Book Description
A fresh investment approach to an ever-changing market
In this unique and engaging treatise on the art and science of speculation, expert S. A. Johnston combines the profitable elements of banking, bookmaking, and gambling-three other ways of making money with money-with trading, to provide readers with a fresh new approach to trading the market. Written by a trader for a trader,
Trading Options to Win gives readers a framework for using logical analysis to uncover profitable opportunities that they would otherwise miss. Johnston develops a speculative method that traders can use to consistently find and manage profitable trades. He then backs his talk up by detailing three months worth of trades using his successful method. For investors looking to move beyond the realms of technical and fundamental analysis, Trading Options will be the guide of choice.
S. A. Johnston is a systems analyst and designer by profession. His company, Software Systems, specializes in inventory optimization and control systems for business. Under the tutelage of Fredric B. Fitch and Richmond Thomason, he became the first graduate of Yale to receive a BA in logic.
Customer Reviews:
trading options to win.......2007-03-15
gives real trades, real numbers. this is a genuine how to book.
Writing Futures Options Strategies.......2006-05-03
This book is focused on selling options on futures. It is an excellent dissertation on risk control and profit expectancy, and is loaded with practical advice. This book assumes you have a basic idea of what a future's contract is. I recommend this book highly for anyone who wants practical advice and strategies for gaining a statistical edge in the marketplace which options afford.
Tons of very useful info and fun to read.......2004-09-23
Don't know what book Edward Lovette read, but it's pretty clear he didn't read the entire book. This is an exceptional book and anyone who trades options would be taking the short end of the bet by missing it. Johnston makes his points easily, clearly, practically, and (unusual for a book on options, which are usually dry as dust) it's very entertaining. Mainly, and again this is rare or nonexistent in the options books I've read, Johnston presents the background and the reasoning behind the trading strategies he's talking about and shows the WHY of making profits in the markets and not just the what and the how. The strategies themselves are pretty interesting. Everybody knows about straddles and strangles, but how about a "Martian ratio-spread" or a "WOOM non-seasonal?" I've traded options for a long time and read a lot of books on options, yet I never even heard of these strategies, so there's a lot of originality in this book, too. Any options trader will get a lot of good fresh ideas from "Trading Options To Win." I just wish it had been longer, but it's 5 stars anyway.
A Rare Find for the Option Writer.......2004-06-04
First, the problems. He takes awhile to get to his point. You need to get past his cute phrases and chatty style. Second, I use chapter and section headings to help me through a book. His headings a worse than useless. For example, one chapter heading is "Just the Facts, Ma'am".
Getting past all of that, I found my efforts well rewarded. He truly comes up with very original insights into trading. He examines risk from a unique perspective. His ideas on option writing cannot be found in any other book I have seen.
For example, most traders use seasonality to find market trends. His chapter on using seasonality to predict non-trending, choppy markets (important for the option writer) is truly a classic. He sees, smells, and thinks about how the option writer can make money in the markets, and I have found no other book with such real world trading ideas.
If you sell options, this is a must read.
Major Disappointment.......2004-05-17
The high reviews inspired me to purchase this book...but the contents are very general and the title consequently is very misleading...it doesn't teach anything about trading techniques...it's almost exclusively a book about trading psychology.

Delightful guide to the delicious mom-and-pop cafes in Northern Italy.(1995)
Customer Reviews:
Northern Italy: A Taste of Trattoria.......2006-11-10
I love this book, it's the best travel book to find where the locals go to eat. And, when you aren't traveling you can almost smell and feel the different trattorias by reading the vingettes about each one. I've given this book as gifts to several people traveling in Italy and they have all found it fun to follow the maps and find an out-of-the-way place with great food. Once in Venice the cook saw the book and was so happy he showed it to everyone in the place and gave us more of their house wine -- not something that happens on the normal tourist route.
DELICIOUS!.......2000-10-29
I just returned from a 2-week trip to Italy, and this book pointed us to at least 6 unforgettable meals that we would have otherwise missed. A charming guide.

Who couldn't use more abundance in their life?.......2005-08-18
I found this book helpful, fun to use, and easy to understand. After reading a few other books on feng shui, I definitely found this one to be more user friendly, without getting too involved or too complicated. And seriously folks, who couldn't use more abundance in their lives?.......
For Beginners & Masters.......2003-07-29
This book was an excellent guide to the basics, plus gave many Action Steps that put those lessons to use. It really helps with every-day challenges like: how to become more creative, the different personna's people embody when they try to manage money, the meaning and uses of water, etc. If you're a financial professional who deals with clients, or somebody who thinks they should be able to save more of the money they make, this is the perfect book for you.
A NEWCOMER'S TRIP THROUGH FENG SHUI.......2002-02-24
Having read a few books on Feng Shui and still lacking clarity on this complex subject I find Suzan Hilton's book to be refreshing, It is easy to follow and the activity sections at the end of each chapter are very helpful in the learning process. Suzan has a way of taking all the parts of the whole and putting them into one compact package. This is helpful in making Feng Shui a total part of your life. I have not found a book yet that demystifies Feng Shui and give practical applications for every day living until I read THE FENG SHUI OF ABUNDANCE. I highly recommend it to those who are just starting to work with Feng Shui and those who are experts and would desire a different way of looking at this fascinating subject. That about sums it up. A fascinating book for a fascinating subject.
First Enron, Now Fascism.......2002-02-19
There are many types of Feng Shui available to practice and study in this country. A particular philosophy may work well for one person and another person may have difficulty. The biggest problem is Feng Shui fascists who declare what is Feng Shui and what is not. If you are interested in learning more about possible ways to increase wealth opportunities in your life, then this book may be helpful to you. If you prefer rigid mathematical problem solving to using your intuition, then perhaps this is not the book for you.

