In this book, one of Germany's most influential economists describes his country's economy, the largest in the European Union and the third largest in the world, and analyzes its weaknesses: poor GDP growth performance, high unemployment due to a malfunctioning labor market, and an unsustainable social security system. Horst Siebert spells out the reforms necessary to overcome these shortcomings. Taking a broader view than other recent books on the German economy, he considers Germany's fiscal policy stance, product market regulation, capital market, environmental policy, aging and immigration policies, and its system for human capital formation as well as Germany's role in the European Union, including the euro zone.

Germany's system of economic governance emerges as a common theme as Siebert examines why this onetime economic powerhouse is today a faltering giant. He argues that what Germany needs, above all, is a market renaissance; that it must throw off the shackles of its social welfare economy and of its hallmark consensus approach, whereby group-based cooperative decision-making has undermined competition and markets. In doing so he examines both the country's social security system and its labor market, including trade unions. His focus throughout is on Germany's present concerns, foreseeable future problems, and long-term policy issues.

We recommend this excellent, comprehensive and straightforward book, which clearly sets out the author's diagnosis and prescription for the German economy: reform its approaches to education, social equity, subsidies, trade and more. Horst Siebert traces the roots of Germany's problems to the student movements of the '60s with their emphasis on collectivism and hedonism. He provides a detailed, highly readable account of German economic history. He covers the great recovery and prosperity that followed Ludwig Erhard's reforms of 1948 and the lagging growth that seemed to begin with the oil shocks and recessions of the 1970s and 1980s, but that has roots far deeper than oil. Siebert says, Germany's problems have no win-win solution. Some interest groups must lose if Germany is to restore economic growth and leave subsequent generations more than the invoice for today's excesses.

This book is really for those who are in the beginning stages of *thinking* about getting into mystery shopping and covers the barest of basics. It does include the information for many companies so that one can immediately start filling out applications, but all this information can be found on the MSPA and [...].

When I purchased this book, I bought it in the hopes that it would be more of an actual 'manual'. I was looking for guidance about the verbiage that companies want used in their reports. If that is also what you are looking for, pass on this book as it does not really address this much needed information.

It also appears by the number of pages that the book is loaded with information, but the font is so big that the number of pages is very deceiving (roughly 3 pages of this book would equal 1 page in a regular book.)

Not to slam the book - it is a good read for someone thinking about getting into mystery shopping, but not for anyone that's done any mystery shopping already.

Have just started reading the Mystery Shopper's Manual, but I believe it is a good resource and reference book. It would be a very good book for anyone interested in becoming a mystery shopper.

Mystery shopping not a mystery after reading this book........2006-07-13

As a new mystery shopper, I was looking for a How To Book that would tell me what I needed to know in a concise manner and give me some tips on how to start mystery shopping.

She delivered. The book is full of insider tips that were well worth the cost of the big. She is informative as well as entertaining. It is the type of book that you can use as a reference book over and over again.

She obviously is an expert and that shows. She also warns about some of the pitfalls that might entice a new mystery shopper. This is a must for anyone just starting or someone who needs a refresher.

This book was a real delight.

The textile and clothing industry is a major contributor to the Thai economy. It is the largest manufacturing industry and, with more than 1 mn employees, it accounts for around 20% of total manufacturing employment. It is also the country’s second leading export industry, after electrical goods and equipment, with annual exports worth more than US$6 bn. Garment exports account for almost 55% of this total. The biggest export market is the USA, which takes slightly more than a third of all Thai textile and garment exports, and over half of all garment exports. Next in importance is the EU, followed by Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), East Asia, Japan and the Middle East. The textile industry is divided into five sub-sectors: fibre production; spinning; woven and knitted fabrics; bleaching, dyeing, printing and finishing; and clothing. These industries are linked and form an integrated whole. The industry is having to face up to the challenge of rising production and labour costs and greater outside competition, particularly from China. Further investment is needed in new machinery and techniques. The government recognises the importance of the industry and is putting measures into place to assist it. The industry is also expected to benefit substantially from a number of free trade agreements, following the elimination of quotas at the end of 2004.
