A Great Read that Needs a long attention span!.......2003-02-23

I agree to the previous comments about this book being hard to read, and it is indeed for scholars, hence the price!

I wouldn't go so far as calling myself a scholar, but I am certainly "in" on the subject of the book, and enjoy the arguments presented, especially ones by Gunder Frank/Gills and Chase-Dunn. For those who might find it hard to read and comprehend, you can start by reading basic theories that founded this book, works like The Colonizers Model of the World from Late James Blaut or ReOrient of Gunder Frank (although that is not easy to read either, but Frank has a great treasury of vocabulary!). Even reading Fernand Braudel's History of Civilization might help, although he is still out there in the realm of Eurocentrism for this book.

Good content, hard to read.......2001-11-25

I like reading history. I enjoy with it. I am not a professional historian.

In the last few years I have tried and read books offering a broad scope and general overviews of history (you may well say that globalization has reached history too).

I daresay that the technical content of this book is excellent. But unless you really like the technical side of global history do no read it. It is written by scholars for scholars. I have rated three stars, taken into account that, because of its content, I should rate it five stars, but if I think of its readability, it would be one [there are exceptions: after all, it is written by 18 different persons-]. As they explain "this volume is designed as a fundamental starting point for the transdisciplinary study of continuity and change in the global social, economic, and political system over the longest of historical term"; and "these papers were originally presented at a special conference that took place in 1995 at the University of lund in Sweden. They were subsequently refined in light of the interaction made possible by that meeting".

Which books would I recommend then you to read? Well, that, of course, depends so much on each person's tastes! Kindly let me reccommend a few ones: "The Rise of the West" by William H. McNeill, "Origins of the state and civilization", by Elman R. Service, "The Great Divergence", by Kenneth Pomeranz, "The dynamics of Global Dominance. European overseas empires 1415-1980", and, above all, "The History of Government", by S.E. Finer.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.......2006-07-09

Good - tells you how to show for credit by being professional, researching and asking the right questions and starting at the local level.

Bad - Incorrect material. 1- The FTC can represent an individual consumer in litigation. 2- Credit bureaus are not obligated to honor a consumer's request to be removed from pre-approved lists. 3 - credit bureaus score credit files. 4 - Removal of a tax lien cannot be reinserted. 5 - Bounced checks do not appear on credit reports. All of this is wrong and the list goes on. Too many errors to list here.

Ugly - the book accuses credit repair companies of taking advantage of consumers ignorance but this book is also advancing at the expense of consumers lack of understanding or knowledge by providing erroneous information to the masses.

More time should have been spent researching the facts.

This book was THE reason I was able to successfuly challenge false information on my credit report and repair my credit. Very easy to read and packed full of tips and sample letters.

Great Author!.......2002-03-25

This is the third book by Arnold S. Goldstein I have purchased. This book is labeled EZ for a reason, the content is very easy to understand. I would recommend his older book The Guarenteed Credit guide also as it has a little more indepth content.

I am always searching for ways to improve myself. Ms. Cassidy really has develop a system that can be utilized not only today but tomorrow and whenever. It is easy and fun to do, but more importantly the content can really probe into who you are and what you can be! The book deals with positive aspects of our character and properly places the negative or dark side in its proper perspective. I enjoyed each chapter, especially for example, the first chapter which deals with writing our own epitaph.( She truly has a funny bone!) As you continue on this adventure, you will find that each chapter helps you deal with the large wall that you keep blaming is in the way. There are truly no walls when you finish this book. It is a keepsake that goes on and on, to be used whenever the need arises. It's always complimenting the human spirit and reminding us that we are always in search for our passion, most of all the Discovery of It! .
