All the little tests are not helpful at all and very subjective...
The book is not helpful in regards to how to and what to look out for when going independent - and starting one's own company is not the same as going independent as contractor .
Probably tries to please too many different purposes and fails.

I'm from Brazil, and i bought this book for general guidance on what to do on certain situations... i thought it wouldn't have in-deep explanations about the international music markets... but it does. All the rules and solutions apply here. It's a great aquisition for any musician out there, anywhere in the world, who has the will but is stuck in the day-to-day life of being an artist nowadays.

This book gives a lot of very practical hints and shows how to plan your musician's career no matter in what country you live. It is a must for students that don't have self-promoting as a faculty and want to be completely prepared for their independent carrer. It lets you understand music market today. Awesome And Informative!.......2006-11-04

I found this book (The Self Promoting Musician) to be inundated with a lot of useful information and advice on self promotion. Scenarios and situations that I've never considered are touched upon within its pages. Also, it's the most expansive book I've ever read on the current route that the music industry is taking...which was very indepth and eye-opening for me.

I also attended Berklee College of Music (where the author works), and while I was a student, I found it to be the most challenging and innovative musical experience I'd ever had. I also found that the teachers there are some of the best in the world and most importantly, the music industry. I'm sorry that Mr. Greenberg disagrees

In what century was this book written?.......2006-08-03

I knew that this book was in trouble when the author recommended sending demos on cassette tapes rather than CDs because most people don't have CD players available. In one chapter he says it's important to use professional printers and graphic artists, and in the next say to use your PC to design and print your packages.

Virtually everything in this book is out of date. I'm not surprised, as the author teaches at Berklee College of Music. When I was a student at Berklee, I realized most of the teachers had little or no professional experience. Most had been students at the school and were hired to teach immediately upon graduation. I don't know if that's the case with this author, but it is obvious he is completely out of touch with the state of the music business today.

As soon as I bought the book I could not put it down I read it from top to bottom non-stop. This book is an easy read and very applicable. I highly recommend this book to gain greater insights in the Music business or any business. It was a great buy along with a couple of manuals purchased from Musicbrains.net entitled the Indie label Kit on Amazon, Music business 101, future of music and Guide to releasing an independent record by Tim Sweeney.

This book is a well written, moderately detailed description of many of the secret societies that may sound intigueing, but haven't been gone into in any detail until now. a must have if you play or GM in this system. lots of good stuff, get a copy before they are gone, because FASA has ceased to publish the entire system, andit will be sorely missed by its fans

I am pretty sure even exam 706 (of which I did not review the objectives) will not ask for ALL the parameters for the dbm? It's unweidy to paste a total of 12 pages on the dbm cfg parameters.

It's a certification book - please focus on the certification objectives ONLY.

In the world of large commercial databases, there are really only two choices: IBM's dB2 and Oracle. While MySQL and Postgres are increasingly try to break up this cosy duopoly, they are still small players. So as a professional DBA, or an aspiring one, dB2 is a good choice. Given this, IBM provides several levels of certification. Sanders here supplies the official study guide for the 701 and 706 exams.

Thumbing through this book, you see lots of SQL commands. But a lot of the SQL appears to be syntax specific to managing dB2. A dB2 programmer/user can largely deal with generic SQL. But for you, that's not enough. The value of this book is heavily in the specifics of dB2 and how to optimise its performance.

The questions and answers in each chapter are at least as important as the text. If you are at all serious, you MUST tackle these. Otherwise, you've just discarded half the value of the book. Of course, the actual questions in the exams will differ. But by being able to do the book's problems, it forces you to clarify your understanding.

My own SQL background is mostly with MySQL. So most of this book is new to me. I tried a couple of chapters and their problem sets. Not bad. The problems are not trivial. But the volume of material in each chapter is succinct enough to be doable in a few hours.

Excellent Certification Exam Study Guide.......2004-03-17

If you are serious in moving through the DB2 certifications, you will find the book to be a helpful addition to your library. I certainly wish I had this reference when I was studying for the certification exams.

The book opens with a detailed roadmap on DB2 certification that explains the various tracks. It also has a good explanation of how to register for tests and how the tests work. Understanding how the tests work can save you valuable time on test day.

The book is arranged around the test sections, which seems like a good way to study for the tests. A certification study guide could easily be dry, but Roger's good use of white space, pictures and diagrams help keep the book easy to read. The questions in the book seem so close to the real thing, that you may think you are taking the exam.

Archaeological evidence continues to play a critical role in debates over the origins of anatomically modern humans. The appearance of novel Upper Paleolithic technologies, new patterns of land use, expanded social networks, and the emergence of complex forms of symbolic communication point to a behavioral revolution beginning sometime around 45,000 years ago. Until recently, most of the available evidence for this revolution derived from Western European archaeological contexts that suggested an abrupt replacement of Mousterian Middle Paleolithic with Aurignacian Upper Paleolithic adaptations. In the absence of fossil association, the behavioral transition was thought to reflect the biological replacement of archaic hominid populations by intrusive modern humans.
The contributors present new archaeological evidence that tells a very different story: The Middle-Upper Paleolithic transitions in areas as diverse as the Levant, Eastern-Central Europe, and Central and Eastern Asia are characterized both by substantial behavioral continuity over the period 45,000-25,000 years ago and by a mosaic-like pattern of shifting adaptations. Realpolitik for the real world.......2001-04-04

Maybe you won't get that warm feeling like in John Maxwell's book, nor as academically rigorous as Richard Thaler's works, BUT you will learn how to get things done in the real world. Dale Carnegie this ain't, but if you're at all involved in the Byzantine corporate political environment of today (and who isn't?), this stuff helps. Nuff said. Not the most Machiavellian book on the subject, but adequate for the advertised purpose.

The book should be re-titled.......2006-11-30

With the cost of over $60 and having a book that can cover so shallow is a 'rip off'. I think the book should be re-titled as `Idiots for Internet Security'. Even the books from IDG Idiot Series cover more in depth than this one. I spent 5 minutes and dropped this book to the bottom of the shelf. Most titles have a discussion of less than a page and some of them are not even relevant - such as `atomicity'. To be fair, the book should having a warning sign- `Strictly for non technical people'.

Great book for multi national CIO's.......2000-09-04

Mainly concentrates on the global aspect of Network Security issues. Very good for people writitng policies for the enterprise. Helps CIO's to get a perspective on what could go wrong in their geographically scattered network and provides insights into how to address those issues.
