In 1971, when General Telephone and Electric relocated its GTE Lenkurt plant to Albuquerque, New Mexico, the city fathers were elated. GTE Lenkurt became the largest manufacturing employer in the state. The modern exterior of the plant and the "clean" reputation of the industry, however, effectively camouflaged conditions on the shop floor where unskilled assemblers, mostly minority women, used solder, epoxy, solvents, acids, plastics, and other toxic chemicals to assemble the solid state devices inside electronic components. The numerous deaths and virtual plague of physical disorders that resulted from these working conditions convinced attorney Josephine DeLeon Rohr to initiate the largest occupational disease and disablement trial in New Mexican history. In this compelling exposé, Steve Fox presents the sole public record of six years of legal and medical investigation into the lives of these workers. Their devastating testimony as well as the personal and professional risk incurred by Rohr documents the tragic legacy of the electronics industry.

Rohr's meticulous investigation uncovered more than two hundred GTE workers (95% of them women, 70% of them Hispanic), each of whom had a strange array of health problems. The list included cancers, frequent miscarriages, excessive menstrual bleeding and hysterectomies, bizarre skin disorders, and odd neurological problems. Fox describes the dramatic events leading up to and the settlement of the case and shows how an ill wind can blow through the clean corridors of the high-tech workplace.

With terrorism being the current excuse to freeze accounts of people who later turn out to be innocent, offshore asset protection becomes important to everyone - and perhaps more so if you are an immigrant with significant assets and living in the U.S.

What I really liked about this book was that it was direct and practical - and the publisher even provided a free offshore trust with an offshore brokerage account included. I didn't have to spend lots of time trying to pursue generic advice.

An important book to protect yourself from current trends.......2001-05-06

The developed countries continue to chip away at the individual's privacy. Using the usual guise of "money laundering," the OECD and FATF have attempted to blackmail foreign banks and tax havens into cooperating with their tax collecting agenda. At the expense of personal privacy, they will implement the one world society. Their initiative has been launched and will continue in the months ahead.

Adam Starchild's book is one of the best ways to personally escape rather than fight this trend.

Reasons for Asset Protection.......2000-11-22

Many people who elect to become structured offshore do so because they feel persecuted by government, claim-minded litigants, and even investigative journalists. Often it is less an election than a matter of simple survival. In spite of assurances of fair trials and opportunities to be heard, assets are at risk if they remain in your home country or if you remain within the range of the agencies or individuals that would attack you. The natural law of envy provides that the greater your success, the greater the likelihood that you will become a target for several character types, each with a different agenda but all proximately motivated by the natural law. That is, the means and immediate goals of attackers may take different forms but at root, each is driven by the natural law of envy.

Unfortunately, it is impossible for anyone, including us, to live in this world without confronting such ugliness in some form or another. Cloaked in a thousand forms of self-righteous crusading and victim restitution, all efforts share a common goal of taking away your assets. For example, armies of IRS bureaucrats, working 40 hours a week in positions with little hope of advancement, are paid to audit you and simply cannot help but enjoy the prospect of acquainting you with financial adversity. They may not personally realize economic benefit from their work, but their gratification derives from knowing that at least you will not enjoy your former wealth.

Establishing a trust is often a useful method of centralizing control of your assets during your lifetime. You may wish to establish a trust for your heirs or for your own benefit. The method you select to pass your assets on to your heirs can make all the difference in your tax position.

Trusts are a means both of reducing tax liability and of simplifying inheritance. For those not familiar with the concept, a trust or a settlement, as it is sometimes known, may be defined as a document made between a person desiring to create a trust (settlor) and one or more persons or corporations willing to act as a trustee (the trustee) in which certain assets or property (the trust fund) are declared to be held for the benefit of certain third parties (the beneficiaries).

The procedure to establish an international trust is relatively easy.

Protect Yourself From Prying Eyes.......2000-05-20

Gee, I gotta say that I disagree with the other reviewers. I was expecting a LOT more from this book. Most of what I read is available for free on the web. That left about 4 pages that I could use. ( I'm glad for those 4 pages. ) But 218 pages of double spaced typeweritten text could probably be condsensed to 50 pages in regular type, subtract 30% fluff and filler (like personal recommendations for alternatives to trusts) leaves a very quick read. One afternoon should do it. I think its WAY overpriced. I don't need the 'free' newsletter, or the 'free' trust thats included. Caution is advised.

Best thing I've read this year.......2005-03-20

Richard Morgan's booklist at the end of his SF romance, "Market Forces", got me reading this. To him, thanks for the goto. To you, I recommend both works.

Although the original edition of "Lugano Report" is six years old, I've not read anything this year that is more relevant to the situation in the USA in 2005. Nor could I have voiced my own opinion of that situation any better than George does in her introduction to the 2003 edition:

"I can think of only one historical parallel to the demented band of entrepreneurial thugs who have taken over in Washington, which is, of course, Hitler and the Nazis. In this book, distinctions are made between their kind of fascism and the 'Lugano'-type scenario now unfolding. If the latter succeeds, it will be a fascist regime minus the concentration camps and gas chambers but including the rule of mega-corporations; a pseudo-religious, all-embracing ideology drummed into the populace by a compliant media; mass surveillance; and a master race disposing as it pleases, through military force, economic coercion or cultural bribery, of the lesser, darker-skinned and infidel breeds, as well as the dissidents within its own ranks."

Shockingly Real.......2002-05-17

This document, more that a "report" is a cold blood, cynical guide to enslave, decimate and exterminate the surplus or the human population using methods as birth control, contagious diseases, political, religious and ethnic conflicts and wars, famines, low salaries, etc. This "report" that may be see for many people as a science fiction novel or a Malthus write is a nowaday reality. If we pay attention to everyday news, we could see that most of the formulas mentioned in this "report" have being applied around the world in a systematic way as isolated cases successfully with none or few opposition by the victims. I strongly recommend this book to those people that in some way or another can do something to stop this systematic plan already running.

A frightening look at the logic of capitalism........2000-03-20

Susan George uses her impressize knowledge of global capitalism to and its effects on the many to look at the picture from the side of the few. The report presents a frightening look at what would be required to preserve the current capitalist order in the face of the increasing impoveritization of an increasingly populous and ecologically strained world.

The report was originally written as a hoax (she was not going to claim authorship), however, for reasons she declines to elaborate on she chose not go through with it. I actually wish she had released it as real, to see the reaction of the elite pundits and media who will now feel secure in ignoring the book.

This book contains very useful information on bid preparation; however, you still need to have a number of additional resources on tendering to compliment your knowledge base, including a good set of "market proven" sample tender documents and their corresponding proposals.
