    I read with interest the various reviews surrounding this book and had difficulty reconciling them. What I noticed upon a closer look is that the amazing reviews giving it a top rating were all written basically the same day or two and called the author by her first name.
    Regardless, the divergence of opinion and subject matter enticed me to purchase the book with a view of using it for my media class. I was very disappointed. These concepts were new and innovative in the 70s and early 80's. The book offers little originality and nothing original in its handling of the gender minefield. Its time for a fresh young approach to this area of communication. Ms. Annis'approach is dated and is not what I would relay to my young media college students. My advice is to pass.

    I first met Barbara at a Women In Technology conference several years ago as she offered a keynote on this very same topic, and found her to be remarkably bright ... but what I can't escape in reading this book is the overweening sense that it isn't breaking any new ground. It seems to me that we were discussing these very same issues in more dynamic form back in the 1970s, when Betsy Lehan Harrigan's "Games Mother Never Taught You" became my mentoring bible on communication between the sexes. I'd really like to like this book more, but just can't get past its very "white" take on women in the marketplace.

    This book answered a lot of questions I didn't even know I had. It has given me a much better prospective on how the different sexes think and act. I am now using this information every day at both work and at home, with improved results. This book not only points out the differences, but explains why we think differently and how to use this information to interact. A must read for succeeding at work and at home.

    Barbara is so dead on. I said to my wife when I finished: "If I had written a business book on gender, this would be what I'd want to write." It's straightforward. Practical. What I think is most important in the book is that she doesn't talk down, as if business people need excessively simplistic ideas. Barbara lets herself be wise. Also, the writing style makes it very easy to read.

    I am just a housewife and confess I don't always understand these things. This was way easy to understand. Maybe too simple in its appraoch. Not worth the price tag. I finiashed it without the practical tools I was promised to carry away with it. A few anecdotes to try and make the author look knowledgable but I was left unimpressed for whatever that is worth. My used copy is for sale - very cheap.

              This book deals with the pressures and problems of a teenage girl. It kept me interested throughout the whole book. In the end it shows that God was the person that she looked for answers to her problems. Great book!

              Women not only rule the roost, they control its purse strings. In an economy 75% driven by individual consumer spending, women make decisions that affect 88% of all purchases and control almost half of all the households with assets of more than $500,000. The results of marketing research data show, in staggering and unequivocal terms, that women are the dominant demographic and financial engine behind the U.S. economy. The first half of author Bernice Kanner's book focuses on women's impact on various industries. The book's second half notes failed campaigns and explains what kind of marketing appeals to women. Despite its overwhelming reliance on marketing data, this book suffers from mixing the differences and similarities between the genders. At times the distinctions are clear, but often the differences get blurred. This extremely informative book would have benefited from tighter editing to make it less jumbled. Still, we think marketing and advertising executives can use this book to avoid chauvinist marketing pitfalls, adjust to changing demographics and more effectively draw female consumers to their clients' products.

                  By 1300, medieval men and women were beginning to measure multitude, counting, for example, numbers of boys and girls being baptized. Their mental capacity to grapple with population, to get its measure, was developing and this book describes how medieval people thought about population through both the texts which contained their thought and the medieval realities which shaped it. They found many topics, such as the history of population and variations between polygamy, monogamy and virginity, through theology. Crusade and travel literature supplied the themes of Muslim polygamy, military numbers, the colonization of the Holy Land,and the populations of Mongolia and China. Translations of Aristotle provided not only new themes but also a new vocabulary with which to think about population. In this innovative new study Peter Biller challenges the view that medieval thought was fundamentally abstract. He investigates medieval thought's capacity to deal with concrete contemporary realities, and sets academic discussions of population alongside the medieval facts of 'birth, and copulation, and death'.

                        I am a professional ecologist and spend at least 100 days a year in the field characterizing vegetation communities and plant species. It is difficult to tell which part of the country this book would be best suited for, as it would be considered incomplete in the areas I have used it in (Northern and Southern Rockies, Black Hills, Intermountain West and Northern Great Plains). I found it's treatment of rushes especially wanting. This book has made it to the field with me only a few times and was seldom used then. The most redeeming quality of this book is it's size, which can easily fit into a back pocket, but when it's taken out you will probably not be able to key the more difficult and uncommon graminiods found in the U.S.

                        I have owned this book for 10 years. I think it is a great little book! It is easy to bring in the field and it covers most species I encounter in the northeast. The plates and descriptions are not always on the same pages so you have to make sure you are referencing to the correct plate number and it does not illustrate all plants listed. You need to have the fruit of the plant to use this reference.

                        This book travels well and with the index dog-eared makes for quick and dirty referencing (espeically of Fam Graminae).
                        But I found a few of the plates, although well illustrated, confusing (i.e. determining the key number associated with the image of a particular flowering head). If you are looking for a thorough reference for Genus Carex don't look here.

                              Paul Harris takes a pragmatic writing approach to explain how to use MS-Project. His book "Planning & Scheduling Using Microsoft Project 2000" can be used as a reference manual, as a learn-it-on-your-own guide, and as an instructor-led training book. He has Americanized the text and all workshop exercises (although I liked the Australian flavor in his prior books on SureTrak and P3).

                              PSUMP2000 is an extensive work. Packed with oodles of "how-to"s, tips, and warnings, Harris explains the basic and intermediate functions of using MSP, covers a majority of the functions that are available, and adds complexity gradually as the users work their way through the book's 27 detailed chapters of content and reference information. He takes some pretty complicated topics like "how duration, work, resources, and units trade-off with each other" and makes it seem like anybody can learn to use the software. In following of Microsoft's typical style, the software has many different ways to reach a single result. Harris does a good job of pointing these various approaches out to the reader.

                              One of the nice things about Harris books is that they are functionally organized, not by menu item. So, if you are using the book as a reference manual or help guide, it's easy to find a particular topic since you don't have to know what menu it's called up from-you just need to know the subject that you are looking for. He also provides a list of menus and related sub-menus at the beginning of most chapters for people who cannot remember how to find a particular function.

                              Admittedly, he did not cover every possible subject on the software or the book would be too voluminous. Intended a basic and intermediate guide on the software, the subjects of inserting hyperlinks, drawings, and workgroups; use of Microsoft's Project Central; resource leveling; Visual Basic macros; how to utilize the customizable fields; and the linking of multiple projects are not covered, but these could be addressed in a future Advanced Features supplementary volume at a later date. An appendix with a Glossary of Terms would be a nice addition. The MSP2000 software package, however, provides a decent glossary.

                              Having used his books for several years as training manuals for my scheduling classes, I see how effective the workshop exercises are in giving students an opportunity to practice the lessons taught by the immediately preceding text-the only way to really learn complicated software applications. The solutions to the problems may be downloaded at no cost from The Eastwood Harris website.

                                          I was required to have this book for a GUID 5 "College Success Skills" class. If that's why you're looking at it, then you don't have much of a choice. Otherwise, look somewhere else. I've found it nearly worthless at helping me adjust to college--all it seems to do is tell me what I already know (it points out what you need to "work on" in your life but gives you no suggestions on where to begin working). I'm surprised that the review says that it doesn't talk down to students--I think that's exactly what it does. It relies heavily on statistical stereotypes, and dispenses little practical advice. It seems as though anything they say that actually APPLIES to a person's real life, that person would most likely already know.

                                                Lacity and Hirschheim's outsourcing chapter really stands out. The chapter on structuration theory is terrible, but that's because structuration theory itself is terrible.