Easy read and great primer for women.......2004-02-17
This was not my first financial book--and I still enjoyed it! It's the kind of book that you can pick up to read at any point (read one chapter or section) and get a lot out of it. I gave it to my younger sister as a must-read. The title resonated with me because as most women, I love to shop. So it became clear to me that I had to re-think my splurges. A year after reading this book I bought my first home!
Bravo! A Book Written to Be Read and Enjoyed About Money.......1999-03-28
What a treat to Find a book that talks in English and Understands how to communicate important issues. I've bought this book for friends, and family as gifts and each and everyone has loved it. Michaels has a flair for speaking in such a personal way that I felt like we were sitting at the kitchen table together.....
Fascinating and intimate look at money & finance!.......1997-11-25
Ms. Michaels superbly combines money management, relationships, and practical advice in this hard to set down financial advisor. (I read it in one sitting). Who would have thought a book on finance could be so interesting! While the author caught me with her witty title, she captivated me with her personal stories. Her fascinating characters walk the reader through real life experiences -- consequences of financial decisions -- the good, the bad & the not so pretty. In the process, the reader accomplishes a self-discovery of the intimate relationship she has with money & spending. After a year of plowing through half a dozen books on finance, (some of us need more help than others), it was most refreshing to find an author who brings together vital information and engaging personal history in such a pleasurable format. I will definitely be on the look-out for more titles from Ms. Michaels.

Book Description
This book provides a varied collection of recent research relating to small businesses in tourism. In doing so it reflects the eclecticism of interest and method associated with this under-researched and under-theorised area of investigation. Topics range from the potential contribution of small firms to achieving social or economic goals to understanding more about business performance and growth. As is common in tourism research, disciplinary boundaries are routinely transgressed in the interests of gaining greater illumination. Insights from a variety of countries are offered, sometimes as a result of trans-national collaboration initiated specifically for this book.
Shows the eclecticism of interest and method associated with this under-researched and under-theorised area
Book Description
In the absence of innovation in the field of conservation finance, a daunting funding gap faces conservationists aiming to protect America's system of landscapes that provide sustainable resources, water, wildlife habitat, and recreational amenities. Experts estimate that the average annual funding gap will be between $1.9 billion and $7.7 billion over the next forty years. Can the conservation community come up with new methods for financing that will fill this enormous gap? Which human and financial resources will allow us to fund critical land conservation needs?
From Walden to Wall Street brings together the experience of more than a dozen pioneering conservation finance practitioners to address these crucial issues. Contributors present groundbreaking ideas including mainstreaming environmental markets; government ballot measures for land conservations; convertible tax-exempt financing; and private equity markets.
The creativity and insight of From Walden to Wall Street offers considerable hope that, even in this era of widespread financial constraints, the American conservation community's financial resources may potentially grow dramatically in both quantity and quality in the decades to come.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting Techniques for Conservation Professionals.......2005-11-04
As a conservation finance professional, I navigate and package financing options for land and water protection interests on a daily basis.
This book has stretched my thinking and added many techniques to the list of possibilities - it also focuses on the private market - the business - of land conservation.
Population growth and development further drive efforts to hold on to our natural and cultural identity. This book goes a long way in strengthening those efforts.
In addition, the editor blends history and financing techniques in an interesting and insightful manner.
From Walden to Wall Street: Frontiers of Conservation Finance.......2005-11-03
A premise of this useful and provocative new book is that, as important as the achievements of land conservationists have been over a century or more (from Yosemite to the local bike path), much more land needs protection if we're ultimately going to "save the planet" (or something short of that). Further, editor Jim Levitt and his varied contributors know that today's political economy has changed dramatically, that the flow of capital, the power of markets, and the availability of new financial instruments have created whole new opportunities for those pragmatists and visionaries who "love the land" and want to protect it.
While the historical sweep of From Walden to Wall Street (extending from the Boston Common in the 1630s to Theodore Roosevelt and beyond) is fascinating, it is only the beginning. This is not just that usual tales of great wide open spaces courageous protected from rapacious developers. (Who could object to that?) Rather, this small volume serves as both inspiration and -- more importantly -- a road map to some of the new pathways to financing the protection of special natural and cultural lands in the 21 century.
Levitt, himself a former private sector management consultant, and his co-authors provide examples of and guidance on the most important emerging land conservation techniques. They offer an array of new perspectives - from a World Bank veteran, a corporate forester, and nonprofit entrepreneurs, among others - on the new world of land protection in America: innovative transactions that will utilize resolving loans, tax credits, limited development, carbon sequestration credits, and conservation banking.
I suspect that the leaders in land conservation - today and in the years to come - will know this important addition to the conservation literature.

Customer Reviews:
Much Better Out There.......2004-06-06
I got this book mainly because the second edition was published in 2004 so I thought it would have the most up-to-date information on cover letter writing. Out of this whole book, only essentially the first 15 pages address how to write a cover letter--and this they do poorly. The main advice they give repeatedly is to include in your cover letter those skills and experience that match what your potential employer is looking for. Good advice, but they don't really tell you how to do this without making your cover letter merely a smaller version of your resume. I was really dissappointed with this book and would recommend other sources, even if they are perhaps a bit older.

Book Description
Organization Behaviour for Leisure Services discusses and questions a number of key elements, including:
* The individual and the organization
* Groups in the organization
* Organizational structures and behaviour
* Management within the organization
* Commercial hospitality, leisure and tourism in a service context

Customer Reviews:
For anyone who wants to be a travel agent in the UK.......1998-08-11
Book seems okay; however it is written for someone who wants to be employed for a travel agency; not for the agency. I was looking for a book to help describe the practice within an agency (back office management, business practices, etc.).
