questioning" and I share these ideas with sales reps whenever I have the opportunity. Karr's ability to teach the customer interview process is excellent and his sales tools are bound to get results!

Biophotonics is a rapidly increasing field of current scientific research and applications, based on the discovery of biophotons, a permanent, weak photon current emanating from all living systems. The biophoton emission reflects some, if not all, of the essential biological and physiological activities in biological systems. Biophotonics provides a powerful tool for investigating these electromagnetic interactions. The theoretical approach requires holistic models of living systems, rather than local analytical models. Consequently, these new insights into living matter create a new basis of "integrative biophysics" that is concerned with the questions of regulation, communication and organization of biological systems.

Most of the specialists working in this interdisciplinary field of physics, biology, biophysics and medicine are associated with "The International Institute of Biophysics" (IIB), in Neuss, Germany, where basic research and possibilities for applications are coordinated. The growth in this field is indicated by the increase in financial support, interest from the scientific community and frequency of publications.

Who would have believed this information was available 20 years ago. This is a deeply scientific book, not for casual reading. A must for those that like to think they are in the top branch of information givers.

From diet to breeding habits, dwelling preferences, discussions on internal organs and just so much more of the many different species of the iguana. Burghardt and Rand have complied (edited) a tremendous collection of researchers work. Never have I seen the pooling of so many different resources to come to the understanding of a reptile.

If you think you are one of the "smart" people when it comes to the iguana species, this is a MUST HAVE publication.
