Excellent Overview of Structured Poducts.......2001-11-01

Had I only had this book at the beginning of my Sales career, life would have been much easier. The book is unique in many ways. First, it's the only book I know of which covers such a wide range of products. Second, product examples are often supported by money-flow-diagramms (e.g. Investor, Issuer, Swap Desk). Never seen that before. Third, termsheet-like examples are given to most of the products for better understanding. In this way, it's a book for investors/sales alike. It's simple and clear with no math at all. Level: Beginners - Advanced. The pro will miss more and up-to-date products, but how can a book provide that?

Topics coverred like: Interest rate / Currency / Commodity / Equity / Credit / Inflation / Insurance linked Notes. Taxation and Market for Structured Products.

Good from far ... far from good.......2001-04-12

While it will be sufficient as a primer for entrants to the arcane world of the various branches of OTC derivatives especially in the fixed income area ...

I suspect that many topics & inferences were plugged in from the author's many other publications which had been pretty prolific & churned out every other year ...

I will only recommend it as an introductory book for the student or new professional, but probably not relevant if you are a serious (or half serious) practitioner looking to keep abreast with the competition or the academics, and hoping to find something which you already do not know nor hear about.

Excellent Reading For All........2007-01-27

I read this book when I was in Middle School, quite a few years ago now, and I found that I related well to the main characters attitudes and feelings. Besides that, I never forgot the story even though I wasn't able to find it again until years later. I never gave up searching for the book that left such an impression on me. It is a shame it is out of print and is so hard to find.

The characters become real as you read about them and their circumstances. The book is read through Mary Belle's point of view and Patricia Hermes makes it real and believable because although Mary Belle, along with her brother Ariel, are incredibly mature and responsible for their ages, they don't know more than someone their ages should. Plenty of authors have written through children who are way more advanced for their age than they should be. It's not a bad thing if there is a reason for it, as in the case of Artemis Fowl, for example. Reason: Genius. No more explanation needed because that is part of the story. Having a younger main character completely knowledgeable about things outside of their world and experience doesn't make sense without a reason. Anyway, I digress. We feel for Mary Belle and Ariel because we can see that they are learning as they go and are forsaking normal kid things to to help keep house so they can stay together.

I would encourage everyone to read this book, as it is a very good story. Especially children 8 years and older. It has very good lessons about what being a family means. The three siblings do not always get along, but they always work in the best interest of one another. They're also responsible children who make good choices, or who always try to.
Ariel is a good role model for young men. He takes care of his siblings by earning money and still studies hard to achieve good grades. He shows kindness to his sisters even when he is under stress.
Mary Belle works hard to support her working brother by carefully managing the money he earns. She figures out their priorities and none of the children complain about not having new clothes or toys. She also looks after the youngest child Callie and works to shield her from their tough times.
Callie, at seven years old, has a lot to handle for her age and isn't really sure she understands the situation. She continues to hope for their mothers' return and gets annoyed by Mary Belle's insistance that she keep it quiet, but she tries to be helpful as well.

Perhaps this story isn't written in the style of many other children's books, but the writing is effective, the characters believable, and the story is good.

one of my favorite books..........2005-05-26

I loved reading this book; it was so filled with emotion that I never wanted to put it down. It is rare that I find a book that interests me, especially as much as this book did.

Mama, Let's Dance.......2001-06-04

This book is about three kids: Ariel, Callie, and Mary Bell. About six weeks ago their mama left them them alone. She left them only 50.00 because that's all she could afford. Soon, Callie gets sick, really sick and is taken to the hospital. She doesn't make it and Mary Bell is so upset! I loved this book and I encourage you to read it!

sad story.......2001-05-24

This book is about a girl named MaryBelle who takes care of her younger sister Callie after her mom runs away, leaving her, her brother and callie to take care of them selves. The people in the town start to get suspicous asking were her mom is and why she dosnt come out side and she tells them that she sick , I thought that this book was sad but yet heart warming i recomend it for everybody.

Very Moving Book.......2001-01-20

I have read this book a number of times, and it makes me cry every time. As the reader, you can only feel compassion for these deserted children. It is beautifully compiled and has become one of my favorites.

Great Series.......2006-05-03

Too bad they're having difficulty publishing these days. This particular volume has many interesting bikes and trikes and accessories and so forth, though it all reads more like a collection of sale brochures. Also, they'd included a photo of the Shuttle Bike Kit which allows your bike to float and tread water (!!) but they didn't have an article on the novelty item itself (!!!)....

Otherwise, a great read. Yes, it's very entertaining, all the same. I especially love their green cycle-as-lifestyle ethos. Maybe this is all still quite ahead of the times...many products covered are apparently no longer available, the companies having folded.

What a great book.......2001-03-16

I bought this book because I ride a recumbent and there is very little in the way of books on the subject. It is a British publication which is dedicated to bikes but with considerable emphasis on recumbents. If you are interested in recumbent bikes, trikes and others, this is a fascinating exploration of the topic. It has large, full color pictures on almost every page and it is something which will serve as a reference and enlighten readers with its comprehensive treatment 'cycling alternatives'. Definite European flavor. Highly recommended. I very much enjoyed reading and rereading this book.

Early aviation in France.......2007-07-08

This book is not easy to read. The book is vital reference source for early aviation enthusiast. The book covers a period when aviation was neither means of transportation or weapon. Aviation was newborn expensive sport, and pretty dangerous one. Famous engineers and passionate newbies had an even start, everything was new and untried. The book briefly covers this multitude of approaches and design concepts, providing overall picture of the first decade of heavier than air aeronautics in France. Gearheds will ask for a book with a lot more technical details, some will ask for more emphasis on people and circumstances. These books are yet to be written. There is substantial cornerstone for future builders ...

Commonly, we think of soil as just a medium to walk above or build upon. If we had the ability to shrink ourselves to the size of a soil particle, we would be amazed at the vibrant life and ever-changing interactions taking place all around us. The activity, physical changes and diverse life forms would overwhelm the senses. Soil moisture fuels this activity. The soil and water dynamic together as one entity is both the introduction and ending of a novel on the living. Where time is a method used to record events, the soil-water dynamic is time. Together, they tell us where we've been and point us in the direction we need to go. Retaining Soil Moisture in the American Southwest is a culmination of the author's extensive interest in soil and water interactions, soil remediation, land application of treated wastes, conservation, air, soil, and water quality issues, and an overall appreciation for improvement for the quality of life. Awareness of the players in the soil-water-plant continuum aids in understanding the processes that either reduce or conserve soil moisture. The dry climate of the American Southwest demands this understanding to ensure that waters which may have taken hundreds to thousands to millions of years to amass are not wiped out in the span of a generation. KELLY J. PONTE obtained her A.A. degree in Liberal Arts from Cape Cod Community College in Barnstable, Massachusetts, and earned her B.S. degree in Plant and Soil Sciences from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. don't count on learning anything useful from this book that you couldn't get from a basic soils textbook.
